Masterpiece, iconic classic

The story is realistic...

and we get to see character growth of the entire family.

Yang Che Ri and her honey are an amazing pair and how she kicked his as# into being confident. I remember her role!!!! Then I remember his role too, he was so charming.
The Daughter and her architect husband are most handsome pair, she has a gorgeous body and he has the face AND the body, both are athletes, but their acting wasnt so great
her dad and yelling at her "Young Che Ri!!!!" is somethng I still hear in my head LOL And her dad's clothes. He was impeccably dressed in clothes that matched his gray hair

The Oldest Son and his lady are an interesting pair. Both of them grew up majorly bc of each other.

The main Pair, the cheating YES! husband and the dictator Mother, were not interesting :) They did their growth bc they HAD TO, time was running out

Boring and messy bad script and mostly bad acting

The ML actor saved it bc he was so good.

The FL actress was the MOST COLD person totally oblivious to the ML actor, and also she was completely incapable of acting. COMPLETELY.

you can just imagine how bad the drama was since I do not remember anyth9ng from it unless I try, and the only first association is my thinking with concern "wow what a boring messy drama and acting, the male lead is the only one acting here, I hope he can pull it off alone"

Ah yes there was a VERY pretty lady villain, his mom

and the moral of the story was .... to NEVER blindly trust anyone near you if you are rich. CHECK THE DOCUMENTS INSTEAD

Now I remember, this drama had the trope plot that they misquote one DNA result zillion times

wow what a drag.

The only saving grace in this kdrama was ML

Otherwise, the drama was most boring and messy and just ... bad script and bad acting

FL actress was terrible, could not really act, plus, she was SO SKINNY it was uncanny, Yet she was acting being pregnant...

so you can just imagine how meaningless the content of this kdrama was that I cannot remember anything until I force myself to.

Amnesia plot... TWICE. What else shall I say? you got the idea

The only good thing in this kdrama was the ML who is a competent and fun actor.
FL actress can NOT act ..... nothing... zero ... nil ....

the villain character was a single person who just kept having babies and leaving them LOL
SO the value of this kdrama was to not think that your employees are telling the truth, and to be aware if you are rich, you attract parasites

Clever "improved" copy of Lawless Lawyer, but kinda generic... Nothing stayed with me

I watched this a few months ago. It is a total "copy with improvements" of Lawless Lawyer. Lee Gong Ji is again a lawyer etc taking down corrupt officials, and this time there are some supernatural elements and the villains are taking entire Korea and its president. THe drama is not about character growth but about outwitting the criminals.

The watch was not bad but I notice that I do not remember anything from this show EXCEPT thinking that the Assemblyman is NOT as nearly a good villain as Judge Cha from Lawless Lawyer. The Judge was UNSURPASSED acting of a smooth powerful evil villain. Assemblyman looks like an amateur compared to her. He is just not ... sleezy enough. Not scary enough. Not politely cold enough. Not distant enough.. Just not a great villain like her.

I also remember that I was thinking it was a karma show. There are many elements of karma and how our actions shape the future. So the Lawyer did not date etc, he made sure he erased his previous bad karma and he focused on becoming a prosecutor and then chasing criminals. That is perhaps the only "character growth" element in this kdrama .

And the side character, the prosecutor friend... Is interesting. He was the magician in Twinkling Watermellon and in this drama too he spoke like that so I was expecting him to be some kind of supernatural influence, but he was not :) Seems like that is how he acts... .

One of The GLory villains is a half villain here and she is pretty good at it. She is assemblyman's secretary.

So... lots of action, and not much deeper content, and most importantly, you can tell the depth of it, since I do not really remember anything until I force myself to remember :) It means that it did not reach me...

Focus on outwitting criminals, not on personal growth. *AMAZING* villains

This kdrama is an action-oriented show, the plot is about how to outwit the criminals, and there is really no emphasis on character development of our heros....
So... I did not like that. It is the usual run of the mill chasing criminals, but in this case, by outwitting them.
I wasnt impressed much by the ML and FL. Ah yes, FL was on her feet and not a total loser, so that was great.

What I got out of this kdrama is VILLAINS :) The are extremely memorable and realistic.

The Judge Cha is a superb villain!!!!!!! The script is great and the actress is just amazing. So polite composed sweet-talking .... huge big parasitic predator... Wow what a monster!!!!

I havent seen such a great depiction of a heartless corrupt person. I will always remember her first any time I think of a villain.... SHE IS THE PERFECT CORRUPT EVIL "MAFIA BOSS".

This kdrama was later basically copied and enhanced to make "Again my Life" also with Lee Gong Ji in the main role as a lawyer, and with a copy of the Judge as a male Assemblyman, who does even more than the Judge but ... he is not as powerful character and acting like her... Cannot even compare.

JUDGE CHA FROM LAWLESS LAWYER IS THE SLEEZIEST SCARIEST VILLAIN YOU COULD POSSIBLY SEE... the other one is the Chef from "heo's diner".

