It's on HBO Max right now. I just checked to make sure. So, I'm prolly gonna binge watch this later and hopefully it's a fun watch. And if I'm lucky, it's a really good watch.
I kind of get people's complaints but honestly after watching Conscientious of the Mind Zhen Huan and Yi San, I'm not complaining about how old it looks. It's fine. Also her being much older is waaay weird but, hey, also waaaay better than the emperor in Zhen Huan who is old as f***. I wonder how many people were grossed out by that like they are with this?
I got to say. These two main leads have no chemistry. And the secondary male lead and her barely have chemistry. The show would okay if they all had any chemistry but it's like I feel she hates them both and girl--thats a valid feeling. Men suck. I feel for her 😂😂but I think the actress just can't act and it has nothing to do with the story.
Right? I'm hoping a good chunk of the actors I still like will be making more projects in the future but it might be interesting to see what actors will stay and which will leave.
I only know of 3 proper palace dramas. Ruyi, Yanxi Palace and Empresses in the Palace. Do you know of anymore…
(Sorry for the late reply!!)
I think it's fine if they're not entirely in the palace with harem politics. This drama could be a modern drama and if you switched out the set nothing would change: there's no etiquette, there's no court politics or a suggestion of one in the backdrop, and there's no reflection on the imperial palace or the people who live in it. But I would consider Legend of Haolan, Court Lady, The Legend of Lu Zhen, Empress Ki, The Virtuous Queen of Han, etc. . . there's a pretty long list.
**FYI I'm not saying any of these dramas are particularly great. I liked at least half of my suggestions but other people tended to like the other half.
Sorry for the late reply! They're going to start curbing the dubbed aspect of dramas. I think it has to do with companies and how they're financing certain projects, so they're going to set up a separate system where actors are going to have to pay extra/fines if they have full dubbing. To me, it sounds more like a "nationalism" push. They want actors, who may be admired for their looks and talent, to be fluent in standard mandarin.
MCs do not get together until ep 29 with 1 kiss scene then in the last ep. .ML mom dies… FL lead writes a letter…
Yeah I just finished it and none of that nonsense made sense. Had they ended the show about 10 episodes earlier the rating would be at least a point higher. It wasn't great but solid and consistent esp with pacing. Until the end. Just. Wow.
Why does it feel like I've seen this before? I know ti was just released this year but the story felt so familiar…
Yeah, I was ten minutes in and was like, "Oh is this a drama I tried watching a few years back but it wasn't translated?". Only to realize it released this year. I don't like it much either but I guess I'll see.
Not another ban but that they're going to push for actors to be able to speak standard Mandarin fluently and act too. I like this idea but I'm not sure how many actors are going to be affected. And I wrote that message when I heard about a few actors who were going to have the most difficulties.
Isn't it only two? Fake Orchid was really just a plant and then poofed.
Now that, I have no idea 😂. Maybe Orchid did it for her? But then she would have to know Jieli had lied. Or Jieli could've given her an excuse and Orchid just ignored it b/c Orchid is Orchid.
Yes but the immortals and gods are already symbols/suggestions of a greater, widely understood mythology. Like Mount Olympus. An exaggerated example would be if Zeus started fighting with nunchucks that'd be weird. But imagine if Zeus started using the 10 commandments as a basis for his ideology on top of that then we'd be confused. Greek mythology is different than Christianity. Mixing the two makes it stick out compared to the usual Greek mythos. The small differences I'm seeing in this xianxia are odd altho not distracting.
In all fairness, it does toe the line between a Wuxia with the way it treats cultivation as more of a martial skill than a "heavenly" one. Tho it's clearly a Xianxia.
exactly at when did CSS fall in love with LBY?It seemed like it was earlier on but she didnt realize/ admit it?
It was the episode when she got drunk b/c LBY was being too much at her house. She thought about how it felt when they would meet and I think that's when she realized she always liked/is attracted to him.
Question: Did you change it from Chinese to HK because. . . an HK drama is definitely Chinese. Is it about specifying what genre of television it's borne out of? Like a Hollywood and non Hollywood movie? But it's still American.
I'm already tired of Sam-Ho. For really reals, this lady made your friends life MISERABLE. I would do my due diligence but I'm not going to go out of my way to support her. She put herself into a situation be the kid who cried wolf. I can't believe her friend is the main antagonist. I get it but she's clearly not a villain.
I've been watching a whole bunch of 90s Cdramas and Kdramas that it's been a great ride. For this drama, I just wish Ruby Lin was the protagonist instead. Her storyline is a lot more interesting and involved.
I'm having trouble watching this because the Emperor looks like lint liver. WHO decided the actor who should play…
Also, she's playing the same character as the antagonist in Empresses in the Palace. I was hoping she was my gal GAO in Yanxi Palace but I mixed up my emperors. I'm only on episode 2 but I can't see these two separate acts as the same historical entity. It'd be nice if they tried to be more realistic. The sister of Nian Gengyao. . . .I doubt would be this nice a person. Just saying.
I'm having trouble watching this because the Emperor looks like lint liver. WHO decided the actor who should play the emperor KANGXI OF ALL EMPERORS to be played by someone short and super, super skinny.
