LOL what happened to the cast? Was it a rumor? I hope so, because the guy who was listed to play Xie Lian did…
Yes. The cast was added again, without an official announcement being made.
I also tought the actor who was rumoured to play Xie Lan is definitely not a good fit for how Xie Lian was described n the novel.
And his facial features are too similar with that of the actor who is rumoured to play Hua Cheng. This bothered me a bit since is better for the costar actors to have different facial features, as this works better usually.

I understand what you want to say, as some people do start to criticize actors based on things that the actors…
Yes. I know how it is, some people do cross the line and when they talk about possible actors that will possible play the characters from a really favorite novel, it feels more personal.
I feel the same about Thousand autumns too, who is my top 2 favorite novel after Silent reading, casting rumours started recently and i indeed observed i took the suggestions much more personal than i tought.
When i wrote the fact that i think some actors are fit or not for the role, or that they have or not the vibe i imagine for them to play a character, i mean this is the result of me reading the novel, and based on the discription of the novel i will think an actor would look good playing that said character or it would be awkward or just unfit.
I don`t know if is just me, but for some actors i don`t need to watch their other works or see a lot of clips of him to make an opinion, seeing some photos is enough (this is not always the case, i somehow have doubts too, and i will watch their works or other things to make a decision) .
For example, i don`t know if you read Thousand autumns, Ren Jialun was rumoured to play Shen Qiao at some point, and from the start i tought even through he is talented, he don`t fit neither Shen Qiao or Yan Wushi, and my opinion was based only on his age, appearance don`t fitting the character from the novel he was rumoured to play. This is what i was refering to. Fortunately, Ren Jialun has denied his involvement with Thousand autumns.
Anyway, even if people like or not the cast, is still possible for us to be surprised in a good way, or hopefully not in a bad way when the drama is airing. Even if people like or not the cast by watching a lot of other works the actors has done or by researching a lot about them, the end product is in the end dependent a lot of the production team too. Usually the success of a drama depend more of what happens behind the scenes/the planning, than how good the actors are or how of a god fit for the characters the actors are. The actors has to be well guided too, the director and scriptwriter are important too. I guess it has to be a balance of everything.
I think all this is happening and happened, because there is too much buzz surrounding this drama, and part of it is because the production team keep things too mysterious and are unnecessary silent. What they are doing can test fans patience, and if a lot of people aren`t content with the cast, it can backfire.
For exemple, i liked how quick was the revealing the cast of Word of honor, Silent reading, Immortality, Winner is king, Chasing the light, as when cast is revealed at short time after the drama is rumoured to be made, the fans accept the cast more easily, and are even surprised how quickly everything is handled.

yes they are still rumors so we dont have to believe them for the moment but dont start to criticize the actors,…
I understand what you want to say, as some people do start to criticize actors based on things that the actors can`t change or aren`t at fault, but expressing the fact that someone don`t think an actor fit the part of playing a character based on the way he looks only, is not criticism, is simply expressing an opinion and see if other people think the same.
Usually people make suggestions of what actors think are a good match to play certain characters based on their appearance and the works done in other dramas and movies, or express opinions that some actors aren`t fit to play certain characters all the time , and is fun seeing if things turn up as someone guessed or not.
Most people, at this stage don`t criticize the actors, but just doubting if the casting was done right, and based on how the casting turn out, deciding what kind of expectations people will have for the drama. People don`t usually criticize the actors, they are just opinions, i like reading about other people opinions too, positive or negative.
And even from the casting phase, sometime the success and failure of a drama can be predicted. For exemple, ever since a saw the casting of the drama The sleuth of ming dinasty, and a lot of others bl dramas and movies, i could tell from the start that would not be succesful and i was right.
Saying negative things about how the casting is done should be as well received as positive things, as it will made the conversations more diversified and interesting.
I wish people in mydramalist will be more open in making honest and valuable exchanges about a drama/movie, as every movie/drama has it`s strenghts and weaknesses.
When i said that the casting of Sleuth Ming Dinasty will limit the drama success i didn`t mean the drama was overall bad, when i said that i can`t see Luo Zheng as Xie Lian didn`t mean that i look down on him, or that is not a good actor, just that i don`t consider him a good match for the role. I really wish to be proven that i was wrong for me to think like this by the director in the end. This is just an initial opinion, like everyone else have probably , even if is the one confirmed, i will try to like him, and hope that the drama turn out to be good. Anyway, is not like we have a choice, but hope the casting chosen is the right one and everything will work out right.
On Eternal Faith May 27, 2021
I really hope this cast is not true, especially Luo Zheng as Xie Lian.
I am sorry, i want to have faith in the director, but appearance and vibe wise, i just can`t see him as Xie Lian. Is just, nothing of him connect with Xie Lian.
If is confirmed, then maybe having low expectation that this drama will be good will work better for me, sigh.