And the Major from Lawless Lawyer!!!! OMG!!!!! THAT ACTOR WAS BRILLIANT AS A THUG TURNED CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OWNER AND THEN THE MAJOR!!!! Omg!!!! His voice, how he spoke, his stiff body and showing off, his body language, his licking his inner cheeks... woooow... HE WAS SO REALISTIC AND MEMORABLE. And so honest about being a free thug and not a dog... ... the last scene when he burns the money ...
Some people wrote he was distracting boring to watch etc but heck no!!!! that actor acted a gangster to the last dot. IT was real!!!!! A crazy person with various "ticks" .... Omg. When I think of a thug, I think of him :)

PS - I had to look up the name of the drama that copycatted and added to Lawless Lawyer, so I had to look up Lee Gong Ji and wow he is so famous, his Wikipedia bio stopped at year 2023 ... lol

I was impressed by his acting in Flower of Evil because his acting helped me to understand what happens with traumatized children, and I love his acting in the King and the Clown. I think his best acting was Clown. ALl his later roles are some macho dudes who are totally ... closed off and cold. He looks scary with his eyes and his triangular face and big ears, he looks like an elf or alien. But in Clown he is soft and has a rounded face, so I keep wondering if he had plastic surgery or WHAT happened? in any case, Clown was his first role and he isnt always very secure in his acting, BUT his acting is amazing there

Trash. Plot made by female stupidity and his/her misunderstandings. TERRIBLE acting of FL etc

I watched this to the end bc most kdramas take a U turn that is unsusepected and you get the hidden gem. But not this drama LOL
This drama was all right at the very very end.
But from the beginning to almost the end, ... it was .... BAD, contrived and forced, mostly

The script is mostly trash until the very end and makes plot by FL stupidity and misunderstandings between her and ML and then all bad decisions of her "family."
At the very very end it gets better. When they fight and destroy bottles LOL

The whole crew are not the greatest actors at all. Maybe only the webtoon writer could act genuinely and felt like a real character. Everyone else was clearly overreacting to make sure they "act", FORCING their character instead of BEING the character, so it was very unconfortable forced to watch too,
but at least theiy tried to embody their character

FL was the worst actress ever because it was clear she was PRETENDING to act. It was frustrating to watch someone be so FAKE. She had that smirk of "I am acting this is not for real" and it was just ... contrived, fake, slimey feeling to watch someone who wasnt even THERE as their character but as themselves pretending to be someone else bc someone paid them for it or whatever. it wasnt genuine acting.

Masterpiece with underlying desperation

This movie is a masterpiece. It talks about really deep issues in a "fun" way with lots of great costuming, stellar acting and engaging story. The only bad part is that the show is so vivid but the underlying message is depressing - "it is not possible to fight oppression if you are too low on the totem pole." Yes that is true and also it is not :) That is a whole new review LOL In just a few words: each one of us has karma, and we gotta resolve it. Looking into this movie, there were other possible options for the two characters to live a happier life, but they PERSISTED in going in the wrong direction. That is their karma. Personally, I think it would be better to sneak into King's palace and get the fem Clown out and then go hide in the mountains :) Or leave the fem Clown there but go out and organize an uprising to get him out. Or get out and start meditating and become a saint in honor of the fem Clown .... etc etc etc But that's my solution. The Clowns did not think of it. So .. their karma... I just dislike thinking that the only solution is to feel bad and bear it. I think even when we bear it, we are supposed to feel peace and it SHOULD FEEL LIKE THE RIGHT THING. I think the two Clowns just egged each other down the deep end. The fem Clown had to follow the macho Clown suicidal attempt, and macho Clown did not think of better solutions to bail out the fem Clown. For example macho Clown should have written in front of king to prove that ANYONE can copy fem Clown writing. If macho Clown could do it then someone else could do it and King certainly was aware of nasty people who frame others.... It was worth trying. But macho Clown did not want to risk it.

The movie is about so many deep issues... at this point in time, I see these issues:
how artists are poor and limited and at the mercy of those who pay them, to the point of abuse, exploitation and even sexual abuse,
the DESPERATION it produces, as fem Clown was forced into prostitution and he willingly went for it to not cause trouble
how it is easy to make a popular, great performance by putting in sex and poop jokes... everyone finds that funny ... so it is used in so much "art"
how art can be used for healing trauma, for telling stories, for communicating, for political and social change, as ART IS POWERFUL CATALYST
how that is forbidden as the society does not care for change, so it supresses art (the nobleman and courtesans and grandma did not like the shows LOL)
How the potent messages have to be hidden in the art to avoid retaliation, so you hide profound messages behind sex and poop jokes etc
how artists will decide to risk their life to do creative pieces which "they cannot do anywhere else" as fem Clown decided to stay in the dangerous palace to do one new art show,
how mistakes cannot be taken back - later the fem Clown could not leave the palace anymore and it was certain death AND he pulled his soulmate Clown into torture and death, he is directly responsible. And instead of fixing it somehow in a productive way, he just committed suicide with him. And the macho Clown, instead of somehow breaking in to free the fem Clown, he boldly went in to get killed. DUMB FOOLS. LOSERS,
OVERALL, the issue of exploited and abused poor and their desperation at their condition and their lack of effort to get out of it. ===>>>THIS IS THE WORST AND VERY EVIL TEACHING OF THIS KMOVIE. I really dislike this. The filmmaker makes only such movies, of great calamities that have no solution.
OVERALL the issue of the entitled and nasty rich, who do WHATEVER they want and retaliate if exposed. and are nasty to the point of murder, rape, prostitution and pervesion
the trauma of abused children who then grow up crazy
the trap of rich and famous and being catered to and thus becoming weak and losing one's mind - the king was a porn abuser and mentally off to the point of being a murderer
the nasty politics and as$ kissing and murders as ppl compete to be rich and famous - the prostitute swindling the king with pervert porn tricks
and yeah love between males and how that is not socially accepted - the two Clowns were definitely "married" and the king felt lust and some trace of love for the fem Clown who was a rather "pure soul"
the weakness of characters who have too much protection - the fem Clown was so meek and "pure" bc the macho Clown just took care of him, so fem Clown never grew and was basically a child in adult body

And personally, I think the costuming, the dances, the performances are STELLAR, sex and poop jokes and all, this was so creative and educational!!!!! And the acting of every single actor is 1000% STELLAR.

