"don't use their trauma as an excuse" is such an important point and i think that's the problem a lot of women have with media when it comes to men. all types of characters are interesting it's IF THEY GET AWAY WITH IT and if we are supposed to interpret it as "good". no, we're not! and the show lets us see exactly why they are the way they are.
i think the "what will they do in the future?" thing you brought up is important too. i do some organizing irl and i am always thinkg of: ok we have to understand what is going on but what do we want and how do we get there? how do we use our anger as productive and not shun love?
it's his proactiveness as you outlined that is a draw, and is a draw for me—and i don't realyl have the average person's beliefs! i do love how he put in effort; my own father won't do that for my mother lmao. literally when he said in ep 6 "IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT THEN IT CHANGES" and im like OH MY GOSH lmaooooo like he will literally do what she wants. she owns him and that's crazy
idk if i'm reading this wrong but i think that in ep 6 SE's implication was that he expected her to leave him or, at the very least, live her life without him. break out from her mother and the pressures and society but she didn't do that. a testament to the show that upon my first watch i saw SE's concerns as more physical/angry; about the consequences of what she does if he ruins his chances at whatever the world wants from him and less about HJ herself! but that is not the case lmao and there's something about how much they trust each other without knowing it i cry

ok so like you said that they are twins right. but i thought that sae on's parents had biological children. so either they were given up for adoption or were adopted if that hypothesis is correct. i also thought that ji san gu played with both of them—the "evil" twin just donned the mask that day to murder the cat. sae on is having dreams where he is the brother who is being drowned but it was actually his twin (like you said) and he is thinking that it was him. maybe i read what you said wrong!
