I saw the FL in Love and Destiny, and she stood out there because her character was written well. But here, she is forced/directed to act over the top, too loud, too flippant, too immature. There are moments when the inate goodness in the character comes across and hopefully that will appear more often. So far, other than to accompany the ML's/drama's plot, she doesn't add much value. Of course, there are moments of brilliance when she solves something right in the first few episodes, to demonstrate that she can be quite smart. BUT the story doesn't allow her to demonstrate her smartness. Still, I am watching it because I kinda like the tsundere ML and based on the 2nd ML's storyline (I am quite sure he really is going to do something to her to prevent her from leaving his side, be it a poison or whatever), I am waiting to see how the ML pines for her. And I also want to see what she is going to do for the ML.

So the synopsis above isn't quite right. I think that was taken from the book. In this drama, the FL is a modern-day novelist. I think she bases one of the characters in her novel on a real-life person (someone correct me if I am wrong as there are no subs, and I have to make do with what I can understand). And that person is some rich guy's son whose life starts to closely follow the turn of events in her novel (for the worst obviously). In a series of events, he deletes her upcoming chapter and in anger, she writes that she wishes he can never ever find her (coz he tried to hold her up somewhere in his house to prevent her from writing anything else but she escapes). He disappears and his henchmen come after her, in her own apartment and while escaping, she posts online/submits her manuscript with the words written (that no matter what happens, she must never ever be found by him/ fall within his reach). As soon as that 'manuscript'/sentence gets uploaded, she disappears and wakes up in ancient times (in a fictitious country). As luck would have it, the body she is occupying was in a fire in a brothel and when our FL wakes up she 'loses all memory of the past.' Of course that is not the case as the soul in the body she is inhabiting has disappeared and the modern-day FL has replaced this body. And so that's how the story in ancient time begins.

Incidentally, the 2nd ML (the princess mentioned in the synopsis that she's trying to evade) and the FL are childhood friends, with mutual affections for each other. But after the FL has a soul-swap/change and is replaced by the 21st century 'soul', she no longer remembers any of the past (obviously) and has no affections whatsoever for the 2nd ML. Instead, she is more interested in the ML. And I think the 2nd ML will become emperor and she will become empress, going by the beginning and ending credit song.

Well, he did propose to her again, I don't think they showed the ceremony.

they have one major misunderstanding but it's settled pretty quickly, there's a wedding and the final few episodes, of course the antagonist has something up his sleeve but all's well ends well. And a tiny bundle of joy to wrap the show up.

lol, I came to watch JJL because of the actor portraying Childe Ning. So, I can understand how you feel. Unfortunately, given his face, I don't think he would have been able to take on the ML role. Otherwise, I would have loved to see him do it, then again, I saw him in The Blooms at Ruyi Pavillion, and with a different hair do, he could almost past off for the ML's rascalish looks.

@psychoanalyst my thoughts exactly. I think she felt really bad about it. I read somewhere in some forum, that in the book, she has a lot of respect for him and vice versa, though it's not so obvious in the drama.
So, imagine being her - it's like in your head, logically you know he's a very good man, someone who puts you first above all, who has put his reputation at stake, gone against his mother to protect you. And you have to turn him down not once but twice. And for a guy like him to have to cry in front of you while making such a confession, won't it break your heart? I mean, this is in ancient times you know, we ain't talking about the metro man, in today's world where being open about your emotions is cool. This was in ancient times, when a guy was supposed to be macho, and hide his feelings... and there he was being extremely open about his feelings with her. I felt extremely sorry for the both of them.

ditto. Especially the balconey which is like it's floating above the mountains...I was thinking to myself if only such a place were real. And then I thought "oh no, my furniture and clothes will all grow fungus from the dampness/mist in the mountains." LOL, curse my practical brain.

I agree with you. I initially thought it's going to be a low-budget drama that has nothing substantial going for it but as you put it the one each episode starts, the reflection is refreshing, and the angle of putting oneself in other's shoes has really been brought to the fore in this drama. The FL is really attractive, though at times her thick make-up shows. I still can't get over their real life age-gap. Putting that aside, if I had remained ignorant, I really couldn't have known just by looking at them, and I would say, they are portraying their role aptly.

same here, enjoying it while waiting for JJL to air. The story is pretty interesting and the FL is quite pretty.

Yes, in E17-18, he asks his grandmother for the imperial decree to be sent to JJL in the Capital, as a kind of protection in case someone goes out of the way to make trouble for her. He openly admits to the family, when asked by his 2nd sister if he likes her. He tells them that he hopes to marry her when she returns to their family one day (this time he says not as a ruse like last time but genuinely). He is quick to add, of course only if she is willing. However, out of the 4, this is the one with the least chance to receive reciprocal feelings, based on how I foresee things will turn out.