Lee Joon Gi's best acting imo is in this movie. He is a PERFECT woman. The manerism, the hips, the voice, ... and he is pretty :) Such a beautiful round full soft face. I kept analyzing WHY. Because I saw him first in Flower of Evil and Lawless Layer kdramas and honestly, I thought he was really ugly!!!! he looks like an elf!!!! with big floppy ears and a triangular chin that made him look like an alien, and very stiff "macho man" body and movement and yeah all those fights.
He is a little better looking in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo bc he has long hair that hides his floppy ears and triangular face, and some pretty bows in long hair that distract attention.
In King and Clown, his face looked very full and round and soft, with a square jaw!!!! and ... thick meat on his face... I cannot explain it... he looks skinny faced in his later dramas... .... and I was wondering if he got plastic surgery after to get rid of strong jaw he shows here???? And his dancing here was stellar, he is very flexible. Also, all his roles after this movie are all thrillers, where he is a macho he man who fights and kills and is cold faced and cruel and has women, and even there are moments where he shoos away any guys who say they like him, like the son of the father he got out of prison in Again my Life. So seems like LJG worked really hard to get rid of the fem image.... ??

This is surely a gay drama, it is a triangle between two clowns and the king. The macho Clown is surely in love with the fem Clown and vice versa, otherwise they would not be doing such great things for each other to the point of individual suicide and joint suicide! and daily hugging and sleeping so close next to each other. The gay romance is hidden from the audience, just hinted at, for example the two of them sleeping so close in the corner next to each other and He puttinig a blanket on She, we did not need to see any more details than that... since it would be distracting from the movie's main topics.

The movie focused on what a **loving relationship** is. But I think the movie does not really show it. There is not enough communication and growth between the two Clowns. They are very ordinary people who feel deeply for each other but do not know WHAT TO DO WITH IT.
The king felt lust and some immature "affection" but as soon as it wasnt to his liking, he was going to kill his "love". So from his example we know what love is NOT.
The relationship between the two Clowns teaches us more about love, but not everything. It was very soulmate-like deep and solid relationship and definitely beyond just friendship, but it was not a totally functional relationship. The movie just did not want to focus on the fact that it was two MEN in love (and all the details of bed time etc that goes with it) and distract the audience from the bigger issues that are addressed in the movie.

The only way that these two were not lovers is if they were somehow relatives etc, or if they feared to look gay, or if the macho Clown did not want to evoke memories in fem Clown of being raped for money. But I doubt these were the reasons. In any case, their relationship was waaay beyond "good friendship". They were dedicated to each other to literally death.

But the movie DID make sure to emphasize and "prove" that two men can be in very deep life-long love. So in some ways the movie is promoting lgbt+ or at least gay males love.

And the movie shows the exploitation of gay males is the same as the exploitation of straight women, the "rape" and "prostitution" is a common concept for both, just like it is for anyone who doesnt have the skills and desire to FIGHT.

King surely mounted the fem Clown. The king's clothes were all dishelved. The fem Clown had nowhere to go, his life was at stake AND his troupe and lover's life were at stake. He had to say yes, and he was used to being prostituted. He had to do it so many times before, that's how the movie started. We never saw the fem Clown tell the macho Clown though. Bc that part was not important for the message of the movie. We know that the Macho Clown KNEW.

Also, the macho Clown is not put down as a "lesser man" bc he loves another man. THe macho Clown is a very confident and strong and smart person and we get to like him. And the fem Clown is very gentle and meek and obedient so we get to sympathize with him two. And the two of them communicate. How they agreed to leave after the Fem said they just do one more show and then leave. How they stood for each other. How they fought, how they won the fights. The fem Clown got violent when he was going to be left. They were a great example of a successfully married couple.

So yeah this movie advocates for gay people as "humans" like everyone else.

Also, the movie made sure not to alienate us and kept it "fun" and did not show the very end, only hinted by the fan flying away. Both Clowns must have died on that rope, as nobles hated them and surely killed them on that day. Hopefully. Hopefully they didnt torture them. But at least we know Clowns got happy in Heaven and will come back as Clowns.

And also we are SURE that the two Clowns loved each other so deeply to the point that they could not live one without the other. So the scene of fem Clown getting up on the rope knowing he will be killed and asking the macho Clown how they shall reincarnate .... was a planted scene to show deep deep love and also to advocate gay love as deep and to gain "good points" socially for gay love.

The bigger issues addressed in this movie are REALLY BIG ISSUES about what art is, society, politics, identity, free speech, corruption, rich vs poor, love, dedication, communication, integrity, fight for freedom, social injusctice and class system, hatred towards gay, corruption, entitlement, etc. TONS OF REALLY HEAVY STUFF. And as a real jester, all that was couched in sex and poop jokes and great costuming and dancing :) so it was easier to take in :)

Overly fluffy, slapstic rom-com that ends up as a mature marriage

I persevered until the end of the Potato Lab and the end of ep 11 and ep 12 were a total U-turn and had some REALLY DEEP MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS AND RELATIONSHIP between ML and FL. It was done ah so perfectly. They matched!!!!!! At the end, it was GENUINELY AND HONESTLY a perfect marriage between two people deeply committed in love.

Look up the scene where they are stuck in the freezer and she tells him how to handle her. And the scene where they got into his bed and she can't proceed and he helps her, or the scene where he opens the door to her brother kicking him out.

ML and FLwere just two hopeless immature losers and the kdrama didnt change them overnight.... we saw the process of self reflection and trying harder.... and they just started communicating honestly, and it was totally totally magical.

