I think a lot of younger viewers came into this drama expecting something completely different. The other day, someone complained that it was already episode 30 and there was still no revenge: “What is the FL even doing?”

Then on Reddit, someone else complained that the romance was moving too slowly and they are going to drop soon.

Well… because this isn’t really a revenge drama or a romance drama. 😂 Some viewers fail to recognize that this is much more character-driven than plot-driven. It’s about the characters, their choices, relationships, and gradual growth.

The choices we make shape the lives we lead.

Xingtang and Lanxiang were both married to Jing Qi, and both had reason to resent the Lin family. But given that piece of evidence, Xingtang would have used it to ruin the family or hold it over them. She chose to answer her suffering with hatred and hurt others in turn, sending her own life further into a downward spiral.

Lanxiang burned the evidence without a second thought. She didn’t do it because she loved Jing Qi. She did it because, despite all she had suffered, she still chose kindness. To her, living well doesn’t mean returning every hurt inflicted on her.

And with Jing Qi lying there close to death while the two women spoke, the contrast was hard to miss: his fate might have been very different whoever he is married to at that point… no wonder he said i am speechless with joy when he woke up

Ep 36 xingtang and lanxiang the choices they make

Agree. He makes every scene count—from the lighthearted moments to the heavy ones, and especially those in-between scenes that might feel merely passable with a weaker actor. Liu Xueyi delivers them with such precision that even the smallest moments feel intentional.

Lanxiang burning that piece of evidence says so much about who she is. She knows exactly how tragic it is for an entire clan to be destroyed, so despite her resentment toward Jing Qi for taking away her freedom and marrying her without her consent, she is still able to set aside her personal grievance and do what she believes is right.

Her kindness still prevails. To her, living does not mean being consumed by revenge or deliberately hurting someone else just because she has been hurt.

And then that tear falling from Jing Qi’s face… it is the moment he is reminded again just how extraordinary the woman he married really is.

Ep35-36 Lanxiang kindness prevails

Jing Qi only gets Lanxiang’s full attention when he’s injured. Last time he came home early for her birthday looking like a freshly polished prince, she got drunk before they could even have a proper conversation. He learned his lesson 😍

There are no annoying characters or lazy characters in this drama
All are compelling enough
To watch than hit that fast forward button. in other dramas i actually hit the fast forward button on the main leads and watch for the second leads lol

Oh, that might explain why Tan Songyun seems so reserved in behind-the-scenes clips and interviews—so different from someone like Esther Yu. I rarely see her playfully teasing her male leads. Li Meng, meanwhile, was hilariously shameless about how handsome Liu Xueyi is. She practically fangirled over his shirtless scene, while Tan Songyun barely reacted like no big deal. I think I understand her now.

How come? What happened there?

Some actors are strong performers but don’t always do well in romance. Zhang Wanyi and Xiao Zhan, for example, are both talented, yet I sometimes feel a wall between them and their romantic leads. Tan Songyun is the female version. she’s a good actress, but she often comes across as guarded, and I haven’t found her as convincing in flirty moments. Luckily, Liu Xueyi brings enough romantic tension for both of them. I am going to reserve my judgement here and wait til
