I can’t count the number of productions (from exuberantly high budget to ridiculously low budget) that I dropped after a few minutes of watching… Does not matter if the casting is great or not… If it can’t grab my attention during those first few minutes - It is most definitely a drop.

I have watched the older of the 2 actors in other projects but I never paid much attention to his characters… Halfway through, I felt something odd about their presence when they were together in their scenes. I went to read about their bios; that was how I found out about their age gap. I am not against all-age gaps. I simply feel very uncomfortable watching a minor with an adult. It is a moral perception thing… Not a legal perception thing for me.

Yes, I have watched all 3 versions and read the full novel. My favorite is still the original incomplete live version. The second Chinese version was indeed not half bad. It would be nice if they could produce the next part, with the same cast. That cast did a great job.

Therefore in Germany, it is more about the legality of the act rather than the social taboo of a minor engaging in (I can not even write that “Word” next to the word minor…) act with an adult.