Due to their efforts, suddenly a lifelong pair of lovebirds emerged, a perfect couple.

and yeah the episodes before that were ... cheesy. So hollywoody meaningless shocking cheesy

About first half of the episodes made me think this was just a fluffy slapstick rom-com for youngsters full of hormones. The ML and FL are in their 30s but they behave like middle school at best. Initially, ML and FL are REALLY immature, wounded, confused, they do not know how they feel or what they want. They are on automatic pilot, totally oblivious to their inner workings and confused when they feel something that they think they shouldn't. They cannot communicate. So the first half was so boring to watch...... The acting wasnt great either and the story was often ... well... shallow.
Also, the second pair, the friend and brother, imo were cheesy and boring. I felt like I was watching some cheap Hollywood movie. Yeah I am sorry to say that. I do not watch Hollywood movies and I watch 99% kdramas. So when I first started watching this one, the only thing I could think of was that Netflix was KILLING the kdrama concept and value. I kept watching bc I had to destress from some heavy dark ugly legal stuff and the overall vibe of this kdrama is positive and upbeat, there are really nice small-town relationships, nice nature, and the characters were actively trying to accomplish something and were overall happy and upbeat healthy people, so I was benefiting from that and kept watching.

It was a pleasant surprise that the last several episodes made it very meaningful because ML and FL started communicating and ended up as a pair of true lovebirds, a real marriage, a real love relationship of understanding, communcation and cooperation. THEY GREW UP enough to pull it off. and showed a very nice yin-yang blend of feminine and masculine attributes. I was impressed.

The pairing was a hot angry loud drunkard loser who suffered a lot from others, and a robotic greedy cold corporate dude. I didnt quite appreciate their acting. His was more real than hers. Both are good looking and the drama had a positive upbeat vibe, so bad acting wasnt detrimental LOL I remember her bc she is so pretty and vivid, animated. He is pretty too but his role was so flat and grumpy, too simple, so imo he did not shine as much as he could have. He is a good actor, how he acted admitting her he harmed her, etc is very memorable acting, so real. Sp show him off more. He doesnt have to be a shallow handsome cold person in a suit for most of the drama...

The drama started with very simple and rather crude humor and slapstick ... we have two people pulled in by hormones and trying to hide it....... and then the plot is about them trying to fight it, outwit each other, harm each other, etc. THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PLOT.

and then ... it totally changed... when he started showing his deeper side and she spoke up. I think the turning point is when he helps her to handle the rain blowing the greenhouse covers.

Then the real turning point was when she came out and admitted how she felt.... the scene in the freezer where she TEACHES HIM how to handle her and what she wants, where she EXPLAINS to him how she feels and what she needs. She taught him emotional intelligence and TOLD HIM how to treat her. AND HE RESPONDED and did treat her properly, even better than she asked for. HE UNDERSTOOD HER. He spoke back to her and it was clear he understood. Bc she explained herself to him. To his credit, he followed up on it.

So they became a perfect pair, their shortcomings suddenly were perfect matching pieces. His RATIONAL COLD LOGICAL approach suddenly was 100% appropriate because it enabled her to say all the emotions and then he could respond rationally and calm her down and then two of them together would "go" places, like the scene in his bed.

So that level of maturity was impressive. Also, from the point of the story, it was totally impressive how they matched. His cold rational skills became a stable foundation of his total dedication to her, where he rationally, with care and protection, was able to speak to her, to relate to her, and to treat her with utmost TLC, giving her exactly what she needed and helping her to feel safe and loved.
And she, as overly emotional and coarsely rude, showed her finest emotional ability to EXPLAIN in words to him what is going on and how he should react to it in the best way to her, and led them to a land of a real relationship. He accepted it, that is his contribution. THEY WERE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE, in words and in action and in energy.

The scene in the frezer and the scene in his bed are STELLAR 100% wonderful relationship communication.

I think the most comical scene is when they re-hooked up and he comes out in the black robe and rationally answers questions to the guy evicting him. Or how he related to her when she came to his bed.

So everything that looked fluffy and over-the-top exaggerated and shallow, gradually built to become a piece in a very nice looking overall picture. The two of them MATCHED with their personality and traits and ways of doing things, and were there for each other. THEY COMMUNICATED CLEARLY. And it was fun to see their own particular flavor of communication.

So this drama ends on a note that is deeply satisfying, a very warm, solid, reliable relationship, a marriage, human and humane note, and a lifelong love in a very positive, solid, reliable, sophisticated, mature way. By the end of the kdrama, ML and FL demonstrated HOW you can achieve it. Both were closed and scared human beings, ................. and EVENTUALLY bc of their love, both understood the deeper requirements of human condition and relationships, and both took steps to make it happen. They had arguments and fallouts and always cleared it out and came back together ON THEIR OWN. THis kdrama is not about them meeting by chance somewhere or friends rehooking them. EVerything good that happened in their relationship, happened bc ML and FL were mature enough to think it through , self observe, self correct, and step forward towards the other to fix the mess they caused. IT was very inspiring and positive.

The two of them end on the note of a very solid marriage. I dont think he was happy to be a landlord though, so I can see him getting a more corporate job soon :)

THe underlying story is about accepting ourselves and living our life as we are, creating good karma, and about having loving clear productive family and personal relationships.

So that message that it is possible to pull it off if you try, properly :) and clearly, and bravely, was the message that was so powerful and so warm and educational. I started watching this bc there was nothing else to watch and it was boring at first but by the end, I felt good about watching it. IT LEFT A WARM FEELING IN MY HEART. It showed what is possible if you try properly.

Cheap trashy SOAPY soap dangerous fantasy for teenagers

OK..... teenagers love "interesting" stuff but this kdrama is plain DANGEROUS, as it portrays some scary and dangerous things that are not to be meddled with. This is beyond Hogwarts and into the realm of soemthing super creepy and infectiously dangerous.

