I felt like you need to respect that. I mean, if you are going to put this in reality, for reincarnation side of things, would you let your past life (version of yourself) dictate who you are in this life and become an exact replica of your past self? Or would you want to live your life based on the current version of yourself? If you just want to live your life based on this current version through your current life experience that shaped your persona in this life, then this can be relatable to how BS and FY is feeling. It doesn't change who they were in their past life. They are still them but in this life they are living on as Fan Yue and Bai Shuo.

And I understand your feelings for JY when he said that, but just like I have said in that post(thread), we can try to look at this in another sense/perspective, their ending gives a sense of bittersweet where their happy ending lives on in their next life(as Fan Yue and Bai Shuo) it actually makes sense if you look at reincarnation side of things. I felt like how the writers wrote their ending was very poetic and sad, yet beautiful in a way, that the love they held for the one they love is irreplaceable. It is similar to Bai Jue situation in collecting the "many souls"(which I see it more like soul fragments) for Shang Gu.
And in the novel from what I read, Tian Qi is the same where he also spent a lot of time to collect the souls so he can revive Yuemi(but unfortunately it didn't go as planned because something happened that disrupted the process), from what I read online what others said.
While Jing Yuan had died back then, he used his Divine Power(which I take it that this includes a part of his soul fragment) to bind the hidden heart.
Does that make him still alive? No. Because his physical body is no more. When he died back then, a part of his Divine Power(and soul fragment) was binded to sealed the Hidden Heart, and his Divine Mantle(original being) was split into two, as he has explained it. 1 half of it was reincarnated into Fan Yue. The other half continue searching in this world(like a wandering soul) to search for Xing Yue(as explained in the drama), that was also during the time he saved BS and BX.
When little FY was 15, he fell off the cliff, which made the divided Divine Mantle(that was originally split into two) became one again in little FY and that was why little FY lost his memories because of this.
So when Jing Yuan who returned 60,000 years later and said he wants to join Xing Yue in the stars, that part of him that left FY, was the last(remaining soul fragment) that just wants to join Xing Yue in the stars.
After saying all this, it doesn't mean Fan Yue is not Jing Yuan reincarnated self because he is. For FY and BS, it is reincarnation because they have their own identity in this life time that makes them who they are. But even when they have their own identity as FY and BS, it doesn't take away the fact they are reincarnation of Jing Yuan and Xing Yue(and their past self).

This ending have exceeded my expectations that not even TLI or ALP have.

But what's even more nice is, they get to have some dialogue between them!! I love how FY reassured her that he's really back!!
And that kiss really came at an unexpectedly surprise but in a positive way since I love how they kissed in that ending scene.
In TLI, the ending was lacking because Yuanqi and Fengyin just standing there at a distance 😭😭
ALP, Shang Gu ran up to Baijue and hugged him and it end in each other embrace (I wanted more!! 😭😭)
But in MM, we got something so much more and I am forever grateful for this Happy Satisfying and conclusive ending for our beloved pairing! 💜💜🩵🩵
