Yeah you are right, "boring" is not an adequate word. The better word is ROTTING, or DEAD, ASLEEP. or DRAGGING YOU DOWN, DESTRUCTIVE. The better word is HOPELESS, energetically draining, disgusting, dragging down, destructive to your inner being, something that leaves a bad taste in your mouth and drains your energy and makes you feel exhausted and hopeless after watching it, watching alseep isolated people who suffer alone and never communicate, and then struggle in their daily lives because of their ignorance. THAT FEELING OF WHY SHOULD I WATCH THIS WHEN I SEE THESE PROBLEMS EVERY DAY IN REAL LIFE AND WHAT I AM WATCHING NOW IS NOT PROVIDING ANY SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS.

Yeah it is beyond boring. It is like being on a train in a dark tunnel with a dead end, the feeling of WASTED LIFE ENERGY. Thanks for clarifying

To me this show conveys stories of hopeless people without any solution, which is the signature of all american movies and series, and I am HORRIFIED to see that trend creeping into kdramas.

As for boring, this show lacks CONTENT and VIBRANCY bc it uses american filming style where you show characters live their life from moment to moment - opening doors, walking into rooms, driving, etc - bc then th script writer does not have to think of new content to write :) very lazy trick - so it is overly slow and boring AS YOU KEEP WATCHING PEOPLE LIVING ON AUTOMATIC PILOT ....
THE ONLY WAY a lazy script like that could become interesting is when we see their boring desperate life and THEN a bomb falls in and destroys the status quo and then we start seeing sudden changes,
A more creative and more interesting and more ALIVE script focuses on the main parts of their life and the moments that are most revealing and life changing.

ML is a great actor so yeah what is going on. there are no interesting scripts to him or netflix pays more? There are 14 episodes and so we are past the half, so.... .

I think the next KBS family drama looks promising. let's see!
The FL seems the classic clutz bad acting but we will see. ML seems like a seriously deep great actor and side characters seem intriguing and acting quite well. Let's see!

i would not quite give up on family dramas bc they are the only ones with intergenerational families, kids, elderly, cousins, etc, and 50 episodes allows for many characters and relationships and steady character growth and CAN be fun
100 episode dailies can show such complex groups too but ACTING in dailies is typically a lot worse. Dailies are where new and bad actors can find jobs :) and characters do not have to be so flashed out. To see an experienced actor like Dog Tak actor etc, you gotta watch a family drama, typically

I wouldnt give up on family dramas bc that is about the only place where we watch extended families, kids, elderly, cousins, complex family situations, and the plot and characters can develop bc there is time in 50 episodes.... And there are many masterpiece family dramas I have seen
BE PATIENT AND WAIT FOR THEM TO MAKE A GREAT FAMILY DRAMA AGAIN... I think it is the matter of paying the script writer and also getting decent film crew and actors. AND our feedback matters.
Imo masterpiece family dramas I watched are My Father is Strange, All about my mother, Five Enough, Empress KI is a classic, etc etc
(Imo the boring ones are It is Beautiful Now, The Real has Come, Young Lady and Gentleman, 3 bold siblings, and somewhat Beauty and Mr Romantic) Iron Family imo was great up until almost the end when the mommy son stuck to his criminal mommy.

Imo 100 episode dailies also show intergenerational extended families but the acting in dailies is typically a lot worse, dailies have simpler plots and simpler characters, are a great start for new actors and allow bad actors who just cry and yell kinda thing LOL

Yeah, Lady and Gentleman, Its all beautiful now, Live your life, 3 bold siblings, etc were ... wow boring. ML Gentleman was memorable and two villains were perfect, 3 bold siblings ML was memorable, and the rest... I forgot. Oh not quite. I REMEMBER being frustrated with the script LOL amnesia gallore... LOL or with bad acting. FL leads in Lady and Gentleman and 3 bold siblings were ... completely inadequate in acting
But there was great acting, for example
Beauty and Mr Romantic had some fun parts, esp when they let the FL act as a bumpkin. She had SO much fun acting it and honestly that part is the only part I remember of that drama.