There are much more high quality fantasy stories for teenagers, like Twinkling Watermellon etc

Here we have the FL talking with puckered lips and affectionating yet chasing life or death situations
and the dude not acting much, yeah he is handsome but he is more handsome when he smiles and talks etc when he is more ALIVE
ML is acually more fun as the evil deity. And FL too...

The plot is the cheesiest possible soapy soap - so many twists and turns that are .... makjang to the max...and worse.... all kinds of curses and ghosts etc
and the soap of love loyalty betrayal etc

fascinatingly flasy trashy hodge podge that doesnt lead anywhere nor improves anything.

Actually ... this is exactly like Harry Potter stories. Lots of stuff happens and actually nothing important happens. IT IS TRASH CONTENT

Yeah if you are a teenager you might like it but this is not a quality teenage drama

And just one word of warning, this drama exposes you to some images and concepts that you should not be fooling around with. It is actually quite dangerous. Like ... ojiba board or something. DO NOT MEDDLE WHERE YOU SHOULD NOT

Really fun, showing deeper issues through comical lens

The camera work in this drama is amazing. Such great angles. It is visually stunning.

In this drama, the food is one of the lead characters and takes a LOT of screen time, so there is not much time left for the actual story and character development, and there are just plenty events and competitions but not deep inner work.

The show is light and hilarious bc FL is so comical - her 21st century thinking, speech and actions are just HILARIOUS, and ML bounces her humor very well so far....
ML enjoys this role and it is a great role for him, he is perfect for this role bc he is so bouncy, rowdy, innocent yet a serial killer LOL and looks awesome in all that regalia and without it :) and all the horse ridings etc .

The story really is about very deep stuff, how he will reconcile his personal tragedy and not take it on the whole country, .... but the angle to approach it is comical and rowdy so far..... as the FL navigates the scene to figure out where the heck she landed...

ML and FL are an excellent pair and really make this work. Even dead serious scenes of him basically killing and maiming people bc he wants to - are made to seem lighter bc of the underlying comical note.

The overall vibe is bubbly and alive and actually based on love and care between the leads and their friends.

The twists are amazing

So ... watch it as a fun thing and dont expect too much.
There is sexism and tropes etc etc etc but it is overall fun and very warm and actually deep

Just watch and I think something will appear :) And it will :) THis is actually quite deep under the pretense of being comical

If you want something more obviously deep and more obviously meaningful and familiar yet really fun, I recommend My Troublesome Star currently airing///

The filming for Bon Apetit is amazing, the angles etc are so cool .
The story is a twist on the old trope of a cruel cold ML with a traumatic past, who gets softened by the caring FL. But there is a twist here. The cruel ML immediately shows the weak, soft and caring side . Dragging him on that rope and feeding him was hilarious. And the FL is competent. And the sexism is softened by the HUMOR that she brings as the story is told from the comical point of 21st century - ....

but..... the reality is, the dude is a serial killer. Very cute and sexy buff, but a serial killer and also with that female villain as his chick who had him wrapped around her finger. Brrrr... murderers. And the crazy thing - she reminds him of his mom. Some serious crazy.

So yeah we can say the drama is fun and it is, it is tragicomical from one perspective, but it is chilling actually. Scenes where she has to kiss his royal as@ to avoid torture and death are not funny at all.

It really reminds me of Boys Over Flowers, a psychotic violent wealthy ML who uses the FL as a personal psychiatric nurse and babysitter. That drama was really for a psych ward.
This drama is the SAME concept, but it takes it much lighter and makes it fun, partially bc the ML was shown in vulnerable situations too and as someone who cares, and bc the FL is shown as an independent adult, confident and capable.

But the fact is... he owns her as the king... and so he takes liberties that are ... hm... sketchy. For example, he basically raped her (grabbed her arm, yanked her down and started the handiworks as she brought him dinner).... tried to kill her so many times... etc etc etc

I think th most fun is her bossing him around and he has to eat it in spite of all his entitlements .... and of course, his caring for her after all. But it is like ... a shark likes you... and will not eat it now but later..LOL . Hopefully he transforms fast...

----
Technicalities:
The ML is perfect for this role bc of his facial features that make him look scary if filmed from above and bc of his strong physique and vitality, and his wickedly great sense of humor and having fun. He is really having fun with this role. And I think he is a lot better choice than the original actor, who is more mellow and would be too mellow for this very physical. chaotic rowdy fun rom com.

This drama has dramatic overstated acting and imo is in essence makkang drama. CHAOS acting :) And bc it is historical drama, thre are many moments where he acts stuff and wooden, and he speaks not in normal language but in this formal speech that sounds almost like yelling

In other words, less text to remember, less emotions to act, less subtleties to act, and less time on screen
Bc the food and cooking takes a considerable time on the screen, it is a "lead actor" that gets more screen time than ML and FL, so the human actors have less to act...

In this drama, he is a pretentious jerk / control freak and so his entries are very dramatic and he has to look " impressive" - then he dips into being a softie - so he swings in a huge range of expressions, but nothing is deep and held for too long.... he might like acting that better. After all the actor has to have fun.

This drama caught my attention with filming - the scenes and camera angles are amazing and make it so fun. I noticed that the actors do not get too much of camera time, so you see face for a second or so.

