Agreed, it's about hitting a sweet spot often enough to make it and keep it appealing. Mileage varies soooo broadly for complicated ones (and even seemingly uncomplicated ones that end up far from where viewers expect - like 2521) that when you get a syrupy drama that doesn't set itself up to be anything other than that, people just don't believe them..? haha