FYI Geyol actor is in Beyond the Bar drama as a spoiled brat parasite "salary thief" who talks back at his supervisors at work LOL and it is HILLARIOUS, he is a great actor, he was a tame overly responsible son in For Eagle Brothers and now he is a total 100% opposite LOL he is a great comedian

I would love to watch Dog Tak actor in another deep complex emotional role bc his acting in this drama was excellent beyond excellent, esp his scenes when it becomes obvious he is going to jail and his hard shell starts breaking. Even one scene of eating dinner with his wife is WOW scene. His thinking to himself, straight face shots, WOW scenes, such DEPTH. He is amazing.

I thought and thought about it. I think he acts HONESTLY AND GENUINELY and I am not sure how he does that but the character is THERE and it is deep.

BTW It took me a while to overcome my remembering-too-clearly his role of serial killer in Flower of Evil. He is too good of an actor and he was convincing in that too... it took me many episodes to forget that role and see him as Dog Tak. LOL It would be better to use different haur style or something to make him look different :) Just a suggestion since I totally totally hate pinning an actor into ONE type of role. Unless that kind of role is the only thing that actor can act....
BTW Flower of Evil is truely horrifying kdrama and an excellent education about WHY children become disfynctional. Anything that Lee Gong Ki does is usually horrifying, except Clown. I think that is his masterpiece and his real self. The rest feels to me like a pushed effort to mask that he is gay or bi - or soemthing like that. I have no idea if this is true or not, it is just my inner feeling. All his other dramas are thrillers where he is a macho man without any character growth.

Imo Kwang Soo actor has improved and the little time he had on the screen by the end was so memorable, he was so ALIVE and GENUINE in his role and yes we needed to see more
Like Dog Tak actor, his last episodes from being discovered and going to jail were amazing acting

I analyzed a lot and I think now I can summarize in one sentence why the drama flopped and became boring after ep 20-30. IT STAGNATED. IT WAS NOT ALIVE ANYMORE. IT WAS NOT HONEST. The acting of feelings was not there. THE ROMANTIC COUPLES HAD NO *** GENUINE ETHUSIASM OR INTEREST **** FOR EACH OTHER

NO REAL CONNECTION

THERE WAS NO ROMANCE in CS-MS, DS-GS, SR-BS, ...
Mom and Baldy had romance, he was feeding her, they danced tango, ... DS actor tried but GS actress was always frigid... I think BS actor tried a little bit but SR actrss was incapable of acting... CS and MS relationship is of friendly roommates ...

As I repeated, I am not interested in any explicit sexual scenes and even a kiss can be too much for my taste, but ok I consent to a kiss here and there, and I think there are TONS of other ways that couples show romance and love in every scene they act in normal life, for example how they look at each other, sit close to each other, cook or feed each other, ask each other for intimate times, call each other on dates, talk to each other, do things together, think of each other, hold hands, run to each others' arms with enthusiasm to say helo or goodbye, and so on. THERE ARE MILLION WAYS TO SHOW CARE AND LOVE AND GENUINE ENTHUSIASM AND DEEP CONNECTION .

AND THIS KDRAMA MISSED IT ALMOST 100%

Some of the most memorable moments for me was of course DS flirting when both of them were hospital patients (which was a hopeful sign of LIFE AND VIBRANCY and GENUINE ENTHUSIASM AND INTEREST and then the FL actress killed it with her cold lukewarm unresponsiveness, total lack of any interest in him.

Some of the most memorable moment for me was when Kang Su gets caught looking at Bom's drawing of him and starts thinking of him, and someone walks on him and he turns, all blushing, and he twirls around trying to escape and his coat flies all around him. What a metaphor for the swirling strong emotions inside him. He is so alive and so in love, and it is palpable. Or the scene when he stands close to Bom and they stare at each other - that scene had magnetism.

There was no other scenes like that. It was just FLAT DEAD. Did we ever see FL call the ML on dates, asking him to talk about himself, doing something for him, or trying to spend time with him in any way? Nope we didnt Their marriage feels like a business deal sugar daddy marriage.

I analyzed this a lot because I also think the first 20 or so episodes were great and then... .it got stuck and became super boring. I concluded it is because CHARACTERS STOPPED GROWING. And also bc there was ZERO chemistry between the romantic pairs. The drama was full of love stories but they never showed enthusiasm for each other. Esp FL actress was so lukewarm cold to the ML actor and SR actress was so poker faced to BS actor that is was puking, and CS and MS were like two impotent seniors devoid of any feeling of anything truly romantic, more like two friends.

