I think a lot of the older xianxia dramas have this theme. As the other commenter said- “Moonlight Mystique”…
I’ve been skipping everything but the scenes with the main leads lol 😂 So really, it’s nice to half pay attention and just tuning in when the leads are on screen 😂
Yesterday I commented my views regarding the novel and hadn't watched e6. I watched ep 6 today and I should say…
Hello! 👋🏻 I rewatched the episodes yesterday and have since changed my opinion after hearing some different thoughts on this comment thread 😊I see it very differently now.
I haven’t watched it yet, but I want to give it a try. I have a few questions: Are ML and FL equally important…
I am assuming you’re referring to my post about episode 6 from earlier 😂But both leads are important to the story. The ML did like one dumb thing in the latest episode, but he’s NOT a dumb character by any means. The FL does outwit him a lot though, I do stand by that. And I do wish that the ML stood up to her a little bit more than he is right now. But it’s not at all like most of the other dramas I’ve seen in the past year where they really do decrease / dumb down the importance of the ML to make the FL look better. This drama is not even close to the degree of the others I’ve dropped.
I wouldn't call Zhao Ling a simp. I don't think he survived the harsh smuggling world without some backbone. The…
I see what you’re saying. But it has been them against each other up until recently. The FL slandered him to the public about swindling, he was almost poisoned and lost his friendship as a result. He sneaked into her room to at least get the money back, and she outsmarted him AGAIN. After they escaped together, she ignored his warning about getting involved with that woman who was fighting for her bread. Then instead of her having any real consequences from it, the woman shows up later and offers to be her maid and then helps her escape. No significant consequences. The ML was dumb in leaving Sen alone with them (especially because the maid was a stranger, loyal to the FL supposedly and not tied up), and Sen was dumb revealing the information I mean come on. The male characters were made to be dumb in that scene, I’m sorry 😞 . The FL is fine with knocking the kid out and stealing Zhao Ling’s whole livelihood and got no consequences. Instead, she rises to the top and saves everyone. She didn’t even get scolded enough for what she did and the risks she took without even considering him. Then she shows up in prison with the audacity to threaten his life if he doesn’t go along with her plan?? And he just… is like whatever. No anger. No calling her out for forcing these things on him. No backbone. No consequences for the FL. The ML hasn’t been able to win a single fight, he has been outsmarted at almost every turn by her, and clearly it’s only the FL who is calling the shots and driving the show right now. At least that’s my perspective. I find it unbalanced.

Yeah I wasn’t calling him a simp, but just that I was getting some of those types of vibes the past couple of episodes. I would have been PISSED by the stuff that Tinyun did, such as knocking out my little brother, stealing my livelihood and making decisions about my life on my behalf. But he just goes along with it and doesn’t stand up to her, really. The relationship at this point feels a bit unbalanced. She outwit him at the street smarts (they actually dumbed him down by leaving Sen alone with them with his token I couldn’t believe it), and more than anything it was always the FL who has been outsmarting the ML since episode 1. Despite his supposed street smarts, he has never been able to get a step ahead in any sphere. 🤷🏼♀️ And when he did step in with his fight skills to get them out of messes she made or to get them out of difficult predicaments, he’s defeated every time, whereas she does impulsive things and as per the end of 6 comes out scotch free saving the day.
When he gave his little brother the token, i was like he might have a plan in the future as he might have sense…
Yes. Minglan had to rise to her status, but still had to be within the limitations for women of that time. It was so good. I finished my rewatch a couple days ago so it’s fresh in my mind lol

Yup. THE best example of how you do a female-centric drama. Minglan was AMAZING. She was allowed to have flaws, she was allowed to grow from them, she was allowed to be vulnerable and love / need her husband. And she had her TOTALLY EARNED BADASS MOMENTS. Tingye wasn’t dumbed down or made a simp, he was allowed to save her, he was allowed to cry, he was allowed to stand up to her and call her out. Ugh. They were perfect 😭
