Don’t want to speculate or accuse anyone of anything of course, especially not with all the other drama surrounding LBC, but this is actually the first time I’m thinking about the author choosing the director (because I’d imagine in most instances the authors are just pleased to have their works adapted and they don’t have much say due to unequal bargaining power, which may not apply to MAME after LBC) so this is interesting to me haha

Hmm yes I think your choice of words is better. I guess because typically the one referred to as “wife” is usually adamantly opposed and repulsed by that, I associate it with being insulting . Decent first episode, but it took me a little while to get oriented lol. It felt like we were coming in, in the middle of the story and hadn’t benefited from some needed backstory, but I think it’s because the “build up” between Bon and Duen was rather quick.
Was also very amused by the following: (1) When Duen is teasing Bon about Bon being the former prom king, and Bon responds along the lines of, “Why can’t I be prom king if someone as stupid as you is studying to be a doctor.” He was so offended lmao (2) When Bon says he has to go the bathroom so he can wait for Duen by himself but all of a sudden all his friends have to pee too. No I totally agree. I definitely think there are some sexist and misogynistic undertones to those labels! If one partner is fine with it or is gender-fluid or something similar then it’s another story, but when it’s used as a put-down and insult then it becomes an issue.

Good point! (Ughh yeah I remember that from TT too). I‘m sure I’ve heard the terms being used that way in shows from other cultures too, but if I have, I don’t remember lol. But I’ve definitely heard it in more than one Thai BL, so you may be on to something! Yeah, the more I’ve seen of New’s work, the more I’m finding it to be hit or miss. I think he struck gold with LBC and how well-received it was because he seems to have picked up a lot more work since then versus before, it it doesn’t necessarily make him a brilliant director (not saying he’s terrible of course, just no Spielberg or Tarantino, though he’s sometimes hyped up to be).
I’ll be honest. Season 2 didn’t have quite that same magic for me as Season 1, but it was still really good! And having finished it, all I can say is that ENDING!! And don’t even get me STARTED on that brief, horrible scare I had in the middle of the final episode regarding the Crown Prince; y’all know what I’m mean?? Hoping they continue with a third season. The set up is definitely there.