In a more psychological drama, e.g. Crushology 101, the actors get a LOT of closeup time on the screen in one shot, the camera stays on them - for example, 2 people talking for a while... so the actor has to be able to hold their role for several minutes and shine in it. That;s a lot harder than a minute in this drama where he throws dishes out and tries to kill someone LOL

THe Bon Apetit drama is more based on jazzy scenes and very dramatic short entries.
HOWEVER, then it is 100000% crucial to do those short scenes with extreme intensity and precision, and not be too subtle but show the "gig" precisely and clearly, to almost overdo it, for example, rolling your eyes, or whatever - it is exaggarated.
This drama also requires fantastic COMEDIAN skillZ, in very visible ways.
This drama also requires a great swing from being a cruel serial killer to being someone crying for his mother or caring for FL.
The contrasts are soooo huge. And he has to act every extreme extremely :) it is so dramatic.
So this is a role in theater, maybe, where you are so far from audience so you exaggerate your acting

Also in this drama he has costuming to his advantage, he is half naked in his bedroom quite often, so he can show off more. Then what he is wearing is also more flashy and makes you look at him, and he is good looking.
Also, this drama is more dramatic, in ep 4 he essentially raped FL, she had to come there and stay there and not get up and run, like it or not...

Disclaimer: I have NEVER studied film but this is what I see as a lay person.

A jester movie. Often slapstic funny but overall deep social commentary

There were only 4 episodes so far.
This kdrama is definitely influenced by Hollywood and ... hm... I think Netflix is killing kdramas. The Hollywoody traits include that fast supposedly smart and witty conversation that just keeps rolling too fast (and the subtitles flash so fast, you can't read them), and exaggerated body language.

On the plus side, there are some pretty deep messages in this kdrama. Divorce *is* a disaster and it *can* be prevented with all those actions they mention in the drama.
This is a jester kdrama. It talks about some really deep stuff by using slapstic humor.
Acting is ... well... not always realistic but more exaggerated... to create that jester feel. I understand why it is done that way but I don't enjoy seeing it :)

I love the funny twists on the classic kdrama tropes like tripping over to fall onto each other LOL that was so comical, that whole scene of the hood watching... There are many slapsticky scenes like that.
There are also many surprising scenes that take you into DEPTH, suddenly, by surprise. It starts as a fluffy nothing and ends up as a very deep human scene. Like... knitting scene - IF YOU THINK I AM LAUGHING AT YOU, YOU ARE INSECURE. Being easily offended is inferiority complex. Or the scene in the video game store where he tells her to give him 24 business hours notice and she agrees. Or the scene where the nun says that people cave in to societal pressure and give up their dreams bc they are aftaid of being criticized... Or scene where they say that marriage and divorce are both measures taken for self happiness... The AI testing and the questions are sooooo .... wickedly accurate LOL
His exes are definitely wild cards :) Never expected those LOL
It is nice to see the twists, the first ex is so rational but her rationality makes rational decisions that are good decisions since she is impartial.. and so the stereotype of rationality is broken. Although seems like she will soon be a villain.

So yeah, this kdrama can be watched on any level you want. You can focus on slapstic comedy and the antics of the teamleader (I saw him as a gay manager in Strong Bon Sun so I am impressed with his comedian skills), or you can watch it as a rom com, or as a crash course in insurance LOL or a deep social commentary, or a crash course in marriage and divorce, or whatever.
In any case, the kdrama explores the epidemics of divorces in Korea and how that shatters the fabric of the traditional culture and society and where it could lead

One of the team members is in Heo's diner. Overthere she is an excellent actress and makes that kdrama totally real and shiney and amazing bc she is soo good in being conflicted, sarcastic, gloomy, and only secretly affectionate. Here... her acting is hm... not really.
It is fun to see the gloomy and flat and boring Grim Reaper show some spunk and life. LOL

Fast paced and interesting, although the plot is not new. This will defeat cheap verticals

This has so many tricks we saw before - the rich family being exploited for their money, and all the power and money games - but STILL it is a brand new UNIQUE story and it is interesting. I have NEVER watched a 100 episode drama like Cinderella Games etc. This is my first and I am enjoying it :)

The pace is fast so it is interesting. Things keep happening. 30 mins episode 5 times per week is cool. I rather watch all of it at once at the end of the week and this doesnt require too much time.
The acting is pretty good. ML actor is the only one that needs to stop pretending he is acting and gets into acting AS IF it is for real.

On the BIG scale of things: I saw Chinese vertical short dramas and movies and I was really concerned about it bc it is total kitch, the acting and the stories are just cheap. Something to stare at on your cell phone while you are taking the subway home, kinda thing.
So I was worried about kdramas, what if the cheap stuff takes over... ??? people can be stupid. WOULD they watch that cheap trash and not watch something higher quality... ???.

However, after seeing this series, I am feeling encouraged and hopeful
I predict that this will stand as a formidable opponent to verticals.

BECAUSE nothing can replace a GOOD story with GOOD acting

and imo nobody else at the moment has good stories, acting, messages, etc as kdramas, K-art is the best in terms of story, warmth, growth, messages, acting, the whole nine yard, the best STORYTELLING of it all, the most sophisticated, classy, interesting, and uplifting.

so I cheer kdramas on into the global victory.

And btw.... Do NOT lose "Koreanness"

e.g the granma in pink here has 1 kg white powder on her face to make her face look white, and FL looks like she has lived in a grave somewhere... so pale.

DONT DO IT. it is racist to expect ppl to look white. I understand going after American advertising $$$$ so why not some pale faces LOL but do not overdo it. Dont try to look Western etc. Look like yourself. One thing to learn from the West though is nice healthy white teeth :) I suggest copying that :) For good health .. And everything else...... well .... be yourself.

