Agree on all accounts 😂 Blossoms of Power was honestly traumatic to watch. Meng zi yi acting was cringe that i don’t dare to watch princess gambit even if liu xue yi is the ML.

I think they’re both suffering, just in completely different ways. Jing Qi’s pain is more obvious—he has so much love to give, but Lanxiang just isn’t able to respond to it yet. Lanxiang’s pain is much more inward. It’s not that she simply doesn’t care about him; there’s just so much grief and weight in her heart that she doesn’t really have the space to love someone, or even fully receive the love being given to her. They’re basically hurting on opposite sides of the same wall.

Yup i almost blacklisted song yun after watching it. But after rediscovering her in Road home i realize it was sword and brocade that was wrong lol

Who are your other favorites? I consider myself picky too i did not even attempt to start the first jasmine despite its popularity.

I don’t watch a lot of on-air dramas, but if I had to compare the big ones I’ve finished recently:

* Pursuit of Jade — Started strong, but ultimately feels very much like an idol drama. Great visuals, but the acting is just okay for me. Second half is draggy.
* Splendid Match — Mediocre plot, but the two leads completely carried it. Great acting and sizzling chemistry made the show much more enjoyable than the story itself.
* Road to Splendor — Good plot, but I find both leads a little inconsistent. Their performances seem to flicker between genuinely good and just okay. And the latter half became too political heavy.
* Against the Current — This one ticks all the boxes for me: great chemistry, strong consistent acting, well written characters and engaging plot, and a beautiful OST. It feels much more complete as a drama. And i am really worried when will i get another drama like this once this ends.

How is zhang wan yi in romance ? I feel he is a good actor but was not convinced with romance in are you the one so was hesitant to try his other works,

True. Lanxiang was always meant to shine, and marrying into the Lin family finally gave her a reason to carry herself like the noblewoman she really is.

To me, an idol drama relies heavily on the leads’ popularity and visuals.
Acting can feel secondary when the story is packed with familiar moments designed to make the couple look romantic: piggyback rides, accidental close encounters, enemies to lovers, a jealous sister, and a rich, powerful male lead.

And yes, I think “dumbed down” describes some of the writing too. The characters often spell out exactly how they feel with lines like “I really love you,” leaving little room for subtext.

It is such a beautifully written drama with well written characters. I am
Already having withdrawal symptoms midway . Having watched so many dramas and weaker actors, I know it’s not going to be easy to find another drama that can beat this.

Up to this point, I’ve had no complaints about the story’s pacing. But watching Lanxiang spend her birthday in such sadness, while Jing Qi could only look on without knowing why or how to comfort her, was painful.

For the first time, I felt impatient: when will Lanxiang be able to lift that weight from her heart? No amount of apologies or sweet birthday dinners can heal this wound. They’re both suffering, helpless in the face of what happened to their families. In different ways, they’re both victims of it. No?
