Esther Yu appearing in the middle of the drama is the weirdest thing about this drama. Everything else is well-acted, well-produced, and well-written(even though it's very difficult to ruin anything related to the Three Kingdoms era).
I'm baffled. How do people enjoy dramas where female characters are basically flower vases without depth. Rarely…
That's definitely not what happened in this drama. Each of the women characters had distinct personalities with their own plotlines, which, not many of the men characters did. Like, Hou Ji doesn't have a background that I'm aware of but Xiao Yuan, the maid, has like a weird lore as a secret spy looool. It's like--okay, it makes sense and I want a drama just about their lives before moving into Sima's household. They're even showing that the King/Emperor has daughters. That's just wild to me in general. You know how many drama's I've watched where the King/Emperor has daughters? That aren't the main characters or antagonists. None. Literally.
Anyhow, I think the issue that's coming off from this drama is how it is a male-focused drama. And it is odd that they can't have an equal gendered drama. Like, it's either a woman focused drama or a man focused drama. There's no in-between. But, you can tell from the marketing and drama poster which one it is. It's pretty much exactly what I thought except well-written and well-acted. But, yeah, free will and self-determination to disagree.
Same, only on episode two and I was SO disappointed when I found out he's not the main, especially because I was…
Yeah I actually got to a point on episode 3 where I'm like "Nah, there's no way this matchmaker guy is the ML." And I fastforwarded until episode ten and like they're still not together so I dipped. They hadn't even met up again which was a BAD sign.
They forgot when they wrote this kind of drama that you have to make us believe that they're meant to be together before you change who the romance is written as. Like I was hurt when it got to the wedding scene. I was upset. And I've never watched a drama like this where the failed marriage with the Second ML got me hurt like this. Whoever was supposed to do an audience check dropped the ball big time. FYI I'm not a stan or even know who these people are and I couldn't get over it. I can't imagine people who went into this feeling differently.
I feel like I'm in the minority, but I honestly love it when the actors depart from their typical BL roles. I…
Well, if the BL genre wasn't so typecasted, sexist, and misogynistic then we wouldn't have to wait for a different script to showcase their acting. It's annoying that they can't write a gay romance as just a sideline to the story and write the main plotline as interesting or new. Anytime they try it just falls into the same tropes. *sigh* Anyways, yeah, Perth is a good actor. So I'm sure this'll be good.
I agree with ur opinion on Gongchan's acting! I personally am a fan of how he acts haha, maybe it's a little bias…
Yeah, I'm getting vibes that it might not be a happy ending and that's why it's being written like it is. I'm going to just be optimistic. It's 2023. Optimism.

SAME! I'm surprised to see it rated so low especially for a BL. But part of me gets it. This drama is one of the first times I'm watching two men in a gay relationship w/o any actual BL tropes. It's like a regular KDrama but the main and side leads are gay. Personally, I think it's more progressive than I would've expected out of Korea or even most countries to just respect the characters as they're written. But we'll see I guess. It's not finished yet lol. It could get ruined at any point in time.
Im glad at least Im not alone in this... Every year i try whenever ım out of costume serıes but just nope...
Yeah, the mindset and the cultural gestures are also very different. You kinda have to acclimate so that you can understand what they're trying to portray in their characters. I do take a few days breaks between each usually.
Im glad at least Im not alone in this... Every year i try whenever ım out of costume serıes but just nope...
I get that. That's why I didn't want to come off any sort of way. I think moving from Jdramas brings a weird reflex over when I watch Kdrama or Cdramas and I hear that 😂

So, it's the acting then? I only say this because it feels like--in asian dramas people tend to say someone's voice is annoying as the default. Maybe it's like a critique on girls or maybe it's a bias when hearing asian speakers. I'm not saying anything that you're doing is wrong . It's just this gets said sooooo much that it really starts to pinch my nerves.
Kind disappointed she wasn't pregnant and a whole time skip where the ML realizes how much of an actual asshole he's been. Like he trapped her on the island and then expected that if he forces her to stay the only person she can move is him. Even if she does like him, no wonder she resented him. And it's like I feel bad for him in the way that cultural misogyny made it where he couldn't just let her be and them fall in love naturally.
It's fine tho. I'm only like 7 episodes in and like I KNOW he better learn his lessons. And she better learn whether she actually likes him and what it means for her beliefs of ethics and morality. And the justification for it.

Then watch it on mute. Like, unless you guys are mandarin speakers why bother? I always think takes like this is weird because she's not more annoying sounding than Esther Yu(who I love dearly) so until someone is worse than that. It's really not that annoying.
Really? This has higher rating than The New Employee?
In all fairness, New Employee pretty much has the same kinda boring plotline of a couple in History 5(which is also just OKAY) and it's more interesting in History 5.
I feel there is more bromance between Wang Yan and Lan Jue. Wonder if anyone is feeling the same? Wang Yan is…
They definitely edited out whole chunks. There's so many scenes with what feels like critical information forced edit into another scene where a plot has already been solved. I think it's happened at least 3 times by episode 19 where I think 2 or more episodes have been cut entirely each of these times.
Idk if it helps but it's nowhere near like Tharntype. And 90% of the gross nonconsensual touching ends at episode…
That's fair. I'm actually surprised the person who made Tharntype made this because to me it's a significant upgrade. But there's been a few really good BLs this past year especially from Japan. Which is weird to me. I would've never thought it possible 3 years ago 😂
Idk if it helps but it's nowhere near like Tharntype. And 90% of the gross nonconsensual touching ends at episode…
I want to add that episodes 8 to 13 are the other male leads stories and I haven't watched it yet but I've heard some things. You probably won't want to watch that second half of the series. And I don't think it'll make much a difference. Their plotlines don't start until those episodes.
Dropped after 2 episodes. I just cant with these forceful themes. I should just ignore all of Mame's adaptations.
Idk if it helps but it's nowhere near like Tharntype. And 90% of the gross nonconsensual touching ends at episode two at the school bath stall scene. I think there's one time where Rain is sleeping and they've already comfortably had sex w/consent. There's never a time they have sex and there isn't both consent.
Like Tharntype is like an 8 on that scale for me(a 10 is the Jdrama BLs before their current cute era) and this like a 5. More than they should be but it's like Chicken and never really goes anywhere. Not making excuses for it but just so you and other people can have more info to make the choice.
Depends on what you consider a plot, not to mention that there are a lot more Thai BLs out there than you have…
Yeah I watched three of those dramas. I might not have updated them because I had high enough expectations. Honestly, Manner of Death is why I'm disappointed with BL Thai dramas. If I can get one that has a coherent plotline, I consider that a win. Because, whew, they legit will write a whole drama without a plotline and that takes some confidence.
I mean, I'm confused. People don't like it because of a lack of plot but uh sad to burst some bubbles but it feels like people must be new to Thai BL. I have watched nearly every Thai BL over the last 10 years and I have yet to watch one with what I would consider a plot. Until We Meet Again lasted maybe 5 episodes in with a dash of little to no story and that's the closest I've seen 😂😂. So, like what's up? I want to know how people rate what is or isn't a watchable drama. By these standards, I can't see anyone watching any of these dramas. There's some good-ish Jdramas coming out lately. Those don't suck.

Cool drama so far.