Do not become sell yourself to the devil to go after those $$$$ because then you are not gonna be watched as much bc then it is all same all same and then there is LOSS of the CREATIVITY that kdramas and only kdramas have. No other dramas do. Sometimes Thailand might come up with something, like "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" but ... it is hit or miss. whereas, MOST kdramas and kmovies will turn out nice and will make some audiences very happy. Kdramas and kmovies are CREATIVE, UNIQUE stories with meaning and messages and certain WARMTH that no other can have.

So I am curious how this kdrama will go.

And now a deeper dive into this particular drama:
FL is a Queen in her house - she is a spoiled naive brat that has EVERYTHING - at least she thinks so and everyone else thinks so.... She is super weak and immature. ANd yeah the price for that is being naive. And being naive is suicidal for a rich person, targeted by predators. Our FL was so sheltered all her life that she hasnt learned that YET until... she fell into some traps :) NOW LETS SEE IF she climbd out of the hole she dug out for herself.

But ... did you see how her mother treats her brother? If you grow up in a family like that, what kind of twisted idiot WILL you become??? and then how will you outgrow it .... so we got 100 episodes to see how FL grows up.

I like this drama. The plot moves fast. Yeah you can tell the families are toxic and that is why everything happens, AND IT IS DRAMA MATERIAL BC THEN OUR NAIVE FL CAN FINALLY GROW UP :) and hook up with the handsome doctor... ? Will she?

THe handsome doctor is really handsome, ah the white teeth and nice smile! and he is HONEST. He will be a good partner to some good woman. Our FL when she grows up?

ALso, my learning here is that the fruit does not fall far from the tree, we can just see Grandma in pink and we know what her kids could be like... And little tiny Eun Ho KEEPS SECRETS TO HIS PARENTS... woow that is serious...

SO YEAH LETS SEE HOW FL WILL GROW UP FINALLY

just for the record. I think Cheating Husband actor is not good at acting, he clearly pretends. I think everyone else is decent.

yeah the doctor wife is a mystery, why stay there when it is so moronic, why even defend them... ??? BUT SUCH ARE TOXIC PEOPLE IN TOXIC FAMILIES. THis kdrama is hopefully about clearing up all that gook. If it were to just show us toxic people in toxic families doing toxic things forever then we might as well watch Kardashians or Dynasty or something like that, which I would NEVER watch.

I am watching this to see HOW the stupid FL will get smarter and become more mature and wiser, deeper, stronger, better person.

FL is already kind. But she is sheltered and naive, so her kindness does not count. Real kindness is when you have MET the evil and suffering AND YOU ARE STILL KIND. Our FL has not met any darkness inside her or others YET. But she is going to.... starting to :) IT WILL EITHER MAKE HER OR BREAK HER

We got to see how it broke her :) Yeah scenes of answering phone to kidnappers are pathetically self centered egostical .... the "mom" cannot even stay present to save her child... BUT AT THE VERY START, FL IS JUST A CHILD HERSELF :) selfish naive kind delusional child..

and we are here to cheer her on in her fight to grow up. This is kinda modern version of gladiator games LOL Storytelling is always like that... cheering the little meek week immature people to become better human beings....

WRITTEN AFTER EP 40:
This is a very engaging kdrama. I was analyzing WHY. I think it is filmed very well. The angles, the cut, etc, it flows, it is done well. I think the acting is great. Even the obviously-pretending ML actor has improved. Oh yeag thre is one more, the drunkard Dr's husband, he also exaggarates but ... its ok. There are some seriously good actors in there, and all characters seem REAL.
I think technically this filming moves between some heavy duty makjang drama with overdoing and exaggeration AND ALSO some quiet deep serious acting, so the mix is very interesting and even the makjang characters seem real because they "fit." Like MIL. That is an excellent actres and her makjang character adds spice and reality, she is just a prick character. She is actually one of the stars of the show, she is the big mouth and pulling hair character, not to mention her wardrobe :) nouveau riche amazing pieces of fashion :) There are other makjang characters who arent such great actors, like her son, but it is ok. THere are other sorta kinda makjang characters done by not so great actors like Seong Wo or or the Little Grandpa, but it doesnt matter, it "passes" it is good enough and hopefully they improve the "realness" of it. And other smaller makjang characters done very well by great makjang acting that makes the character look real, a real brat LOL, like MIL's daughter.

Then there are very deep serious characters done super well by very fine and detailed acting, by actors who make it REAL, it is like you are watching a scene from real life, like Dr's father, or Aunt, or Ms. Lucifer Se Ri, or both Doctors. etc.

And the music I think is good. Unfortunately I watch often at night so have to keep the volume down and so I am sure I miss a lot of music, but the little I hear, was fitting well.

Overall, it looks convincing, we are watching PEOPLE living their lives, not actors on stage, and the scenes are picked so that the story MOVES ALONG, so it is very interesting to watch.

Also, to me personally this is interesting bc FL character is growing up, she is less and less a clutz and more and more someone who takes care of herself and contributes. That is a positive and uplifting message to see characters growing. The drama has a general message of healing and growth, and a genuine and organic growth of the relationship betwen the doctor and FL where they are becoming a team of equals working very well together in a very strong bond with good communication.

Then the tug between desires for "war and revenge" like Uncle versus objectivity, healing, forgiveness, love, like Dr and his mom,
the clash and rift in the criminal section as the criminals discover how they are backstabbing each other behind each other's back LOL
the clumzy attempts and learning at first and then trying and getting smarter by the "good guys" who are so naive and so inexperienced but keep trying... and sometimes succeed in small ways, sometimes try something uselss, sometimes are not carefull, etc... but keep moving on, somehow... bc they keep trying...
and so on, the RIFTS AND CLASHES AND CONTRASTS that keep toying and tugging and creating the story

The plot made out of female stupidity and/or ANIO!!! lack of communication is the most boring plot. Well, except amnesia LOL THere is plenty of great plot to be made by incorporating solving real problems and using good communication.

