Nothing against kisses but would have preferred a good hug at the end of ep 9 as a callback to the King’s advice.
Yeah first the hug :) our Imugi is younger and hotter than the King :)

While this episode was perhaps different in tone, I really enjoyed it! And it was very informative! (It seems…
yeah exactly! so why did he chase away all shamans and prohibited shamanism... ? ALSO then he KNEW WHICH BLIND MAN... how come he didnt find him now when they looked... ??? SOMETHING IS STRANGE HERE...

Really enjoying Yook Sung Jae in this drama. It's his first proper "grown up" role and he's killing it.
your comment made me think. imugi is actually like a teenager coming of age, he has to figure out how his heart mind and body function and how to relate to others. But he is 1000 years old LOL the grumpy conceited 1000 years old with magical powers and super overconfident and thus recklessly playful, in a body of a young hot human male and with the experience of a teenager / young adult, and on top of it, deeply in love, that he fell into without asking LOL and which he has no clue about. It is SUPER comical and very deep. The actor makes the Imugi a very alive vibrant being of many facets, a very deep and complex character

Can anyone tell me who is the guy from the palace committing sins with the blind men...i can't tell who he is…
I figured it out only when the shaman said it. Grandfather and Grand Minister of State are the same person and yeah thats the guy

after thinking about it... probably anyone can act better if they FORGET how they look... not afraid to look silly :) I think that makes great actors... and also, GENUINELY try to be in the shoes of the character they are acting, which is related to that concept of not thinking how YOU look... So I would say... less egotism and more compassion makes a better actor :)

And I also think , the script and directing. Because it is soooo common that actresses are forced into roles that are so simple and forced to act so simple... as if a complex or strong woman would scare the audience... So there are dumb good female characters OR smart evil ones and practically nothing in between.... There is so much trying to look cute and talk with pursed or open lips - omg yuck cheesy.... So the AUDIENCE needs to support more complex and deeper female roles and better actresses.

So yeah even the shaman actress could turn a great actress, let's see...

Title The Haunted Palace Spoiler
So now the question is - what kind of political games can you have when you have King willingly supporting shaman and 1-2 Imugis doing a social reform on ONE TEAM, against King's grandfather, evil shaman and nasty Big Thing PLUS a super dumb dowager queen with iq of about 10 and immense greed. WHO THE HECK MADE HER A QUEEN... ???? What was attractive about that DUMB chick who even was poor back then... ??? And how the heck the King doesnt understand the relationship between his grandfather and the blind man and the evil thing... ?? where is King's brain? He witnessed so many supernatural things and shaman helped his dad and him, and still, he wants all shamans out and doesnt believe in supernatural... ? Tsk tsk... blind spot on the King... BUT ... he understands all matters of love and women :)

The king is a very complex character and the actor doing the King is doing an amazing job
On The Haunted Palace May 17, 2025
Ah some ppl complain that ep 9 was too flat? I dont think so :) I think that is the meat of the plot - the relationships between characters are exposed, all characters grew and changed, and also the relationships MOVED FORWARD.... . on both sides... there was some evil action too for those who like that.... Now the fun starts. And yeah the rom com progresses too... ;) This is the fun part!!! the sexy Imugi and the shaman who is not a nun! The King is the best romantic advisor ;)

I am joking but I am only half joking. Now very seriously. The Imugi actor is an excellent Imugi, his role is soooo complex and he is doing it brilliantly, it is comical and serious at the same time, he is selfish and caring, and struggling as he transforms .... it is so fun to watch. Bc he is honestly and genuinely in love AND at the same time ... there are remnants of his old self ;) And Bibi. Who gave the name Bibi is a genius LOL

Now the plot allows the shaman actress to act in more complex and different ways (hopefully she can pull it off.....? I saw some ppl questioning it... Well... let's keep our fingers crossed... Imugi actor CAN and that makes this drama worth watching. If she can do more then this will be even more amazing watch.

The actor who does the King keeps doing a great job, he is very convincing.