I find the scenes in Moon indigo especially to be much more erotic and sensual than this movie. As in Cornered cheese the sex scenes take place when they both have feelings for each other and we get to feel the attraction, so the scenes are more touching and impressing than erotic.

Yes. The movie is very good. The person i responded to previously was exagerating. Is not that explicit to the point where it had to make that question. Probably he/she didn't watched many movies who has nudity. The movie is more on the artistic side and is very touching.

Yes. At those i was refering too, No regret, Night flight, White night and other movies from that period. These movies indeed they feel they are made more as LGBTQ movies, you are right about this.

Totally agree when you said that japanese productions in general are very artistic made. I think part of it is as you said they have a lot of freedom, and from what i read this subject is studied seriously at university, and most of people who are part of making dramas and movies know they part very well.
And as you said the charm of japanese movies and dramas are showing emotions more than talking about them. The stories and characters are writed in a way that they aren`t very expressive, and even if they are, they express what they want to convey mostly by body language than words.
A good exemple of very artistic japanese productions are Cornered cheese dreams of mouse and Chugakusei Nikki, where eyes and body language talks more than thousand words.
South Korea are close, in that usually they have good enough actors wiling to play in bl and good cinematography, but they aren`t bold enough yet to write scripts who explore the relationships in a deeper level. Beside the old movies, To my star is the only drama who explored the sexuality of one of the main characters, and if the characters love each other enough to face everything together. The director of To my star is worth following to see what she will make in the future.

Yes. I also watched a lot of bl movies and series made , and i think almost all bl productions from Japan are better than what other countries are releasing.
I also enjoy watching japanese dramas and movies in general, and i think the BL movies and dramas released recently, especially Cheery magic, Life senjou no bukura, Restart after come back home, and Cornered mouse dreams of cheese, ( i also liked Sei no Gekiyaku too, even through is not for everyone, the way the topic of life, death and suicide is approached is amazing ) each present very relatable topics and situations closer to what can be found in other movies and dramas in general. They are bl productions, but they are not made differently than japanese dramas and movies in general. Japan really moved me with the releasing of great bl dramas and movies last year, it`s like they steped into a new teritory and decided to go all the way in making these bl productions including casting well known and experienced actors, i bow down to them.
I always considered the bl movies made by Japan in the past to be the best, as filming, plot wise and how professional the actors are, even if the ones casted were inexperienced, i felt they tried their best.
I think currently only South Korea can match Japan in making valuable and inspiring BLs, based on some really good bl movies made in the past and some bl webseries made now, like To my star and Where your eyes linger.
Yes, Korea have their not as good bl productions, Japan has them too, but those two countries especially Japan, (god i hope people would not subestimate this country) has the most relatable and realistic bl dramas and movies made, compared with a lot of careless, unrealistic, full of cliche and frustrating bl dramas especially that Thailand and Taiwan has.
Those two later countries, especially Thailand invest so much money and release so many BLs every year, but only about 2 dramas from 10 gets popular and are worth watching, i am so disappointed. I don`t know why they don`t try to focus in making amazing stories, than making stories that can generate buzz and make people ship the actors, and then start making money using them, sigh.
I have the feeling Taiwan is following Thailand model, as every new drama made has a more controversial and illogical plot. Hope China will wake up and make their censored dramas to be more true to the novels they adapt, as only this way the storyline will make sense more and people can relate with the couple development, even if a lot of things are not shown. If they don`t, there will not be another bl drama from China that will have the success Untamed has. I am one of the few people that was dissapointed on Word of honor, and find the way the main characters are wrote as inconsistent and some parts of the storyline a mess and confusing, since they have changed a lot of things from the novel.

