So I had nothing to watch while waiting for the last episodes of Splendid Match, so I started Youthful Glory starring Song Weilong. The classic tropes are still entertaining to watch, but I just couldn’t connect with the FL. She’s meant to be beautiful and smart, yet the overly cute moments felt too childish for me.
After Gu Jing Zhao in Splendid Match and the FL in Flourished Peony, my standards for costume drama FLs are definitely higher now 😭 They felt mature, grounded, and emotionally intelligent.
And maybe I’m just spoiled by the acting and chemistry in Splendid Match, but other idol drama acting suddenly feel a bit subpar 🫣
Does anybody else feel that there’s not much of a spark between the leads? I think Gu Jin Zhao has a more interesting…
What episode are you in now? I find that a lot of viewers change opinion towards both ML and 2ML throughout the drama depending on which part of the story are you in.
On the other hand there is definitely a population of viewers like you who don’t enjoy the ML character, which is totally fine that is why there is a 2ML to Give viewers option.
can't wait for Ci Sha & Ren Min to be on Hello Saturday next week I'm so readyyyy. I have major withdrawal
This interview has a lot of info to and ci share shared some of the adlibs he injected. He really upped the character with his personal touch, https://youtu.be/ofmFtD5mo28
You are one of the few who hates the ML character but i am curious why? Interested to see a different POV.
Interesting. There is another thread her discussing cyy and his mother relationship. Might be a link to why he is the idealist or as you see it power obsessed
Ren min seems to be taking her role seriously. She nailed it
Did the video mention that the director intentionally focused on quiet, lingering moments? A lot of the most memorable scenes in Splendid Match are the ones with barely any dialogue, where the camera simply lingers on the ML and FL’s expressions. I’m honestly mesmerized by how powerful Ci Sha and Ren Min were in those scenes and how they made them stick in viewers’ minds — from the lantern-grabbing scene, to her first meeting with San Ye in the hallway, all the way to the confession scene and even their silent staring match on the wedding night.
There are just too many scenes worth replaying. I really feel this is the director’s strength — recognizing the actors’ strongest qualities and maximizing them beautifully.
how is the romance in this one? are there kiss scenes skinship etc?
I personally enjoyed it. Don’t expect bickering or teasing or enemies to lovers trope. They started out as very formal business like to each other because of status and age gap. Fl is actually quite tensed when she sees Ml at the beginning but by ep 9 when ML realizes he likes her, the quiet and simmering tension between their interactions are so satisfying to watch. Chemistry is unmatched and honestly the two main leads and winwin characters carried the whole Show, not the plot.
Im stuck in this drama, rewatching the episodes nonstop
Will definitely replay all the couple scenes once all the episodes are out on Viki. This is one of the rare C-dramas where the couple didn’t need to constantly bicker, have useless misunderstandings, silly drunk scenes or scheme against each other before becoming a couple.
I really love that their chemistry was built more on the actors’ ability to use silent gazes, pauses, and body language to show attraction. Even something as simple as him grabbing a cookie from her bag became such a memorable scene. That kind of quiet tension is much harder to pull off.
For how flawed the plot was (especially in the latter half) and how underwhelming the ending turned out to be,…
A lot of the reviews online actually agree that the main leads’ chemistry carried the whole show. That was really its biggest selling point, and I agree — after watching so many dramas, this kind of chemistry is genuinely rare.

It might validate or give u some more insights about his motivations