And everything in the drama has shifted up one level so ... The plot is a LOT thicker. Now we know how that monster ended up there and WHO AND HOW keeps it there. And we know how it can be defeated and we dont want to do that :) And we know for sure who SOME of the bad guys are and who some of the good or neutral guys are... So....

Yeah Imugi is a lot better romantic pair to a shaman than a mere normal mortal Yun Gapp could have ever been.... They are "the same kind" in many ways, they know similar things, they have access to worlds that humans do not understand, they share the same world and understand each other a lot better.. They CAN do things together, they have a lot in common.... . The mortal Yun Gapp would have been totally scared of the shaman as his wife and totally useless... It is very normal that the shaman likes him when he is packaged in a nice human body she always associated with something good.

But where does it lead .... ? let's see..... I think Yun Gapp returning to his body to marry the shaman would be ... well .. flat :) She fell in love with the Imugi, who is a lot more complex and a lot more "powerful" and stronger and sexier and a lot more knowledgeable and wiser CHARACTER than human Yun Gapp. he has 1000 years of experience :) The Imugi is just a very spicey and more fun as a character, especially since now he understands how deities think and how humans think.

So marrying Yun Gapp would feel like senior home after spending time with Imugi. What would the shaman do with the real Yun Gapp??? spend evenings knitting... ???

I am not sure what the consequences are for the Imugi himself if he gets stuck in human form FOREVER bc he fell in love with a human. But ... it already happened!!!! he already couldnt get out of that body even before he knew he fell in love. So.... did the Gods already arrange it..... This is where some legends, folk tales etc come in handy for ideas.... The Imugi wanted to ascend and in some ways he already did! He improved his character a lot and in some way ascended when he got into a human body, bc he learned about love, care, sacrifice, protection, respect, loyalty, honesty, temptation, and all other great things that only humans can learn for the sheer fact that humans live in hell, basically, so they carefully have to choose the correct qualities.

Will Imugi take her with him? hm... i dont think so, I think he cannot. She cannot be happy nor function in the Imugi world nor can she ascend with him. Sacrificing Bibi instead? hm... that's a thought, but usable ONLY if he starves to death LOL and it IS going that way LOL LOL LOL Seriously. I am sure drama writers will think of something creative... and twisty LOL I am sure we will be surprised.

Preview for episode 11Well I knew they were setting up Bibi to turn into a villain the moment Yeo Ri prevented…
But he is NOT a villain really. Our Imugi explains that Bibi eats only bad guys and thus does SERVICE to humanity. Our shaman was too naive to think that that old dude was a good guy. But I also saw that Bibi was upset that our Imugi liked FL .... I didnt watch this weekend episode, he must have done something bad... ?

I answered my own question who is THE ELDER that the blind person works for and keeps mentioning in earlier episodes.... I know we saw his face before Ep 9 but I cannot recognize who that man is :) IS IT the grandfather still??? after 13 years??? I dont think so..... How about the dude helping the young prince study in ep9, is he the Elder??? I THINK SO!!! they show him like that around min 25...

OMG THEY ARE THE SAME PERSON!!!! Grandfather is the Chief State Minister... said the shaman....
and he was talking with the Miniter of Defense, who killed Yun Gap. But I cannot distinguish the two. They are sitting at the same table and look totally alike to me, maybe the General has a more round face....

OK...
Still there are at least several more old bearded men I cannot distinguish, like that dude from Yongnam or whatever village... He has more narrow longer face but honestly looks like the grandfather to me. Grandfather at least has a more high pitch voice.

