Yes, the scene was extremely emotional. And I was completely wrong about Wei's wife, she is such a great character.
You can watch more of Juniang (Sheriff Wei's wife) in their own spinoff series, it is dropping 23 Nov if I recall correctly, another commenter mentioned about this Strange Tales of Tang 3 spinoff.
They did such a great job of painting the gentry as arrogant and self-righteous, that you could easily believe…

They were both serial killers lol. How do you pardon something like that? Even if their reasoning was justified,…
Jianu hadn't killed anyone yet though. I feel like those that SWM and LLF let go hadn't committed grave crime. Like the fake sheriff Long Tai in season 2 also escaped but he didn't commit murder ('just' robbery and impersonation at most) and he also helped LLF gang to fight the treasure hunters.
Vertical drama spin-off of this is dropping tomorrow on iQIYI --Doesn't feature any of the usual STOTD leads though…
It's a little saddening because we know beforehand how Sheriff Wei would end up getting executed π but I believe in screenwriters of Strange Tales of Tang (and its spinoff). The spinoff story will also turn out good despite of Sheriff Wei's fate ππͺ
I thought so too. I like that Fugui came back to look for Qingtong before both of them disappeared together. I…
Did he really look for her soul? I'd love for this to be true. I just rewatched the scene. His spirit under the umbrella seems to suddenly meet her unconscious soul, and he said "I'm sorry I'm late".
I guess I would have loved for the script to put more effort in showing how their souls reunite, more than just a mere happenstance.
This........... nah.I blame the writers. He was happy chilling in Ep13 painting lanterns and chatting with townsfolk,…

Yeah and the end scene is a bit forcing it. There is no transition to it other than one sided monolog from Fugui. I want Qingtong to be able to say her grief too π
I feel like at least in TJOL, XQS and Tangfang relationship isn't tainted even though XQS died.
In S&B, I couldnt feel they still loved each other in the end, I just feel the resentments between them. And then their souls ended up together? Are we sure they aren't better off separated? π
I reckon you are onto something lol(Though tbf this isn't bad-- just a massive letdown of a second half after…
Yeah i was so invested in them too as a couple ππ and you elaborated so well about Qingtong arc π π I'm so sad the writers had to butcher her character like this. She was so clever when the drama started.
The first review is so right to call out all my frustrations,i deeply regret watching this drama wasting my valuable…
I feel like... my mana depletes after watching the ending π I feel robbed of my positive energy π which was not a lot to begin with lol.
The problem is, we were shown how positive and hopeful the first half of the drama was. And then BAM! we were slammed down π
I feel sorry for the main casts. They all put their best effort in this drama, and idk but the rumor is that the script was changed mid production. I wish the casts get better roles, better scripts, and better producer in the future ππβ¨οΈ jiayou Chengyi and Li Yitong.
Rating went From 8.3 to 8.2 the day 26 & 27th episode aired 5 days back & stayed as 8.2 for 4 days...yesterday…
Yeah, and it is not redeemable just from Fugui's ending monolog IMHO. He said he had to and there was no other way, really? Hmpf. I feel like Qingtong deserves better than this.
And don't get me wrong, I love Cheng Yi. I just don't love how the story unfolds after Qingcheng arc til the ending.
Let's hope, "The Vendetta of An" with Cheng Yi truly comes out this December!!! β¨
I heard Vendetta of An has the same production team like Journey of Legend π₯² I hope they have learned something and would do better with Vendetta of An
I love the first part of this drama. Qingtong was so clever, dilligent, resourceful. She is such a good and pure character, it was almost inspiring. The plot was hopeful. And then the spidey bro Qingcheng story arc came, suddenly Qingtong was...not so clever anymore (?) π so weird. Plot became gloom and full of tragedy.
The ending didn't do Qingtong justice. She died sacrificing, not knowing Fugui's plan, thinking her beloved had changed into evil. Idk about how believable the scene at the very end... did suddenly everything turn alright again between them? She went back into a spider form and almost like she was being called by... her master (not partner?) Idk vibe was not romantic at all π€π
If you dont mind for a bit more of my comment π
The special episode in 41 actually is a version of the novel's ending.
They found him on a beach, like them both visiting LLH's home at the same time in the novel. LLH lives in a village with direct access to ocean at the back of the house.
When they found him on the beach, drama LLH is still sick/hasn't recovered. His layers of clothing is as thick as ever. This is same with the novel, LLH never recovered (right arm paralyzed, he can hardly see, and his questionable mental state).
We can only guess whether both drama and novel LLH still recognizes his friends or not.
In my case however, as long as he is alive, still functional, has his intelligence (so ppl cant mess with him), and most importantly he is happy - that is enough happy ending for me πͺ·π

Missing Li Lianhua, FDB, DFS, and a coherent storyline ππͺ·
