i heard the source material novel was even more angsty and had longer heartbreak. the scriptwriters actually simplified it and made it more logical for drama watchers. i think it boils down to each characters’ motivations; MY trying to protect her identity whilst being gaslit by her “mom” all the time, and JBZ trying to get sincere love when he’s never had it all his life, literally everyone has hidden agendas towards him (except for xun bobo and buxiu). yes i agree communication is key and would definitely will shorten the drama down if that happens hahaha but we want to see the push and pull of love, do we not?