THERE WAS NO ROMANCE WHATSOEVER. Just Dong Suk dragging GS around like a reluctant cow on a leash and she having as much enthusiasm for him as if he were a painful menstrual period. SHE HAD ZERO ENTHUSIASM FOR HIM. Did she ever call him out on a date, or tried to spend time with him???? . Why did they get married?
The only enthusiasm I saw from her was when she was acting his nurse in ep 54, she HONESTLY treated him as an old injured man. Everything else was fake. ML actor tried but FL actress was so frigid. The actress is so unprofessional to the point of not being able to ACT enthusiam, her personal feeling of disliking that older actor SHOWED. I am saying this based solely on what I saw in this kdrama. I have never seen the FL actress before and I have no clue about her other work. I just know that she BOTCHED this drama.

The very last scene when ML and FL sit on the floor with the kids and give a speech is so... illustrative. At the end of the speech, he leaned over to kiss her and SHE LEANED BACK and I think even shooed him away with her hand. Just rewatch the very end of ep 54

And also Se Ri and Boon Su. She was just POKER FACED DISTANT, she always stayed his little student on the side, called him Professor to the very end.
BORING

Kang Su and Bom had great flirty moments, because he is great in acting it out. Small details like he turning around bc he is smitten and his coat flying around him - such a metaphor for his inner feeling and how strong it is....., or he standing close to her and staring at her, were so packed full of romance. He was ALIVE in his acting, for a few seconds of screen time given to him, he was ALIVE in acting KS feelings to Bom

I think I skipped several episodes but I missed nothing LOL I saw the last one.
Still this drama is better than than last KBS weekend dramas which were all flops. Except the Iron Family (until the very end, when it flopped too). Iron Family was such a masterpiee until near the end when ML went along with his mommy and ditched his girl to not piss off the mommy. I was like ... heck, mama boy, lets quit this drama now. But before then, Iron Family was great. The only complaint? The orphan boy was too serious and that actor is NOT suitable for that :) He is best when he is bubbly charming active. He shows that side sooo well.... Other previous weekenders were like ... omg ... simplistic and boring.

This drama was great till episode 20 and then all characters FROZE and there was no character development anymore... So it became terribly boring. They did some stuff here and there but overall, nothing moved forward except SOME of their external actions, but without any inner change. It was too ordinary and boring. Very simplified. It reduced the acting too

Wow I would now really like to know what REALLY happened in this drama. Seriously. Bc it is just uncanny. GW actress was fine pretending to be the nurse of DS, it was like FAKING being nice to him, but there was ZERO cheminstry at any time, and the last scene when they sit and hold the babies at the celebration, he leaned over to kiss her and she just moved her body away and I think even shooed him away with her hand. I was like wooow...!!!!
Dog Tak actor is the most skilled actor in this cast. DS actor is ok but he is always the same - he was the same in this drama and in Five Enough. Exactly the same.
I think Kang Sook actor graduated, he got to be pretty good by the end.
I am glad Bom got to wear mini skirts and at least look the part
Se Ri actress is quite terrible in acting

The kids are great and I rather watch something like this than trying to "feel out" the audience about baby cloning etc like in Defects drama.

And ... bc of the "bland" meaningless content of this drama, I started watching daily Queen's House LOL which actually has a lot more plot, character development, and storyline than This Bland one . I even watched some of Woman Who Swallowd the Sun. That is a different feel, it is a psychological thriller and they are always scheming who is doing what and what is the next move so it is not terribly interesting but still was more interesting than THIS, because at least they are making efforts to accomplish their goals.

I guess the value of this drama is showing some "suburbia" "successfull people" their stable lives and living peacefully and growing as people at a very sloooooow if non-existant rate.

I think the only person who truly changed in this drama is Dog Tak.
And somewhat Kwang Su
and somewhat Dancer and Hairdresser

GS was changing in the first few episodes and then.. .got frozen
Choon Soo changed but somehow it was not FELT. He and his lady were so bland
Dong Suk changed some, he wasnt afraid of women anymore but from ep 10 on he is the same

This drama is like watching lives of some ordinary people who arent growing leaps and bounds but are just living day to day, doing th rote thing...

