In the early episodes, the moment he said she will like him one day when his fox sidekick told him she was into her husband, I knew this friendship would not end well.
But honestly, I would I have preferred a romance between him and the fox lady than him obsessing over FL.

He was actually forcing her. First, he refused to tell her where he find the cure, knowing well she would decline it, he had to immobilize her and force her to drink it.
Now, he did this to save her, there is no discussing that. But, was it from pure intent? No. He forced a promise out of her, trying getting close to her even if she was showing obvious discomfort. He is only doing this to have her liking him, even if he already knows she is entangled with someone else. And now, spoiler if you have not watched past 27, he has the gal to feel hurt when realizing she will never see him more than a brother, and his turning full vilain just to , his demons s words, " possess " her.

They met around the time when Mo QiBai was defeated ( he helped her when a random man wanted to bully her because of her spiritual veins), then she mentioned him again when she was drunk from drinking with FL and the princess, saying he wouldn't reply properly to her letters, implying they were together at this stage. Anyway he is kind of sus.

Honestly, I don't feel any sympathies for Situ ling on his path into the darkness ( which he seems to be taken up to ep27 where I am so far). Almost all the characters is the drama had been having it rough. We have a male lead that spent a major part of his life in prison, being turtured beyond descriptions along with fellow prisoners; a female lead who have been living most of her life in lies and deceits, walking in her real identities only to protect herself because her false identity is in danger ( and betrayed by her own kind); a princess who have been fighting for her father and country, even without holding any real power and seeing her doom at sight; the physician with lowly status torn between ambition and righteousness; and even Mu Qibai and his faithful men, even if there are despicable people, did what they did with clear conscience ( that they did not even have), and standing unapologetically on their ground.
Situ ling s descent to the realm of tragic vilains although is understandable, doesn't really stir any emotions to me, because too much people there could have choose to walk in this path in a way or another, but choose the greater picture instead.

Currently watching. Love him and his father the most so far. I am in mid journey in the drama, but the actor playing the marquis has this aura that make you really admire, fear, and hate the character at the same time .

Shamefully following her arc here. Going from despising her, calling her dumb, likinh her, calling her dumb, feeling pity for her, calling her dumb, to despising her again

Lol she always finds a way to annoy the heck out of everyone ( specially her husband). I was liking her arc when she left her country and was backing up her husband and bear humiliations with him while standing up for him, but she had to pull out the "sleep with me just once" card. Now the poor man has to loath his return to his own inner chambers lol.

He was just checking he.was really unconscious before spilling his guts to him lol.

Man is a snake..he knows if he show too much interest in the throne his brother will give him harder time. And since he seems to have not build his political power in the court yet( I think he was a general inn the border since his brother took the throne), he has to keep low profile.

I think the drama did a clear job at saying what the empress though, even if it was the emperor s point of view. And we can't expect a man who had slayed his way up to power through scheming bloodbath to be a loving and wise father. Not if he is ambitious and is convinced the way he is ruling is working just fine. It is the law of action and reaction. It's not really about being good or bad, but how the actions the couple made individually had helped the situation to be where it is.

But the wife did not apply the best method, In my opinion. She is fierce, brave, yet not wise enough to see the outcome. She is the empress, and her son is bound to be crown prince. Even if she is strong-willed, do we really thought she would have a way out with her children? Yes she had to make a move with the changes she saw with her husband. And if fleeing away was the best outcome she saw , she then had to be prepared to be branded as treacherous, and will be chased till they got her children back. The game of power is no playground. When you step in, you have to carefully and wisely maneuver to not loose your life for anything.

The problem is that his surrounding did not change, or get worse. When you step into the game of powers, there is almost no turning back or stepping down. Even if he had won the throne, married the woman he loved, and had 2 great children, the power dynamic around him did not change, if not, because of his new situation, made the schemings of ambitious ministers worse. It is evolve or die. So I completely understand him. It's easier to shut your heart to going on, than retract on wishful thinkings, and see the empire you build crumble down. I guess he made too much sacrifices in the past to let the love for his family gets in his way. But I am sure he will get the Karma he deserves, as he is bound to die and see the very works of his hands being destroyed.

He sacrificed the love of his life for power , so of course when the empress died he put all his scheming efforts into making the first prince a ruthless and cruel being who will take the country over him. I guess it's a consolation for him since her wife died to stop this.

She slightly changed her tactics. This time she made it to force him to repay the wish he had promised her. She came with the angle that she won't bother him again if he gave her one night to fullfil her obsession about him and let go. At some point I really thought the drama would go to that route and she will get more obsessed with him and annoying him to death.
But as far as despised her, I have to shamefully confess I am finding her new arc entertaining. She either will be the doom of the emperor or he will be hers. And considering the twits of the plot so far, I can't really see the road they will choose yet.

What I like about this drama is the level of layers they gave all the antagonists. The only one who is still despicable so far for me is the frivolous and adulterous emperor. Lol even the princess who was annoying my nerves has been doing good for me after she left her country.

Riiiiiight? I love me some ex-couple now standing on opposite sides-like Story. And the princess is my fav character so far. She is alone, weak and absolutely powerless, but she is fighting desperately with her soul for her kingdom.
