So... I started watching drama ten year ago, and I watched easely 50 less drama than you in one year. ^^
At first, I was watching mostly japanese drama. As I watched Hana Yori Dango, I never watched the korean remake "boy over flower".
My all time favorite drama was Liar Game, until 7 years later I watched kdrama W.
My first kdrama was City Hunter because I wanted to watch the japanese character, but it was a trap ! It's totaly different ! Yet, the drama was nice. Human interactions was surprising.
First favorite actress was Lee Dae Hee, because of Miss Ripley drama. So I watched all her dramas. Some of them were quite bad! But when you start watching dramas, you can watch some bad dramas without problem. Robber was boring. Hello! Miss wasn't really good but with enough funny content. Of course, Chuno and Hotel King were great.

Article Premiere Reminder: Start-Up Spoiler
They are such a dream team! I can’t wait to watch it . Also can’t wait for your thoughts on the comments
Hi! Hélas, I don't plan to watch it live, probably binge watch after broadcast. I don't watch dramas since some weeks. I'm more on cinema, SF movies, good old french movies, a bit of everything.
And I also rewatched 24, all seasons. This time I took care about the script, and it's probably the best serie ever about cliffhanger, plot-twist, pace. Or at least, as good as W, 365 repeat the year or Empress Ki about that.
Ah! and also, funny and weird japanese movies, Zombie Ass toilet of the dead, vampire girl vs frankeistein girl, Robogeisha, Exte. Or other fun horror movies I missed : Belko experiment, Horribilis, Mayhem, Milo, The Cabin In The Woods. And crazy action movies, like Kill'Em all, the night come for us, Ninja assassin (with Rain!), Crank.
My favorite movie from this cinema run : Terumae romae (japanese movie and comedy).

Director and writer is a dream team here.
Park Hye Ryun is one of my 3 favorite kdrama screenwriter.
I thank you about reminder, but I couldn't read all your article.
I want to watch this drama with 0% spoil before. ;-)

Title Life on Mars
Dude, you're on every single "time travel" show writing exactly the same kind of comment. If this genre is boring…
Finally, beyond this misunderstanding, I thank you very warmly. You answer my questions. I have nothing against this show, or any other, I just wanted to know if it corresponds to my tastes. Which are the following: I love science fiction and time travel stories, which have many occurrences. And on the other hand, I don't like stories about police investigations at all (with very few exceptions, like "Signal"). Here, it seems quite clear that this drama does not meet what I am looking for. Maybe I will watch it one day, but in any case, it should not be on my priority list.
Thanks again to you.

I'm not on every timetravel drama topic. And I bash nothing, I even didnt watched the show. I ask a question about what kind of timetravel show it is. And nobody answered.
You need to learn respect and READ what people write and ask !

Woo! We have the same favorite actress !
I just replace IU by Kim Tae Hee, and it's quite my list too.
In a top 10, I would replace someone by Kim Seo Hyung too.
And other favorites : Park Ha Na, Lee Da Hae, Park Shin Hye, Nam Ji Hyun.
And I don't forget great Ajummas (see on my list).

Hacking, finance, medicine, etc...
In all fields, everything is plot-device, because on television, there is no time and means to depict realism. And even if that were the case, if realism prevents a good plot-twist, one should not hesitate to abandon it. It just has to look credible, even if it's not. And for the story to follow its logic, which the viewer can accept, without inconsistency.

About your article, you spotted some interesting points : about how songs help viewer to store the drama in memory, with feeling.
But also, I just want to say that many drama song aren't good. But people like these song because they liked the drama. So it's a two way process. I'm almost sure if people listened only the song (without the drama), maybe they wouldn't like the song.
Even if I'm not used to do that, it work sometimes on me. A drama song isn't good. I know it's bad music, but I hear the song many times in the drama. And if I like the drama, I have more tolerance for liking this bad song too, at least a little bit.
I also like very much some song from drama I really don't like. So here, I just listen the song on my mp3, and it's a but frustrating I don't like the drama too. Here I can't do anything, I won't like the drama, even if the song is good.

Instrumentals are amazing! I have a whole youtube playlist dedicated to them. I wish that they were officially…
Yeah, I'm frustrated because most of the time, we get just "various artists" and don't know the name of musicians. I worked hard and did many research on internet just for knowing name of some musicians of the best BGM I like. When listening I was almost sure it was the same team, and it was !

I definitely understand why you think that! What would be your reaction if a drama you watched had bad background…
No, I don't stop watching if the drama is good.
Plus, I don't listen really BGM while I watch, but if BGM are good, they jump at my ears. Most of the time, as if by chance, my favorite dramas get the best BGM too.
I listen songs as if it was BGM during a drama. You get many different cases. Some Songs can be bad (I don't like music), but be ok as BGM. Also, some Song can be very good, but very inaccurate as BGM.
I reported many case like that in the forum thread created by Sunset.

If there is only one good song, I'm happy.
But overall, I think Background music is more important than songs.
As an example, drama "The last empress".
I don't remember any song from this drama, but background music was very effective.

It's almost impossible to answer your questions "how is the male or female lead introduced" because there's too much drama.
I'll limit myself to one drama: IRIS.
Both characters are very well introduced. The difficulty for the script is very high.
The story must make us believe in a love story in less than two episodes, and only with a few scenes. This is because quickly, the script talks about spy story, action scenes, etc..
So, the time is very limited, but yet the meeting between the characters must be completed quickly because without delay, the story will use that later.
Fortunately, the director had first made a story very close in cinema, the film "Shiri".
He used his experience and knowledge of the screenplay to arrange it all within the imposed deadlines. So they are two very well introduced characters, with only a few scenes. It must strike very hard, very right, and immediately!
The scene in the amphitheatre for example, where there is an indirect confrontation between the two characters.

So interesting article.
Only 10% of drama have the "rich guy/poor girl" trope, and even less (because it's only a 7/2 statistic after that). As a cliché, it's more a cliché in our mind than real about all dramas.
christy Aug 20, 2020
Rules of the second male lead:
- Super nice guy, not arrogant or jerk.
- Wait for the girl since X years.
- Have argument or fight with main male lead.
- Finaly, don't play dirty, and help main female and male lead, and give up the girl.

Historical drama is my favorite genre.
And often my lifesaver when I've been disappointed by too many other dramas.
I have a 50% less chance of dropping a historical drama.
The narration is more classic and is very solid.
I just finished "Six Flying Dragons", which is in my top 3 historical kdramas now.
Knowing that I had seen "Three with deep root" before, and it was fascinating to see the prequel, written by the same writers, with a lot of facts and real historical characters.

I ended up liking Save Me and The Package too! Save Me was addicting and I loved the main couple in The Package.…
"The Promise" was far better than what I expected. ;-)

Thank you for the recommendation ^_^ ^_^
I had another one (and maybe others after).
"Psychopath Diary" was unexpectedly excellent.
I don't know why I watched this, I had no expectation, just luck.
It turn to be the most funny comedy kdrama to date.
