i think that's different like i love radiohead but i would never say they are overrated ever. or overrated in certain circumstances that makes other shows eclipsed but on a whole they are a band that does what no one else has before and they set out to innovate every time. i think that's the piece that's missing

these shows have success in the e-sphere as "underrated" gems or both e sphere and in terms of reaching internationally some of these are so popular that it doesn't live up to its name so it wouldn't be didn't like as much as others because that's not the explicit question

i mean none of these terms are concrete but i do not like goblin nor do i think it is a good piece of work and not a waste of time and energy lol issa difference

i didnt like shopping king louie as much as others but i dont have many thoughts other than "ah, i can see why people /would/ think it's overrated" since many list it as amazing with a high score. an 8+ rating is high even with manipulated stats if we feel the quality doesnt reflect the work

i go back and edit more/less stars when i really think about it because i hate "grading" so to speak without analysis and stars, raings, etc mean nothing to me without it being in depth but to me an 8 means at least it is, on its base, DECENT and that's a big feat but so many of those are....overrated . but that's because a 10 to me is IMPOSSIBLE to reach ever and an 8 is an accolade it means they went over or really stuck the landing and hit the points of what makes a work a good piece. i enjoy a horrible show or something that has a lot of flaws im not going to rate it insanely high but then i would clarify that i enjoyed it even if i rated a 4 and i have feelings around it /and/ i disagree with people that rly dislike it BUT i can see why. ya feel

for the things i haven't seen i don't dislike it (well most of them) and i can understand why they are popular but i also agree they are overhyped. what i know of untamed, the source material, what i have seen, how i feel about the story itself, the production around it etc i know that it is overrated and overhyped [to me. this is the last time i am clarifying this is my opinion]

it's honest to admit that word of mouth and popularity elevate things and so when we arrive there or are making conclusions the point of the over/under stuff—largely this doesn't matter btw and it shouldn't discourage your enjoyment only you can let that be taken away from you, we gotta deal with critique and even negativity with this stuff it's "art" or art you know it's okay—it's like come on guys admit that part of it is simply an over exaggeration of its prowess or what it is giving us via the general understanding and how it attracts viewers and how that may influence our watch with word of mouth and in ratings. and overhyped does go hand in hand with overrated and that is how anything operates nowadays word of mouth does precede critique much more now because we're used to literal fandoms taking over critique and ratings sites are skewed, people are paid to influence others with the work, the ways of gaining viewers even relies on influencing and social media, it's always been this way but this day and age and esp with the pandemic and us being more sedentary being sold stuff is at a hyper alert. people get paid to be in favor of reviews, sites aggregate in certain ways, i can go on and on.

the reason shows have, say, idols act is to gain a built-in audience to drum that up and attract people to it and that absolutely can skew the way we view it. for WOH i think it is overhyped and overrated but i disagree with a lot of people that have an issue with it with the way it used its budget. i think it should be lauded for having a "Smaller" budget (ic an only imagine how much money it was and what i would do to have that money lmao but) and looking the way it does and that's a great achievement and goes into my evaluation and rating but a lot of other stuff falls flat. or we don't want to tell people we may not have felt the same or we enjoy it more due to the feelings around it (and this is real btw you're caught up in it esp with fandom and that is a HUGE part of this and that's a negative and positive but extreme positive for capitalism soo)

there's room for nuance and for conflicting feelings (and strong ones) but anyway this is my interpretation of this question and yes a lot of times that does mean that people think something sucks but a lot of times the feelings are milder or bordering more on humorous we're not intentionally going out of our way to have people get upset since god forbid you say something against another thing that's very popular in front of a fan or on an mdl wall it's fucking mutiny which gives us noooooooooooo complex reading on the feelings in the aftermath as a lot of conflicting opinions are completely shunned or people who choose to discuss and speak their truth get hit with the negativity thing or bullying accusations or whatever....maybe this thread helps us sort that all out more. it also makes the discussion boring because we can continue to watch something and dislike it or want to see how it runs its course and while we watch people say then quite if you don't like it so basically a lot of honesty is lost which is how we end up with so much stuff that feels unfulfilling and we're surprised when we encounter more people that feel the same way. or even people that like it and feel that way or don't feel strongly. surprise! we are human and hve ranges of emotions.

