i was reminded of koreeda and i really really really loved the trailer. i don't want to sound snobby and i know that there are so many talented thai filmmakers (case in point here and queer goat apichatpong weerasethekul—GUYS I WAS SO CLOSE TO SPELLING IT RIGHT WITHOUT LOOKING IT UP AHHHH!!!—also the DP luca guadnigno always uses (ew white man accolades but) )so pls don't take this the wrong way but i have trouble meaningfully (keyword) connecting with a lot of ql bc i just feel like often they're out of step with my idea of art and my values especially now with regards to sociopolitical economy. i tend to approach them in a consumption model (ie i want what i want now, how can i get it, and how can i demand they fix it for my tastes lmao usu bc i can tell they're trying to take my money ^_^). (that being said: the Very Close Friends is my favorite girls trope everrrr evr)

i wouldn't here and i wouldn't call this a "gl" for that reason but queer cinema yes even if she is not with a girl in the end (as a user said about its potentiality) because bisexuality does meaningfully exist and it's particularly interesting to see this in a more overtly sociopolitical story and medium. as is often hinted at, vagueness in sexuality internally and externally gets balanced with sociopolitical issues—complexity, brutality, awe-some confusing nature a of life—and that's the beauty of being able to reflect that especially on film, a political medium.

this film that is clearly inspired by koreeda and other filmmakers and films i'm sure i haven't heard of and need to...i'm very interested in what this queer thai film by a woman will say about poverty/capitalism/exploitation, the police (hopefully bad things), thailand/the state, family, and queerness. and of course i like an interest in multiple attraction (if it is indeed going there). the main actress looks extremely capable (the question to her mother...wow!) and i love to see a resentment bubbling with the Girl Who Has It All (even if you like her) because poor people do and should resent the rich. (not totally sure what happened but i'm guessing the family of the love interest got rich? somehow? "love is for people who have money" UGH SO TRUE QUEEN)

i liked this because i agree about rehabilitation (so to speak) but to add on to the comment above they get paid next to nothing and the conditions in their prison are abhorrent. they're happy they are outside because being inside is demoralizing, dehumanizing, and horrendous. they have no PPE rn either. their rehabilitation is different than this person's rehabilitation because it isn't rehab they need as that's not why prison exists.
