Title King the Land Spoiler
Oh! No wonder the vibe of this drama feels familiar. And if you notice the poster as well. I was wondering why…
I liked them till I didn't. I couldn't finish BP (the ML abandoning the FL on the side of the road killed the drama for me, I couldn't enjoy it after) and the childhood story on WWWSK totally took me out, but my god was the skinship on another level. I finished it for that 😅 but my aversion to wedding endings left me rolling my eyes into the back of my head. I'm picky af too 🤣

Such a fun article even with Google translate. This person gets it.
I really enjoyed it. There's no sugar-coating the paper-thin plot or the been there, done that tropes. It's all about focusing on what does make it fresh and enjoyable.

Frankly, they're not alone - there's no way the picky af knetz would carry this drama to the ratings and rankings it's enjoying, or the adoration the leads are getting, if it didn't have its merits. Eye candy without the emotions doesn't take you far.

Do it! I did that binge to introduce my sister to kdramas and now she's the one planning our KTL watch parties for the remainder of the show lol. I knew I had to start old school to draw her in, so glad I did.

And if you haven't watched it, check out Soul Mate 🫠

I dont think most people here even know Lovers in Paris. I watched it so long time ago so I dont even remember…
Yes!!! That makes me so happy. One of my favorites is Soul Mate from 2006, the old stuff is just on another level.

Low-key same.. I hated WWWSK and BP, I was ready to plug my nose to watch this. Soooo happy it's not like those.

Like you know you're not getting some ridiculous serial killer subplot here 🤣

You know, I binged Coffee Prince last week and there were also a few scenes that looked like they were ripped right off it. One of them was Gong Yoo measuring Yoon Eun Hye's foot with his thumb and index finger 👉

Yeah! Tbh I was turned off by it 🫣 turns out Korean cheese is much more my style than American cheese, hah

Oh it's definitely an old school throwback, it's no wonder why many have a hard time digesting it, if they're not used to them 😊 the poster got a lot of comparisons to Hallmark and Netflix xmas movies too, pure 🧀

Saw this article making the rounds and it's worth a read. It contextualizes Korean romcoms since their inception in the 1990s, and through this current iteration. I like that the comparison isn't against dramas from the last few years, but rather Lovers in Paris (which was quoted as an inspiration for this drama by the ML last year) and other older dramas. It's not a gushing love letter, but a perspective on what makes this drama so popular and attractive.

Bottom line (auto translated):

"In the end, the important thing is not a Cinderella fantasy where you meet a chaebol man and rise in status. It doesn't matter if it's new or not. It is neither politically nor ethically right or wrong. From 30 years ago to now, the only demand of viewers that has not changed is fun. No more, no less, that's all."

If this drama heralds a comeback to *fun* dramas, I'm all for it!

AhhhhhThat mountain rescue scene is just ridiculous. It was all good until that point.I know this is a romcomBut…
The first clue that this was a ridiculous-funny drama was the intro to the ML. Literally parachuting onto to wrong building while making lounging poses in the air doesn't exactly scream "normal" (to me, anyway) I'm confused as to how that superhero leap is the first time these folks are finding the drama ott

Seconding Wok of Love. The plot is a mess, but the couple is epicccc. King the Land and Wok of Love are the only…
For reals, their playfulness elevated their kisses to a whole new level, tho my favorite scene was the winking at the end hahaha, he's adorable and she is so REAL 🤣. I definitely rolled around along with her hahaha. They really played out like a real couple, that method acting 🔥

I only wish we get similar skinship here, can you imagine? 🥵

I've just realized something, I haven't seen the obligatory shower scene yet.
I think he confirmed there'd be some shirtless action, I don't think it was a shower scene, tho 🤔

Lee Jun Ho is soooo good in this drama! Really enjoying the way he’s portraying Gu Won. Has he done a rom-com…
Seconding Wok of Love. The plot is a mess, but the couple is epicccc. King the Land and Wok of Love are the only dramas where the couple has me giddy, rolling on the couch with a huge smile. And if you want a peek at his kissing skills, feel free: https://youtu.be/dJKGiMoi-0k

After I watch ep 5, I know ep 6 will be higher, you can see the drama trajectory after you watch the episode. Also…
Before, during, after, I mean it's not surprising lol. Just wait till they get to the kiss scenes. I've not watched Yoona do romance before, but my man Junho is built for melting tv screens. If it hadn't come up now, it would've come up then 🤣 (next week maybe? Maybe?? 🙏)

Yeah, I don't think this is for marketing, not to this extent, since it will affect their lead future actives…
Agreed that this was definitely not on purpose. The timing is stupid, regardless if it's true or not. He's got a tour starting in a few weeks and idol dating news are a deathknell.

For those saying this was done to hype the drama, just a reminder.. They hit that 12% pretty comfortably without the rumor, and there's no reason to believe it wouldn't have kept climbing with that preview for 7. It's cool to be skeptical, but it's likelier this was a clout chase by the newcomer site that started the rumor (they've only been around for a couple of weeks). Let's keep enjoying this awesome drama 💪
