It has the same name, Utsukushii Kare in japanese. But the manga adaptation was released recently in Japan, a few months ago, and until now only 2 chapters were released, and the manga is not translated in english yet. In other words, it wil take a while until all the chapters of the first volume ( for now) are released and translated as well, because the release of the chapters in Japan is slow. If you want to know more about the source material ( NOVEL), listening to the audio dramas is the way. The audio dramas are really faithful adaptations of the novels and the voice actors voices are similar with that of the actors from the drama. I actually think the audio dramas were used as a important reference when the drama was made. The two audio dramas released until now has people who are working in english translation for them. Yes. The actor who played the bully did a really good job, it has really made an impression on me, more than the other supporting characters. Almost all side characters have decent acting. Good BLs doesn`t try to be something that are not or imitate/ be similar with what other BLs has done previously, but try to do the best at presenting the story that it wants to tell. Semantic error is a great drama, but is not perfect, it has some weaknesses. Just like this drama, it has it`s weaknesses but at the same time it has some aspects that are handled better than Semantic error. In the end, both can be recognized as some of the best KBLs made for different reasons. I wish people try to be more objective when they rank or give a rating to the BLs they watch, but at the same time i wish they don`t look down or give a lower rating to a BL just because the story or other things are not presented in a similar fashion as other BLs they liked previously.
I decided to drop this. It`s a pity since the first 3 eps were good, the story was interesting, unique and the acting decent, but then they just have to make everything so complicated. I read the script of this drama was chosen among many others, but if this is the best, then i don`t want to imagine how others are. The story has too many coincidences going on that doesn`t add anything than to bring unecessary drama to the couple. A couple that is just at the beginning of the relationship, whose relationship is already vulnerable and shaky. Beside this, the way the lines are writed just doesn`t make sense, the way the characters react doesn`t make sense, it feels like i missed something and it makes me have a hard time continue watching. Jin Seok is too selfish, only thinks of himself, he only does things he assumes Ha Yeon will want or like based on what he thinks his first love/original Ha Yeon will do. He doesn`t even try to know the present Ha Yeon, but he acts like he knows him. His actions are also so arrogant and selfish, that just annoys the heck out of me. And Ha Yeon look like a lost puppy, like he has not personality and just does anything Jin Seok tells him to do and i have no clue why. The fact that he reacts so impulsively and just runs away when "shit hits the fan" makes him really unlikable to me too. But, i feel i can`t even blame the characters fully, because the majority of times they are forced to act the way they do because of the circumstances, because this is the way it was writed in the script, and it annoys me even more. The actors that plays Ha Yeon and Yeon Seok do aren`t really bad actors, but the lines that they have to say just makes things worse. The way Ha Yeon cries is terrible, just terrible, they should have done something about this. Yeon Seok exaggerated actions gets old quickly, it doesn`t have the same impact anymore when they are overdone like this.

I do my research very well before i decide to watch a BL, so because of this, me deciding to drop it, means the production team messed things up big time, this is all i have to say. Korean BLs keeps getting better in terms of quality, but not matter the country, not matter how good the overall quality is, the BLs that disappoint a lot should be called out,to express that we wouldn`t just accept every bad script and story they would put out there. BLs that aren`t good should be highlighted, so they will know where to improve. Things will not get better if we praise every BL that comes out from Korea just because is a korean BL. The same thing with Japan. It`s my personal opinion that the quality of the BLs from this country is just a lot better than in other asian countries, but that doesn`t mean that everything released will be good and should be praised and supported just because is a japanese BL.
This drama keeps getting better and better. I really like the way the story flows, things develops slowly, but it makes sense. It`s possible more is revealed in the future eps, but even if the story doesn`t show exactly why Tae Sung does the things he does, i can still put it all in the fact that the characters has grow up together, so he has all the time in the world to develop romantic feelings for Hae Bom. I have to say that while i was sceptical of the actors acting ability initially ( the first ep is not that memorable), Ok Jin Uk keeps getting better and better, his acting is really good. And i can feel Kang Kui effort, it looks like he really tries to get into his character. This drama really surprise me in the right way, because despite every ep having some unecessary fanservice scenes, the characters are relatable and overall the story makes sense.

