Err, regarding the court-politics bit. Yes, every drama that is set against the backdrop of the royal-court (both chinese and korean) WILL have some amount 'game of thrones' going on. Almost ALL of them will use the initial episodes to establish facts, positions, allegiances, conspiracies, and plans to break the status quo.
However, after this 'warming up' period, sh*t actually starts quickly hitting the fan, as you get to see all the stuff that was talked/ discussed/ planned since the initial episodes play out for real. And it turns ugly (and fun) REAL FAST. The back-stabbing, double-crossing and out-maneuvering is simple enough to follow, but not dumb enough to make you think: 'how are these idiots even *alive*?'
Mr. Queen follows a similar plot-progression. Apart from a small speed-breaker around the 6/7 ep... we are going full-throttle into the meat of the story. The coming weeks will *only* be better.... The politics isn't heavy, and the comic-relief is literally, the *other half* of the plot! :P

So people, if you're having second thoughts... jump right into it. No regrets. Plus the MDL comment section is FUN! ^^

So yeah, it was consensual (unless any form of drunk-sex is non-consensual, because intoxicated people can't give consent).... and it's established she saw the King, acknowledged it was him, and went ahead, nonetheless.

--Leaving no direct heirs behind, Cheoljong, a distant relative of GQD's husband's family, is picked out from exile, and is 'adopted' by GQD (who is his regent-ruler).. before QD gets to adopt him. Hence, Cheoljong is 'expected' to do the bidding of Kim-clan.
--So yeah, picky-granny is the mom-in-law of cult-lady.
--Since QD never really became a queen in her own right (her husband passed away young, and her son ends up inheriting the throne)... her status is that of a 'Queen Mother'
--Whereas, GQD herself was the Queen (wife of 2 emperors before Cheoljong). As a widow of a prev King, she has the status of the 'Dowager Queen', and thus one-up in terms of age and ranking seniority to the QD.

Haha me neitherrr. I saw the cast list. Thought his name sounded Tibetan (i have lots of friends)....immediately remembered Liang Jie's engaged to a Tibetan guy, so googled her fiance...and boom, it's the same person!! Hair and costuming makes soo much difference right?! :)