The deeper underlying issue is that I CANNOT TELL WHO IS WHO OUT OF THOSE OLD BEARDED MEN IN THE SAME ROBES AND HATS.... .. :( The screen goes too fast and I dont have enough time to study their faces. There are too many bearded old men in identical robes and hats and I cannot distinguish who is who. There was one minister of war and I would not be able to recognize him either.... I know I saw him several times but ... I could not recognize him.... Yeah I know that is bad but really that is where I am . Thank you for helping me on this

The comments are just too funny, the Yeol bashing is clearly huge here. Honestly Yeol always makes an effort to…
yeah thats one of the points, Bunny is 100% passive oblivious character who just uses men for attention and coddling her. She and Yeol are a match made in hell bc he is insecure and jealous and a control freak, and she is 100% passive, so at first they are both appealing to each other bc their flaws "match" but then it turns out it is their demise bc both get stuck more in their weak flawed self.
On Crushology 101 May 17, 2025
After I wrote last night the analysis of this flop drama, I realized what the pattern is to create a successful drama and why this kdrama is such a black hole energy sucke to watch. Imo THE ROLE OF THE STORYTELLING e.g in a drama or movie IS TO GIVE ENERGY TO THE AUDIENCE - to somehow ENGAGE the audience. For that, there has to be movement forward.

This drama lacks PROGRESSION. Bunny is 100% passive oblivious character who just uses men for attention and coddling her. Yeol is insecure, jealous, confused control freak, and Bunny is 100% passive, so at first they are both appealing to each other bc their flaws "match" but then it turns out it is their demise bc both get stuck more in their weak flawed self. Bunny and Yeol are a match made in hell AND THEY NEVER OVERCOME IT AND THUS THIS IS EXHAUSTING TO WATCH

My conclusion summarized: If you have one closed off passive scared character like Bunny, then to balance it you need a very spunky brazenly moving forward character like Yeol USED TO BE in the beginning and that is what made episodes 1-4ish sorta ok and fun.
But to keep the story going, the Snow White passive Princess Bunny has to WAKE UP AND RESPOND TO THE PRINCE CHARMING YEOL, SHE HAS TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE so that the pair can move forward. And Yeol has to not give up.

If they do not engage properly and enough, they either fall apart or they are stuck in the same spot and that is toxic, boring, and exhausting to watch.

And Bunny and Yeol never really engaged with one another, they never communicated nor moved forward. Prince charming Yeol did all the work until he fell apart under the obstacle of his ex, and Bunny kept the same poker face the entire time....

So you cannot be showing one person doing all the work for more than like 3 episodes in a 12-episode drama.... And we were waiting for Bunny to defrost and reciprocate, so that together they can relate more and "move forward" together in a "dance". Then we were waiting for Yeol to grow up and archive his ex. And that never happened. He was too weak for that and Bunny was an indequate immature partner who could not help him overcome. SO IT FLOPPED.

Miss Princess Bunny never really woke up out of deep passivity and need for coddling, she NEVER changed and stayed the shut down passive wallflower..... Yeol never bloomed into more open heart, he stayed shut up, boxed in and grumpy, THEY NEVER COMMUNICATE, and the whole thing just STOPS and you sit there and press the DELETE button on them.

For example, I dont think they ever discussed the ex and the public first kiss. For example, why not tell him that that the photo WAS her first love? Bc he is jelous? Ok then we see how this relationship is - it is DEAD. They cannot talk together about anything because any topic will be difficult and offensive bc they are two egoistical snowflakes. That is not love. It WOULD have been cute if it was like that for the first few episodes and then they changed and outgrew it, but they didnt, so Crushology is a botched boring toxic drama.

Or ppl voting for Ji Won. Ji Won is super toxic!!!! he just trolls!!! he never SAID or DID anything that would put him on the agenda. He cowardly hit in the background, and that indicates that he is not really interested. Indeed, he forgot her in a year. But that is ok, they can be friends. BUT HOW DID THEY GROW AS FRIENDS? they did not!!! so even the friendship was a flop.

The second love story of Yeol's friend and cafe clerk was a lot more real story and full of life. They overcame their differences and communicated clearly.