So this drama is rather low on the boring plot, DOES have interesting plot, and it is filmed well, acted well, and has good music.
The DETAILS are so well scripted so missing just a minute in utmost attention can make you lose a ton of information, so you WATCH carefully :)
FOr example the scene when Dr takes MsDumb out of the psych ward and they run holding hands and she looks at him. That ONE SECOND is so critical to understand that he has already fallen in love and that she noticed him for the first time as a man. And then nothing happens between them for a long time .... it is already ep 40 and there is nothing romantic EXCEPT that she noticed when he put bandaids on her... so... this growing feeling is growing that they are closer and closer on a very deep level. And it started with that run, that scene of 1 second.

Then there are other super important and rather short scenes, like when he tells her to stay to get punished by serving them... and the next scene, she DOES serve them... So there are zillions of very short important scenes that buld up to tell the story that is a really big story. WELL DONE!!!!!

The script is good That is what I should have said already :)
So the script, the filming, the acting, the music, all together, you get a very interesting drama. I am enjoying watching it. I am not a 100-episodes drama person LOL this is my first one :) If something is good, I will watch it. I do love 50-episodes dramas, actually :) and watched quite a few of those. I will watch if it is good. I watched Haunted Palace although I never watch horror. It was worth watching it for other things and I fast forwarded through horror scenes

There is another drama "woman who swallowed the sun" that has a good story but it is not filmed so well and not acted so well, so it is not so interesting to watch. I was thinking a lot why this drama is much more interesting. These are my conclusions so far.

OMG what a gem!!!! a classic kdrama masterpiece! so fun, so wickedly twisty, so heartwarming

This is s a gem!!!! one of kdrama masterpiece classics!!!

the script is WICKED :) such good twists .... sooooo funny....
and the cast is amazing! Such amazing acting!!! The Detective older version actor is AMAZING
and the older FL is ... over the top but for a good reason.... and also she is very wise and capable do not understimate her :) Her looks are there to totally trick you...

and the younger ML/FL are also great actors

and everyone else is acting super good and it is just incredible.

Wonderful story

So fun :)

This is one of the shows to REWATCH .... it is sooo .. wow... sooooo .... tricky and ... so fun

AND THE MUSIC IS PHENOMENAL

SO KEEP PAYING ATTENTION there is a lot in this. I realize the script is so wickedly clever that you get totally duped into believing things which you shouldnt believe, and then later it is like omg ..... !
CHEERS TO THIS SCRIPT WRITER!

=====
I keep rewatching the moment the Detective and Fuzzy meet at the very start of ep 4. He is an AMAZING actor. his eyes!!!!! his body language!!!!! he is an ***IMPRESSIVELY amazing actor**** and he is also very beautiful, such smart eyes, he really makes scenes come alive

To be honest at first I felt annoyed with his very thin hair, which makes him look very ... run down... but I realized it just shows how he is an "ordinary person". I wonder what the actor's real hair looks like. I was also annoyed at first with FL thick plastic surgery lips and mascara making her look like ... someone from the west ... and her lousiness which made me think this is old stype sexist kdrama with a loser FL

Only later when I saw her scenes working in the kitchen, and scenes changing her mind to act and dupe the police, did I realize that FL was a very strong, smart and capable character and that all her silly behavior was a camouflage, a trap for us audience, to catch us by surprise :)

The scene where he saves her from the lead that keeps hitting her and the talk between two of them is an AMAZING scene of a true partnership

I was IMPRESSED!!!!! I am impressed! Now I will have to rewatch bc I realize that I missed so much

The acting is so good! and the script is WICKEDLY funky, this is one drama I will rewatch .... and I never rewatch!

I wish this drama was longer bc it is so excellent

The FL is a great actress but acts over the top and is masqueraded in that silly look, bc the script made her do that.
I think the script is a parody on Park Do Ra in Beaty and Mr Romantic when she had an accident and came back looking weird and behaving over the top
So the contrast when she becomes In Se Ra again will be really obvious

Overall this is a really really fun kdrama

CHEERS TO THE AMAZING SCRIPT WRITER AND THE AMAZING CAST!!!!
This is truely a true kdrama gem

------ written after ep 7 ----

O M G FL actress coming out of her camouflage and acting full on... I am IMPRESSED. THat is one awesome amazing actress!!!!

The Detective was cute and I love his scenes but he is not as great magnificent as she is, acting wise. He in fact is phenomenal for close up love dovey scenes. He is not good for acting harsh or worried etc scenes

She is ... wow ... what a range of acting!!!!! and the FL character - she is a very strong and wise woman ...

I bow to the Queen

It is story about losers and so it is boring to watch

The two sisters are .. well... losers. Both are very faulty and not making any progress... There is some self reflection but not enough at all. They keep doing dumb selfish things. .

This drama lacks COMMUNICATION. Perhaps it will happen later but so far has not happened and I am on ep 4. It does not look it will ever happen.
The overall vibe is ... hopeless isolation...

For example, the twin sisters switched places, but they are NOT calling each other to ask how to grow strawberries or answer corporate things...

and the stupid corporate pion is trying to "do her job" in very vile dirty work
and the farm person has not done anything about farming

I dont like their lying to people straight to their faces, etc

It is not funny, it is not charming, ... it is not smart, it is not cool, ... it is not funny or witty ...

There are some realizations like "hey I did not know my sister" but there is NO ACTION whatsover to correct that.

The drama is really about 2 selfish young women who are living their lives just to scoot by, without any dreams or striving, ...

and so... it is utterly boring
