i agree with most of what you're saying actually wrt misogyny but that's the industry (which i think shouldn't…
otoh i do prefer having sex than not. this romcom i tried to watch had this girl* getting pregnant by a dude she slept with. because she liked him so clearly she had to be punished because obviously sex = baby = fucking marriage in sk. pissed me off so bad i just stopped watching lmao. went to check in on if the main couple had kissed and yea they had but they didn't move their lips. i cannot take it anymore
i agree with most of what you're saying actually wrt misogyny but that's the industry (which i think shouldn't…
i agree with you! and don't apologize, i assumed too (also i am high lol).
i know it is so particularly fucked up in south korea. i'm really gutted about it. i am /very very very very very/ far left (emphasizing to express many would find it fringe/offputting). so many of these issues (racism and sexism) pushed me away from kpop and dramas as i begun to develop my political consciousness. the few i still kept onto... well i'm sure you have heard of what happened to taeil by now? even after i completely divested, i still had a soft spot for him. i forgot about him but the news really shook me. and i stopped watching a lot of romcoms in like 2018 bc the fucking misogyny was ANNOYING.
the ways that america and other countries enact misogyny is less overt but still there. but there's no denying that to be a woman in sk or india is a hard fucking thing (in palestine or sudan too but ykwim in using those countries). i feel like for GoT it was just too much with rape + hbo has a problem with loving seeing tits but men don't have to get naked at nearly the same rates or in the same way. like with euphoria. in euphoria's case i would say that is the ultimate show of "invalid" sex scenes if there should even be such a thing.
now i'm thinking maybe what we mean with unnecessary—for people like you and i—we simply mean narratively and sociopolitically but not objection to its existence? because people balk at that. honestly i have seen a troubling turn in the response to people's perceived puritanism; the argument has basically boiled down to: women are subjugated because we AREN'T depicted as objects. that really pisses me off and worries me. people could take your comment as one with no merit, write it off as moralizing/purity, and implicitly ask to prove that we are sexual beings and that seems to me to be set by men once afuckinggain lol.
i so agree with your last bit. i think one day we can get there. i don't like mainstream culture, celebrities, and these cultural exports/imports as soft power frighten me really. subjugation of korean women becomes normalized through the "cultural exchange" and america is all too willing to bankroll it.
i want a new world where we could show sex in all its complexities without knowing what certain messages are hidden. also your last bit in your first comment—wouldn't it be fascinating to see that with men? because the male underclass especially back then are absolutely always on the ruling class's mind incl. sexually. guess that's too advanced for them lmao
anyway i could go on lmao but yea i understand where ur coming from and largely agree (bc in a strange way the sex kinda has to be there to me) but also if you haven't seen the truth beneath you should watch it! it's so sexy and fucked up, written by a woman who is basically park chan wook's protege and she's like if pcw was a woman and didn't view sex the way a man was taught to LOL it's also a v queer movie. it's great and displays what you were talking about
do they have chemistry and will they kiss/have sex like normal ppl i cannot get into another romance drama and be left with the least sensual sexless kissing/sex described as "passion". i can't do it!! i'm done! so lmk lmao
wait i realized that this shit just started?? damn so no one can answer my question yet.....do i want to take the plunge...u__u
edit: guys...im an adult and have been watching kdramas for a very very very very long time otherwise i wouldn't have made this comment lmao. i know what they are capable of and koreans aren't like sexless freaks (or if they are celibate they are trying to change that or they choose to be that way but that is almost never a cognizant choice/way of being like asexuality). it absolutely is possible to have two people doing their job and putting their lips together and MOVE them and gosh sometimes even a tongue (omg)
Okay, this is a bit of surprise. They are STILL filming. I admit. . I was rather surprised that filming apparently…
omg i totally missed your first paragraph because i was going to ask if you were new to kdramas! but then i realized even before rereading your comment...holy shit that isn't the norm anymore...
After 4 eps, here's my opinion : - This is the first project of Jeon Jong Seo where I find her acting actually…
i agree with most of what you're saying actually wrt misogyny but that's the industry (which i think shouldn't exist so i'm not excusing it). and got's sex scenes had issues too. but it's global society not just sk lol and it's....well the fault of (currently) western imperialism which we don't discuss. along with soft power, labor, capitalism etc and i don't think the average westerner is bothered by these things the same way you or i seem to be. for some it's that they think it's immoral (gross) or need every decision to show sex to align with what they want so idk. westerners are actually very stupid. my thoughts arent concise but i'm exhausted
i read about the drama 'somebody' and i think i'd have wayyyy more issues with that but i'm not watching that. regardless, people shouldn't be hating it because of the sex itself. it should be what it means in context of everything and yours is like. one of the few critiques where it does so i can actually rock with it lol
I’ve noticed that a lot of people here are addicted to porn and calling it romance and chemistry. This show…
i hate visual porn for a specific set of reasons that i can articulate so what now? can you not distinguish the two? are you upset over labor practices, status quo portrayals for social movement reasons or are you upset because you think that simulated sex on television is a problem? for who? why should we be ashamed? am i a korean king in 100 BC with a gaggle of women and men beholden to me that i can sexually/subjugate? be so serious. i am positive that this man was even worse and weird than the show is portraying.
he rules literal human beings it's not only the sex (how he gets it, what he thinks of others he engages with) that makes him abhorrent. maybe we shouldn't enjoy humanizing and normalizing these structures but we do so let's start there before we get upset over people seeing sex on screen and liking it or thinking it adds to and/or tells a story.. this isn't like some cheap softcore erotic genre and even then who cares. not engaging in any meaningful way just casting shame on something that doesn't need to have it. addicted to porn my ass lmao.
I’m confused as to which one is episode one. The site I’m watching from did not arrange them well. Can someone…
it starts off with like a 3d model of a palace and the land over voiceover explaining what's going on. then there's a battle scene then fire then an eye.
The strong woman you mentioned was only the Queen. Other women were interested in the bed. This is the situation…
that's not really power, more of a negative power, and that's okay. we need to be clear about that lol not reify it. but it is much better (imo) to do that than to be married and there is more freedom (though a skewed sense of it)
*a woman but my aave loool

i meant something like into the ring/memorials.

the more i think about this the more i am like hmmmm this plot idk about that lmao (not abt the sex)

https://asianc.sh/queen-woo-2024-episode-2.html not the ep 1 link but i can't paste that fsr!!!
now it's 7.8 but anything above a 7 is good idk why people are so weird about ratings lol