Hi again. After i watched the last 2 eps i was a lot more disappointed than before of how they ended the drama and how full of fanservice without much substance those eps were.
The drama only starts to get better after LC starts to realise his feelings and pursuit MR seriously, who happens starting from the second half of the drama and after they got together, is starts dragging again. The writing is obviously lacking in this History series too, sigh. I still liked the actors who played LC and MR and the character development they have, if it weren`t for them i wouldn`t ever finish watching the drama.
The bl productions released from Japan recently, but some old one too and some of the webseries from Korea are very good. Yes Thailand has too many bad productions, so i am very picky to what i chose to watch from there only to avoid getting angry and frustrated.
From the censored dramas i liked Untamed, even with the censorship, is a wonderful adaptation, but i didn't like that much Guardian and Word of honor, and the main reason is because i hate the exageratedly changes made and how much it deviated from the novels.

Title HIStory4: Close to You Spoiler
Im a closeted gay so im curious is ther any lgbt supporters here ??? If you think this bl drama deserves a higher…
In my opinion of being a woman who is a fan of BL and LGBTQ movies and dramas from years, History series and almost all drama series from Taiwan are all a hit ot miss with the audience. They all keep adding those illogical, unrealistic and hard to ignore plots that makes people who watch BL productions as a way to learn something and making one sympathize with the characters be disappointed in some way.
Honestly, it was so many years since i watch bl movies and dramas, i can`t even pin point what it make me like to watch this genre. My opinion towards the genre and why i like it so much also changed over time.
At the start i wanted to watch something different, that feels more genuine and careful made than BG productions, who i was fed up too. Now, i come to the conclusion that the reason i persisted in watching bl productions and i still enjoy them as much as i enjoyed them at the beginnning is the unspoken and different kind of attraction in BL, tacit understanding and nuance of the relationship. Because in my case, the trials and tribulations a BL couple goes through to be together, their profound romance and their happy ending achieved through sacrifices hits harder than any BG love stories.
Since the beginning i enjoyed more the bl movies and dramas that letting aside the cliches and some flaws because of budget or the cast of the actors, has consistent and relatable stories, that try to be closer to how things are in real life or at least for the story to make sense and to be acceptable.
I saw a lot of bl productions from a lot of countries and more than half of them i think can be judged as an insult to the LGBTQ community, or i am sure can make people angry. They make me angry, i don`t know how it is for the LBGTQ members.
In the past i didn`t have a lot to chose from, so i still watched almost every bl production made, as they weren`t a lot, and as long as they weren`t extremely tragic, i still watch them, and tried to brush aside the unhealthy things those productions try to say, and take the good stuff.
Now, in recent years, the genre got more popular, more and more bl productions are made, with every country having their own style and making them more or less relatable and realistic based on what they adapt from (novels, mangas, webtoon, or original script) and what consumers they cater to.
If people want to see more realistic and logical bl productions they can chose to watch the old movies Korea has made in the past and some of the webseries they made now, and the movies and dramas Japan has made recently, or even some that Japan has made in the past, because some of them even through they were made years ago has better stories than some good stories and dramas Thailand and Taiwan has made in recent years.
If people want to see fluffly and cute bl productions who aren`t that complex and aren`t trying to present the story in a way to make an impact on the viewers or to tell a message, viewers can chose to watch bl productions from Taiwan and Thailand.
They are some exceptions, but in general bl productions made from Thailand and Taiwan, and recently some censored dramas made from China are full of fanservice ( especially Word of honor) , and the focus is not in presenting a realistic story or at least without making one rolling their eyes, but adding plots that make people like the actors that play the characters and make people ship them, and forget to criticize anything else.
I usually watch bl productions from all the countries mentioned by me, as i like to watch bl, but i am really harsh and try to express my opinion oh how some of them are uncomfortable to watch as the things they present are too hard to accept, and thus i give them a really low rating or complain about them.
I feel Thailand especially and Taiwan are really exploiting the genre to make money and try to make as many as they can, without considering the value, impact and impression these productions will have for the future generations, and the acting industry, and is sad.
They try to use the chance in making those productions without wanting to say something, to let a memorable impression, but only to make money. That`s why i am really picky to what i watch from Thailand in recent years as to not frustrate myself to watch the productions made by them only to drop them or be really disappointed.
And Taiwan is close to Thailand, their bl dramas are full of fanservice and toxic and unrealistic storylines. I think Taiwan is improving, as acting wise, and the way they are casting the actors, but story wise, i am left with loving and hating at the same time the productions they made.
I try to shut off my brain when i watch the productions from Taiwan and Thailand usually.
History 4 Close to you really has grown of me as i watched the episodes, and i tried to not take in serious the problematic personality YongJie has, as they are many people like him in this world, and to not keep me from continue watching because he basically raped Xing Si, as the matter was approached properly, they actually discussed about it, with Xing Si being mad, Yongjie apologizing etc.
I also pretended that the fujoshi girl has not influenced that much how MR and LC has started to have feelings for each other as i don` t matter that much and i found the development between MR and LC as being consistently done, and i lowered the rating of the drama, everytime something happened that i found it unnaceptable.
The things that are really unacceptable and unrealistic and left a bitter feeling to me, but it was not enough for me to drop the drama (i wouldn`t ever rewatching it though) as the acting is good, the characters are attractive and charming, and i tried to see the good things in it, was:
- the rape scene, totally unecessary, and it bring to many little changes to the relationship between YJ and XS..
-having LC actually watch MR masturbate all night, is so unrealistic, who does that OMG? Even longer that it should is messed up, slap to the head.
- the love scene between MR and LC that was turned in a joke by having MR using that lube bottle as an clue that he agree to bottom, is not cute, is cringy and it ruins the mood of the scene. I also have to mention that the love scene is not enjoyable to watch, as i feel they are acting, and not really seeing and watching each other. Also all this love scene happening because of a misunderstanding is just. I know they would have taken that step anyway, but the scene was rushed as hell.
- the last half of ep 19 and ep 20 was full of fanservice, totally unecessary and i felt it ruined he view i had of MR and LC relationship, i wished things were handled more seriously.
Yes, this drama is at it`s core not meant to be taken seriously, but the story still have to make sense and not have too many over the top moments.
Those are the reasons i rated the drama as lower as i could, but i kept in mind the matters were the drama handled things right, as the acting was good, it didn`t have too many misunderstandings, or too long of a denial phase, so it`s still not that bad as how the beginnings of History series were or how some bl dramas from Thailand are nowadays.