=======
SO THESE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON WHAT MAKES A GOOD STORY:
So to show a love story, it is like showing a dance, the love partners relate to each other and it is like a dance. So we the audience get to see the UNDERSTANDING between the couple and their MOVES FORWARD, we get to see how they COMMUNICATE and INSPIRE each other to GROW and give the best out of themselves. First we might get to see how they overcame " the Snow White" issues, where one partner is not even aware of the other and/or is frozen in some ways and CANNOT even see the other, and then they come together. it can be from the first just falling in love and then in every nitty-gritty event in their life, for example, one wants to study in the USA for a year and the other one says don't go. Good kdramas are masters of showing this process with certain warmth and humanity and CREATIVITY that is endearing and inspiring.

In a good story, there is COMMUNICATION between the characters, and the characters GROW and RELATE to each other. Somehow bad, good, difficult and/or demanding things happen to the main character and the "hero" puts in effort to overcome. So anything from .... not leaving puddles after taking a shower, getting good grades or a job, becoming confident, healing some issues, winning the love of your life, .... all the way to ascending to Heaven etc. THE DEPTH AND DIFFICULTY DO NOT MATTER, the only thing that matters is how much it means to the characters and how much effort they put in and how much they transform.

As for romantic pairs, the sum total has to be 100% :) They gotta MOVE together as if dancing. It is ok that one moves more than another, for example in salsa the man "diplays" the lady who is dressed more fancy and does most of the fancy work. It is ok that they both move crazy, like in boogie woogie or they both slink it, like in kizomba. BUT IT IS NOT OK WHEN THEY ARE MOVING SEPARATELY OR NOT MOVING AT ALL.... unless it is the very very start and then it is fun to watch how they start to engage and "dance" and relate together.

Crushology 101 is basically a SnowWhite story. Bynny is deep asleep in her passivity and ignorance. She is a complete oblivious idiot loser. Naive good girl but in the worst possible edition, a Princess demanding utmost admiration without giving anything in return, she just expects to be coddled. Yeol came in as the spunky Prince Charming willing to do the footwork to melt the frozen wall that Bunny is under. BUT SHE NEVER PUT IN ANY EFFORT TO MELT IT AND HE ALSO GAVE UP. So the story flops.

A successful SnowWhite story is in drama Five Enough, where a very vivacious Golfer wakes up the frozen oblivious and selfish Teacher (the Mr. Queen actress - she was so super comical in Five Enough teacher role until the dramamaker forced her into acting stupidly oblivious and dumb.) That drama is so fun bc the Golfer never gives up and Frozen Teacher starts melting on her own and taking action to make the relationship possible. That particular relationship is actually ... somewhat flawed bc he lies and cheats to get her to unfreeze LOL but eventually she gives in and it becomes an honest relationship.
A less vivacious but more profound adult version of that with excellent communication is in current kdrama For Eagle Brothers, between Chairman and CEO Ma. CEO Ma is still a little stupid and frozen LOL but the Chairman is an exemplary communicator and has been defrosting her successfully and SHE RESPONDED TO IT.

***** ONCE THE SNOW WHITE RESPONDS TO THE PRINCE'S KISS, THE STORY CAN MOVE FORWARD *****
Drama Love Scout about mature adults has another example of deep freeze FL who was pulled out by good communication and effort of ML and then she reciprocated. That kdrama has excellent communication between ML and FL and that's why it is rated 9.8 on Viki.

The process of "coming together to dance" can happen on all levels, for example two good natured goofballs Young Cheri and Loser in kdrama ALl About my Mother BOTH grow up bc Cheri grew up first and pushed him - and he responded.
The process can be between severely traumatized people and can be really violent and scary, like in kdrama Queen of Tears of Flower of Evil or It is ok not to be OK, where a deeeeeply frozen, traumatized, mentally ill, abuse survivor person is pulled out of their deep dark corner by the love effort of their partner.
it can be totally hillarious how they force each other to grow, like in The Love Divine where a religious fanatic gives up being a priest LOL for the actress who did Empress Ki :) and that drama is completely completely HILLARIOUS
It can be super murky and depressing like in My Mister, it took some major crime against him and spying on him to gain her trust , but then she as the Snow White changed her ways and turned to his side ...

