I'm thinking of dropping it.
does it bothers you to look at the drink aside you? :) this kdrama will push some buttons, ESPECIALLY if you think it is really bad that she drinks :) and then start connecting the dots to your own situation..

The ratings drastically dropped! Now, should I start watching or not..?
Everyone who drinks will be offended by this kdrama ... it is asking them to look within. And the k society encourages drinking and there is so much $$$$$$ that alcohol companies make.... so .... this is a tough cookie kdrama :)

The point is that there are SO MANY functional alcoholics... you are right, her teeth and skin would not look great even if she is a functional alcoholic, BUT she COULD function...

Nope..... Functional alcoholics are actually quite common

Not necessarily... THERE ARE SO MANY FUNCTIONAL ALCOHOLICS who go to work every day.... and get plastered at night... then get up and go to work again. Construction workers are often in this category, and also various self employed businessmen, esp those who smooze with clients (insurance agents, real estate agents, salespeople, etc.) Also, MOTHERS AND HOUSEWIVES are often in this category.... Check out some opening scenes in kdrama Five Enough....

Why do FLs in the kdramas who are little quirky, clumsy will have such a weird hair do (*ahem* cheese in the trap).....…
it is sexism. FL is always a rash reactive loser, a little child who needs a sugar daddy to take care of her. It promotes the idea that women are dumb irrational dependent losers who require a man to lead them

What has happened to tvN dramas? Why have they become so average or below average suddenly? "My Dearest Nemesis"…
well... my dearest nemesis is also a social change drama about accepting adults doing "kids stuff".... potato lab is also about social change and corporate change.... divorce insurance is about social change regarding dating and marriage... "love your enemy" was cheesy and plotless :) Second shot at love is a MAJOR social commentary and a call for change... So... PLEASE BE A LITTLE BIT MORE HELPFUL to them to produce better and more dramas like that

I think it is good they are bashing her :) Because how we have it out in the open that this is bad stuff... So ... they need to start bashing her father too :) That is where we are going with this :)

I think using the female lead here to discuss the alcoholism in k society is a good use of sexism :) they are addressing the subject in a way that the society is more willing to hear :) I think a male drunkard lead would turn people off, they would start defending his drinking as socially acceptable. So having a drunken FL is an easier way to introduce the subject :) SO IT IS OK IF THEY BASH HER. EVENTUALLY SOMEONE WILL CONNECT THE DOTS THAT ALCOHOLISM IS NOT OK EVEN FOR MEN

There are MANY women who drink secretly, esp mothers, housewives, business women, single women and even elderly. Just do some research.... Because of sexism and societal shaming, an alcoholic women will NOT complain of this kdrama.
Male drinkers will brush this drama off as not important, because of societal approval of their drinking. Since FL is auto mechanic, she is poisoned by chemicals and fumes already and thus more prone to drinking and liver damage

I think using the female lead here to discuss the alcoholism in k society and also having the ML as someone who already left alcohol is a good use of sexism :) bc they are addressing the subject in a way that the society is more willing to hear :) I think a male drunkard lead would turn people off, they would start defending his drinking as socially acceptable. So having a drunken FL is an easier way to introduce the subject :) gently :)

this kdrama will push some buttons, ESPECIALLY if the viewer thinks it is really bad that FL drinks :) and then the viewer hopefully will start connecting the dots to their own drinking situation.... whoever is the slave to alcohol, is gonna give low reviews :) BUT HOPEFULLY KEEP WATCHING.

The audience can hate the FL as much as they want :) this is a great use of sexism :) Blaming a woman for drinking will hopefully cause people to start looking at the drinking of their wives, sisters, daughters, mothers, relatives, friends, themselves LOL etc and then to start looking at the men who drink - themselves included - and then some societal change will happen to produce a better healthier nation ... that's where this is going, imo.

This drama *is* about a deep societal issue because everyone says that alcohol is out of control in Korea..... Traditionally, men are expected to drink, and to this date, that is required for business.... So many alcohol companies make huge $$$$$..... do you see all those ads on kdramas, we all know how to mix soju and beer.... now kdramas advertise whiskey too.... and whiskey is super strong and has no nutrition, like makgeouli or beer..... so .... people drinking that will cause a lot of problems... AND do you see even in kdramas, so many characters complain of fat liver after doing so many business dinners.... SO BASICALLY KOREA'S MEDICAL SYSTEM WILL BE OVERWHELMED WITH SICK PEOPLE .... esp older men who spent a lifetime at business meetings with alcohol....

so touching this subject is like touching a sacred cow.... !!!!!! and a MAJOR health epidemics in Korea, ** the women and young child bearing age women are affected now *** that is a serious serious issue for the country.