Yes. This was discussed before, you can scroll a bit down and read more.
Allen Ren studio denied his involvement with Thousand autumns, so he is out.
Liu Xueyi is the one that is possible that he will be in this drama, and he is in the same studio as Allen Ren and he didn`t deny the rumor.

I have to give my opinion on this too, since i find it funny, and at the same time is nice to discuss things like…
Yes, i am sure that he fact that we have different opinions clearly underlines the experiences in what a person consumes when it comes to bl and what is the predominant taste. I enjoy more movies like Cornered cheese, Sei no Gekiyaku, Life sejou no bokura, Restart after come back home ( but i also check other bl productions that catch my attention, but is not to my taste, and i am surprised sometimes) and i think deep down i wished the love scene of MR and CL was treated more seriously and i don`t know probably something didn`t connect with me.
I think the fact that Cornered cheese and in general the dramas and movies released from Japan recently resonated better with me is that most of them are based from mangas, who i read them before watching their adaptations.
I also used to read in the past mangas, not that much recently, but i read the most well known and popular, and i know very well what the movie is trying to tell.
Actually, there is a discussion thread on the page of Cornered cheese named Analysis, Insights & Info Thread *SPOILERS* as response to people who didn`t understand well the movie , you should read it. I also have some comments there, especially the first ones made, the ones from Ximy, as i changed my username recently. I am sure you would understand the movie better after reading the comments there.