BUT THE KEY IS THAT THE DEEPLY FROZEN ASLEEP SNOW WHITE ****RESPONDS**** TO THE PRINCE'S KISS AND MAKES THE EFFORT TO WAKE UP.

Prince's kiss has to shake that poisoned apple out of the asleep partner, and THEN the partner wakes up and moves, AND EMBRACES THE PRINCE.

In the original Snow White story, Snow White did not jump up screaming that the Prince was rude, did not call the police to report forced kissing, did not tell him to leave bc she dislikes him or is not sure about him or has someone else or other plans, did not tell him to leave bc she is shy, etc. In a bad story, Snow White would have said "thank you " and then left. But SHOW WHITE GRABBED THAT PRINCE REAL GOOD :) and that is why the story is interesting.

Even the deeply disturbing revenge drama Glory is interesting only bc the FL responds to the love of the ML and lets go a little bit. IF they just continued to kill and destroy the bad guys, that kdrama would have been just blah ordinary. But the fact that the FL GETS BETTER AS A PERSON, she becomes more soft, she lets go of the trauma from the past, is the key to a memorable story. WE SEE WHAT SHE OVERCAME. Even kdrama like Vincenzo where they never really come together is interesting bc Vincenzo did change a little bit bc of the FL and did become slightly softer to "take up a hobby to help others" (while still kept drilling holes in live people etc). Plankton is yet another kdrama where there is no "happy end" simply bc the Snow White (in this case, Mr. Plankton) just did not have what it takes to totally defrost, but at least put effort and defrosted a little bit, to the best of his ability.

Crushology 101 is a flop bc ML and FL and 2nd ML are all dead beat characters. There is nothing spunky, energetic, ALIVE about them. They are scared and closed off and do not communicate nor really interact. They dont put themselves out there. They dont make themselves vulnerable. There is no risking, no communication. They are selfish, closed, and actually... brutal. LOL

So Crushology could have been "coming of age" kdrama where flawed characters get to experience and try different things and GROW from it, but the characters never grew and so the drama is a flop. They didnt have to date or marry or love each other forever. Just flirting would have been enough, trial and error mistakes of college students, BUT WE SHOULD HAVE SEEN THEM CHANGE AND GROW. If the story requires a more spaced out time to show the growth, if it does not come "daily" then ok show the time skip. Crushology has 1 yr time skip BUT STILL NO GROWTH. **** IT IS THE JOB OF THE SCRIPT WRITER TO TIME SKIP TO THE TIME WHEN THE GROWTH HAPPENS *****

Who wants to watch two flawed characters doing wrong things forever??? We all see plenty of that in real life, why sit in front of screen to watch it in a drama too.... ??? Hollywood shows flawed characters doing bad things, stories without content, just grabbing attention by sex and violence. Thats why I dont watch it LOL Thats why I like kdramas because many great kdramas show masterful storytelling that is fun, meaningful, educational, and WARM AND HUMANE AND INSPIRING, and realistic. Kdramas show real people from real lives living their daily lives...

kdramas are CREATIVE
and that cannot be produced by Hollywood for the mere fact that the West is NOT creative anymore. The lifestyle has turned to drugs and decadence and has no creativity anymore. Sad but true.

A good story has twists and turns that are unpredictable and surprising, in that process of "coming together to dance". We dont say for nothing that "this is my love partner" bc relationships are just like dance, you move together, and each couple has their own style and rhythm but the ESSENCE of WHY they are moving is the same, it is a deep mutual understanding that both are putting the effort to keep dancing together, it is a communication, and you can tell if they are engaging each other properly and putting effort, bc if they are, they are both happy and healthy and the dance is graceful and joyful

I think this kdrama is for CONFUSED immature people without boundaries and without guts to be honest, of all ages. It is ok to show "coming of age" drama but then we need to see HOW THE CHARACTERS GREW. They dont have to become lifelong loves, it is ok to flirt or date a little, break up, etc, BUT THEY MUST GROW to make it worthwhile watch. In this drama, they never grew.
