I think yes. Before Dongyi era, a concubine can become queen. This is the reason Jang Ok Jung was able to become queen after Queen Inhyeon was exiled. But after all the concubine drama in Dongyi, the king set a new rule that a concubine can never be queen. I think this is the reason why Yi San's stepgrandma is very young, after Yeongjo's first queen died, they can't choose a queen from the other concubines including Yisan's grandma (I don't know if Yi San's concubine grandma died first before Yeongjo's first queen though) thus they had a selection for a new queen. Of course, they wanted a young virgin woman for a new woman for the King, hence Yeongjo's second queen/Yi San's stepgrandma being young.
I love this drama since the beginning, but the last few minutes of episode 15 just hits differently. I've rewatched it so many times. Lee Se Young and Lee Jun Ho are both great actors.
I wanna watch..but i feel the tragic ending..besides, i got annoyed when the ML has more than 1 wife/woman..i…
While kings usually are free to have as many concubines as they want, they usually don't love those concubines. As portrayed even here in The Red Sleeve, some of the concubines were not even chosen by the king themselves. Some kings have concubines to ensure that there is an heir to the throne. When watching historical dramas, I usually don't judge the character relationships based on modern lenses but based on the kind of relationships people have during the past.
this is extremely high for mydramalist so in comparison to other shows, I think it is well deserved. Best historical…
I don't take the ratings for dramas aired before 2016 seriously. I mean Painter of the Wind's rating is only around 7 when for me it is one of the best historical dramas (very unique lovelines too).
If your favorite part of this drama is the couple's chemistry plus a plot with no unnecessary scenes, The Red Sleeve will indeed be something enjoyable to watch. Bonus Jang Hee Jin (male lead's sister here) is also in Red Sleeve as Queen Dowager. Be warned that it's a historical drama, not a modern one (but then again if you're a fan of the leads of this drama you should have seen at least 1 or 2 historical drama since the leads here are best known for doing that genre)

Considering how good this is, I think the rating is low. I was expecting something like 9.1 or 9.2 (Flower of Evil rating). This 8.8 rating would have been acceptable if this drama is older (as I noticed older dramas tend to be rated lower).
I think the reasoning for her constant rejection will make more sense when they show the change her life is about…
I think this is what more of the viewers should realize. Deok Im accepting San also shows how much she loves him since she's giving up her equal relationships with the people she's known her whole life. This shows how much she loves him just as much San loves her by waiting for her for many years.

Yup, I think she loves her friends so much, that's one of the reasons she wasn't accepting him before. I remember one episode after she rejected him she gladly joined her friends when they were reading a fun book together (though a tear falling from her eye suggests how she was truly conflicted with her decison).
The push and pull, Deok Im being ahead of her time, King and Deok Im's unequal positions, the loveless marriages (concubines), this drama sometimes feels like Pride and Prejudice (the Jane Austen novel) to me.
These 2 are the 3rd couple i want to see together again... But kdramas rarely repeat the pairing...
That's because Hyun Bin and Ye Jin's first collaboration has no romance in them. In fact their characters only see each other in monitor except maybe the last scene. Same thing with Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won, they were only coworkers in their first collab together. That's why these two couples were able to reunite in 3 years or less.
This show's love triangle is not like other shows: -> King and Deok Im loves each other -> Deok Ro/Hong Guk Young mentiones of him having king's heart but suggested Deok Im to run away with him. (I feel like he somehow has a crush on both leads at one point).
Yi San (2007) is basically about the same characters (except the female lead's name is Song Yeon but she's also…
I havent watched 6fd except a few clips so I cant compare. I cant exactly remember, but I think it’s more like Dongyi but has bit more on politics and less concubine drama (writer and director of both yisan and dongyi are the same).
