if it wasn't deployed in this way since like...modern drama's inception and SUCH a popular trope in asian dramas i wouldn't have to think about why that is. and like the user below (snow) said it takes away all that building that could be done. i find it's bc of some bizarre concept of eternal love and how love is Paramount. so it's this pattern that is constant and i think this is part of it though not the only reason. and also it is zzzzz lol