So this sensitive minefield topic has to be discussed since alcohol is now affecting women too, and the birth rates in Korea are already low, plus ... you dont want sick citizens.... So yeah it is EASIER to tackle the subject by having a female character who is a drunk trying to heal, because the society will be more willing to watch a drunk woman being blamed for alcoholism then to watch a guy in the main role as an alcoholic trying to rehab.

One of the issues is that historically the society EXPECTS men to drink heavily. So we cannot talk about men being addicted to alcohol YET :) it is too big of a topic It is easier to talk about an alcoholic woman...

Also another issue is Asian high density of living quarters, causing the need to KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND BE "NICE" so people are not used to discussing heavy issues and resolving them by conversation and inner work... they use alcohol to medicate themselves and to get into the mood for more honest conversation.

So this kdrama addresses THAT HUGE SOCIETAL ISSUE of how to communicate clearly, honestly, fairly, and productively...

And yeah there will NOT be chemistry between leads until she cleans up. SHE CANNOT FEEL NOW. How can she feel chemistry .... ?? and her body is totally beat up and shot, she is ill

THIS IS NOT A CHEESY ROM COM THIS IS A HUGE TOPIC

==========

in the West this kind of thing happens for so many people who live on drugs and alcohol, it is a major societal epidemic and has ruined lives of many and killed many. In the USA there is epidemic of pain killer opioid abuse and it is #1 cause of death in people under age of 35 and is proclaimed a national emergency. It is caused by lack of family and friends and community support and the consumerism selfish lifestyle and bad food etc. It is a lot huger than what we are discussing here. Western lifestyle is based on EGOTISM and also destroyed nature and really bad lifestyle habits and that leads to major addictions and toxicity.

So I am interested how Koreans address this. In Korea there is at least family and friends (sometimes foes LOL but also support) and also Asia has concepts of consideration and community deeply ingrained so it is perhaps easier to address these issues. Let's see. I didnt think about this yet. But it is clearly an issue.
China lived under opium epidemics for centuries. Everyone was using heroin and finally communists put the end to it and the production moved to the Golden Triangle.
Did Korea too have opium problems back then... ??? How did Korea avoid it, being a neighbor of China.... ??? I need to research this.

the piece of shit ex and his whore piss me off i hope she loses the baby lmao but I'm glad it didn't take longer…
Hm seems like alcohol was an issue .... he was drunk when he made a baby LOL and he found a woman who was home and not drinking LOL and had the time and energy and FEELINGS for some romance.... while our FL cannot really feel and was getting wasted with that broomstick hair, so unkept, so oblivious.... WOULD you like to date someone like her... ?.... Yeah he was a jerk to mention that only at the end when he was ditching her but alcoholics are like that, if he mentioned it at ANY time, she would ditch him. And, .. . they were drinking buddies..... AND he kknew what she would choose LOL so he was baiting her to break up :)

So yeah... FL ditched the ex and called off the wedding.... , she choose alcohol over him, straight to his face....!!!!! So he is not a jerk really.... ANd lets not lose the baby :( Dont get that bad karma :)

Ah this is very clever. Drinking is out of conrol in Korea so this drama addresses serious issues for the health of that nation.... Alcoholics can be male or female but the drama picked a female bc Asians and everyone are sexist so it is easier to put a female under the scrutiny... IF the drama was about males - who drink while out on business - then the drama would get a huge societal backlash. So the drama starts in the female corner, and slowly. LET US KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT THIS DRAMA STAYS ON COURSE bc it is an important message to spread

One thing is common in 2025 is dramas with 7+ rating Lol
bc none are great... often they are too short 10-12 episodes so it is IMPOSSIBLE to develop the plot

Is it another "Love at Next Door" or "Welcome to Samdalri"? K-drama is just repeating the storyline these days.
they must... if dramas are 10 or 12 episodes it means you have to create a new story a lot more often so yeah they will copycat...

100x better than that potato shit
I persevered until the end of the Potato Lab and the end of ep 11 and ep 12 were a total U-turn and had some REALLY DEEP MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS AND RELATIONSHIP between ML and FL. It was done ah so perfectly. They matched!!!!!!

Look up the scene where they are stuck in the freezer and she tells him how to handle her. And the scene where they got into his bed and she cant do it and he helps her, or the scene where he opens the door to her brother kicking him out. ML and FL didnt change overnight, just started communicating honestly, and it was totally totally magical. Suddenly a lifelong pair of lovebirds emerged, a perfect couple.

and yeah the episodes before that were ... cheesy. So hollywoody meaningless schocking cheesy

Sorry, you’re disappointed there are not more episodes. I believe most of these shows can be done in 10-12,…
I dislike the 10 or 12 episode dramas bc there is no time to show character development and there is no time for any side stories and many actors. That is why I like 50 episode family dramas. There is time to develop. Also, these new 10-episode things require coming up with new stories and new characters so often so the creativity and uniquness of characters will just disappear