No. I don`t think so, because it would make even less sense. If that would be the case, there are too many coincidences happening. If the original first love Ha Yeon ( is mentioned the first love/the girl is named Ha Yeon too) is not his destined love, then why Ha Yeon in the present also has the same name? Why Sin Bi has recognized him as him being the reincarnation of the original Ha Yeon? It was not mentioned that the first love Ha Yeon had a brother at all in Yeon Seok first life, and it don`t matter because everything makes him seem as he is Ha Yeon reincarnation. They even showed Ha Yeon doing similar gestures that the first love of Yeon Seok has done in the past. Like i would accept everything else, but why they had to made Ha Yeon sister have the same appearance as his past self, just why they had to add this conflict as well. This not even the only issue i have with the drama, because everything is rushed and the way the characters react most of the time doesn`t make sense.

Hi. Just want to say that i agree with everything you said. After watching parts of ep 5 i decided to drop/not continue watching First love again. Ep 4 was already messy, and i could intuite that i will not like what will happen in the next episode, but ep 5 made so mad, oh my god. The thing that bothers me the most is that the way the characters react just don`t make sense. Yeon Seok gets worse and worse, he is so selfish and arrogant when he doean`t have any right to be, it become too unlikable to me to continue watching. The fact that the characters act so close only after meeting for a few times, being so possesive and attached to each other just don`t make sense considering the story. There are ways to show that the characters really love each other, want to be together without being showed how much the characters spend time together, like how is the case of Sementic error, a lot of other short korean BLs made, Utsukushii kare too, but this drama showed it in a way that is just not believable. I do my reseach properly before watching a BL in the latest years, because there are just too many released nowadays that are just no worth my time watching them, so for me to drop something that i given a chance to in the first place, means that the story went downhill and everythig don`t make sense. I can`t even criticizd anything else, because even if anything else would have been done better, nothing can save a badly told story. I agree with you on Cherry blossoms after winter (CBAW) too, is growing on me as more and more eps are released. Initially i was sure i will like First love again more than CBAW, but i am shocked to discover is the opposite. CBAW just keeps getting better and better, i am surprised too since initially i thought it would be just a decent drama, but it may grow to become one of the really good BL dramas.

Hira and Kiyoi are not versatile, but Hira is indeed the top. I really like how Hira behaves when he is intimate with Kiyoi. He is a consent freak, he likes to ask for consent all the time, to the point it annoys even Kiyoi and sometimes i think he does it in purpose. He likes to prepare Kiyoi until he feels he is ready, and while he does it for Kiyoi too because he doesn`t want him to get hurt, i think his main reason is for him to be able to do it for as long as he can and you know, exactly as he wants it to. Kiyoi and Hira makes for a really refreshing couple in bed, i am amazed by them. About the kinky stuff, yes Hira is a bit kinky too. But is not related to the servant/king dynamic, because that originates from him thinking he doesn`t deserve Kiyoi and choosing to view their relationship like this because is the only way he will avoid getting hurt. But you intuited something. Hira is kinky in bed, when they get intimate. It`s not something big, like he doesn`t force KIYOI to do anything, but he is persistent in getting his way in bed if Kiyoi gives his okay for them to do it. Beside this, Hira likes to make Kiyoi cry and to see him get as vulnerable as he can while they are together, he just likes to make him cry, because he knows he is the only person Kiyoi will have that appearance with. Like i mentioned before, while he likes to make him cry and see him vulnerable, he is not aggressive in bed, but is the opposite he likes to tease the hell of Kiyoi, he teases him so much until Kiyoi can`t take it anymore. Another thing is that he is a bit of a pervert. Everyone is lol, to a certain degree, but Hira is a bit more than other people. Yes. I understand where are you coming from, thai BLs do tend to romanticize things , but trust me on this. I have seen almost all japanese BLs , they rarely romanticize things. Even in the case of Sei No Gekiyaku/Dangerous Drugs of Sex i think everything was handled well. It may not be for everyone, but i don`t think that movie romanticized anything.