Well luckily for me, I do NOT read what is written online about the script... :) I just go by what I SEE in the drama.

if the screenwriter planned to redeem JH, that is totally ok.
You should read what I wrote. God is a mystery and redemption is possible any time anywhere.
Screen writers get to play God with their characters so yeah, screen writer can make it happen if they want to.

This kdrama unfortunately is NOT entirely fantasy. Many children live under really nasty conditions and are abused by their parents and discarded in many different ways. Many children have been molested, tortured and killed.

Why dont you google Native American boarding schools, colonial schools, African America n slave breeding, drinking baby blood for youth, and soooo many other terrible things that children all over the world experience and have experienced.
Why dont you google mines in Congo for digging the conflict minerals, or African children soldiers in colonized countries, or child labor making products for export to the West, etc

Well just read Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens - THE ENTIRE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION WAS BY CHILD LABOR!!!!! and still is....
or read the modern The Color Purple of Maya Angelou and you will learn about strife of so many children.
or read about scandals with pedophiles in Catholid church or why the last Pope "appologized" to Native Americans for the boarding schools.

Just read, buddy and get educated.

This kdrama is NOT about something that has never happened.

Of course he can die - but it is not for us to WISH that he dies :)

Wishing death is too violent.... indulging in thinking wishing someone or something dies is basically black sorcery.

It is a bad habit and would lead you into thinking that freely and then thinking it for real people and situations. That is ... murder in your own head. DO YOU wish to waste your brain power for that?

Every thought creates energy and sends an impulse of energy out... IS DEATH WHAT YOU WISH TO SEND OUT?

God decides who dies and who doesn't. We as mere humans better not indulge in wishing death to anyone, including drama characters, it is just not good HABIT to take this so casually, not the right thing to do.

Because this bad habit then gets stronger and stronger and then where is the line where you can wish death to someone or something alive.

that ep 2 law case was soooo soapy ... and ... felt so fake.. "She wants to have a baby with a face like hers" sounds like a terrible narcissistic thing to do to a child.
Instead, why wouldnt that woman get at peace with her situation... and maybe adopt a child if she loves children? Or at least, adopt a pet, and just LOVE SOMEONE, that is the healing

dramas are about transformation, so so it involves CHANGE so if we start with a supportive guy, then some disaster will happen to test it - like in WHEN LIFE SERVES YOU TANGERINES - in that kdrama, we have the same supportive guy from start to end but with sooooo many problems that they had to overcome ..... - and if we start with a jerk, then a better one will come.. like here, the "perfect genes" moron is replaced by a much better fit, the ML

No way, that colleague from school dude is not the match for FL, he is quite dumb and shallow and just looks stupid and immature and irresponsible and lazy compared to her. Just rewatch his comments after talking with the client alone in ep2. He is dumb. Not her league at all.
THE ML IS HER LEAGUE AND HER MATCH

@purpleheart6 it is slightly different bc FL is not a clutz. She is very competent and HELPS and SAVES the ML so she gained his respect.
Also, she is wise and sorts people out fast enough... and ML passed HER test.
So the ML FL relationship is more of equals rather then the classical kdrama recipe "FL damsel in distress dumb clutz needs the ML to keep babysitting her and saving her."

Imo the gas company probably ALREADY has too high prices and rakes in tons of money, so much over what they should be charging, .....
so I do not think much of that small spa taking some gas.

My comment makes perfect sense to me. God is a mystery so anyone can achieve redemption at any time, however, there has to be effort first.
TS is a "hero" to the kids - he saved them and looked for them for like 10 years or so. He DESERVED his title of being a hero to them. He risked his life and spent TEN YEARS OF HIS LIFE helping those kids every single day. Wow that is a lot of work!!!!!

JH has not moved one finger yet. So he wont be redeemed unless he moves his as# into redemption action.

And dont wait for some person to save him LOL He is an adult and he can think for himself. HIS OWN HEART HAS TO WAKE UP.
The kindness from AY can be the fire that fires that bomb that will destroy the shell around him.

At the end, it is between the Higher Forces and the little human being. JH has an inner voice and THAT has to lead him into redemption, regardless of his upbringing.

Just like TS decided to start looking what he is throwing away.

You must have an interesting dark and murky and twisted background to defend JH like that and to forget to mention all TS's accomplishments.
