For me I always saw Jing Yuan and Xing Yue is their past self (as I have been explaining it which you already have seen it). I don't really separate them and have accepted this is their ending because to me, I love Fan Yue and Jing Yuan boh equally on my side here.
I just didn't feel that way on my side here(like how you do about this) because I felt like if I did, it means I didn't like the ending to FY and BS on my side which I did because they earned it. This is how I saw it(personally). What I am saying here doesn't mean I love Jing Yuan any less, to clear it up, I just love both Jing Yuan and Fan Yue equally.

To put it in this sense, in each life time when you die, a part of you in that lifetime will become the "stars"(because that life in the past has ended when you die) and your soul(in this case will be their Divine Mantle") will enter the reincarnation cycle where your life is renewed and you will be your own self based on the life experiences in that lifetime.
To me I understood it based on reincarnation side of things since it made sense to me. I also respect and appreciate how they emphasized the past vs present. Both Fan Yue and Bai Shuo are reincarnations to Jing Yuan and Xing Yue in this life time, where they just want to live their current life in their own identity since their life experiences in this life is who they are and shouldn't be restrained by their roles in their past life.
Tian Dao(Heaven) said that Bai Shuo didn't become Xing Yue again but instead she walked her own path to become a God in the end, which allowed them that happiness.
To me both Jing Yuan and Fan Yue share the same traits and qualities in terms of their character personality but Bai Shuo is a huge contrast to who she was in her past as Xing Yue. Which that makes Bai Shuo a better version of her past self(since she was restrained by those heavy responsibilities in the peace of the three realms and wasn't allow that freedom to love by Heaven), in this lifetime as Bai Shuo she have said it herself, she only wants to protect those she held dear to her and not carrying the heavy responsibility that Xing Yue once has on her shoulders.
It is because of Bai Shuo persistence to walk her own path(Dao) that had proved Heaven wrong by this 6th contemplation and this couldn't have happened if she returned to being Xing Yue. I am not saying Xing Yue didn't love Jing Yuan because she did, but the difference between her and Bai Shuo is Xing Yue have that heavy responsibility on her shoulders and if she were to become Xing Yue(like her past self again) then she probably wouldn't have the 6th contemplation of Great Love like Bai Shuo did at the end that proved Heaven wrong in the past.
In the end to me, I love Jing Yuan and Xing Yue love story in the past but in Fan Yue and Bai Shuo, I honestly saw that both Jing Yuan and Xing Yue got their happy ending in their next life in a new identity as Fan Yue and Bai Shuo.

Moonlight Mystique is the drama adaptation to its Novel BSSS (Bai Shuo Shang Shen).
The Novel BSSS is the spinoff story focusing on True God Tianqi and High Goddess Yuemi which ties into the parent Novel(Shang Gu), that has a drama adaptation known as Ancient Love Poetry.
In terms of Novel side of things, it is connected, just different story focusing on different characters as the Main.
In terms of drama universe, you can take Moonlight Mystique as a 'standalone drama' since it is not connected to Ancient Love Poetry due to these changes.
Each Drama adaptation, no matter if its Ancient Love Poetry(from its Novel Shang Gu) or Moonlight Mystique(from its Novel Bai Shuo Shang Sheng) will always have these changes, this happened in all drama adaptations where they change it to fit censorship etc.
Even when Moonlight Mystique doesn't connect to ALP universe, but the drama to MM does follow some references to its novel BSSS though, even with these changes.
In the novel, Tianqi is described to have purple hair and purple eyes so MM Jing Yuan follows the appearance to the real Tianqi accurately when compared to how ALP has it in the drama.
P.S. Fan Yue, Mumu is Canon names in its novel BSSS. And in ALP, Tianqi was also known as Jing Yuan during the time he stayed in the Demon Realm after he was "killed" by Bai Jue.
So despite these changes it is up to you whether you can accept it or not, since each people is different. For me personally, I didn't mind the change to their backstory since I saw it was changed for the better(on Tianqi's side).