and this is why critique is fun even if ppl r wrong ;)

i have no feelings about those tha ti dont watch but i know that untamed is overrated simply by the source material and the quality and what i've garnered. i dont actively dislike it or anything but i think it's worthy to admit the massive popularity plays a huge role into its standing which is the point of the overrated and overhyped exploration like i KNOW taht shit is overrated but it's all good

she shoulda beat his ass by ep 3 and didnt and for that the drama did not proceed accordingly the premise it just does not connnect and it did not make me go anything but "huh?" "girl what?" "why am i watching this?" the story building alone and how it went on makes it a problem for me and the lack of making characters that actually make sense and their actions reflecting their words.

it's ok to say acting is bad it isnt bashing they will survive. they got their money the least they can do is try harder. it's ok

they all have high ratings and failed to do what they wanted to achieve successfully, up to the rating and hype it got, or something in between lol. for what you listed i can explain exactly why we would think that. also expressing dislike is not hate that's part of being a person we're not all going to agree hence why ratings exist in the first place. clearly it is popular the point is for people to see why it wouldn't be popular to very many of those who are exposed to it. that's all. it's okay.

with goblin it's from a technical standpoint, production wise, artistically and within that includes the content and script and how it falls apart. ia with you about suspicious partners above falling apart at the end and i would say if it were super popular like these it would be overrated and for secretary kim that show made me feel absolutely nothing and i think the story, setting, script etc do not support this rating at all and i didnt even know it would be considered super hyped. iotnbo is both overhyped and rated in the core senses of the word for, again, reasons that are not just because they are popular lol i do not think that the show was honest in its portrayal, innovative, i think it showed a very abusive pattern and i think it was also too fucking blue and i hate netflix for that sometimes i can go on and on

i ask what i believe the goal of the drama was, what they intended it to be, how we interpret that as viewers domestically and abroad, online and personally, and if they were able to achieve what others believed they did as a piece of work in that genre, if they did it well and accordingly, and what were the responses that were illicited intentionally or unintentionally. for me i believe that iotnbo is completely overstated in its achievements and does not reflect the reality of what a lot of viewers believe in their love for it and i do not think the work had a clear goal or an interest in healing anything or psychology and i dont think it had anything insightful to say intentionally and the things that were extracted from others were either unintentional (IE they were not aiming for us to interpret it that way and it is a happy accident or added to the story) and it lacked authenticity and honesty which it swears it was going for. i do think production value was high and that it was glossy but i also think from a production standpoint her outfits even were a bit distracting in frames like that's how i personally come to these conclusions

nothing is a 10/10 for me ever for anything even for things i believe to be 10/10s bc no artist is ever going to think it's complete and that's okay and that's the beauty of it so in that vein everything can be oevrrated too. oh well! this is me being diplomatic tho lol cos a lot of this stuff im like it's hella whack and it deserves like not the attention it gets and it is overrated and overhyped and befuddling

i was SHOCKED at goblin bc i didnt realize that they wouldnt be the "same age" and i didn't realize he was 50590485083580 anyways but i was like ok lets wait it out but she quite literally acts like a child the whole time and sounds like one whines and pouts i was honestly so confused and shocked it was so popular she was a fucking baby. comparitively a show i love king of high school which the premise i am very against did it perfectly (it's an absurdist show anyways) bc not only are they around the same age irl they also act on the same level of their ages which makes them work. by the ep where she moves into the hotel i was in awe and i went to go see if she grows up at all she's like in her 20s when it ends right? and nope!

good point about the anime i think that would be create. with vincenzo it was the storytelling and the set up for morality. mob stuff can be hilarious even absurdist over the top satires like vincenzo was supposed to be (ish) but it just didnt work. fiery priest did it better :P but this is also how they sell the work itself lmao it took itself too seriously and didnt allow itself to play out whereas fiery priest is honest about what it is and the absurdity and makes more meaning out of that than empty destruction
