Jun & Jun is probably my favourite Korean BL Even though I'm not really into office romance. I haven't watched…
I'm super glad you watched and enjoyed it, it really is memorable and has some great scenes and good acting. It's always risky to read reviews and watch FMVs and stuff because fan interpretations differ, but in the end I'm glad you liked it!
EP6: THAT was a K.O closing scene. Not a damn thing wrong with the confession or how it played out. I love how Jom is not baby gay, but he's got to act like he's a little bit baby gay, even though man's done been gay and open about it. Heh, fun.
Ep 3: I love that Jom handled that physical confrontation himself. Not like some damsel in distress needing a last minute save by anyone else like always happens.
Ep 1: I am reluctantly impressed. I only say reluctantly because I'm fairly certain Jom is in a coma, and shows where the main story takes place outside of reality generally feels redundant to watch imo. But that aside, the whole tone, pacing, directing and acting of this first episode didn't feel like a standard BL, it didn't feel much like a BL at all, it felt like a normal TV series, which is what impressed me.
Maybe it's not a coma and there's some supernatural element in play? I guess I'll see.
I like the way Lisa says 'no, no, no' π I like this show in general. I swear Xia Shang Zhou has no right to be judging Yao Shun Yu though, he seems to be just as clueless about how to endear himself to someone naturally. His 'courting' process is laughable. But it's funny.
Its not really unrealistic per se. I'm from a country where being gay was something that was a criminal offense…
Yeah, we don't watch BL's for realism per se, BUT it wouldn't hurt for them to try and head down that road, make BL's something to take a little more seriously one day. Chueam also mentioned Boston knowing her since year 1, so I'd say they all met in uni or (more realistically based on them ALL being gay) at the bar, which is better as a timeline, because it accounts for how shallow their friendships are (what with all the careless 'betrayals').
As for Atom, yes, a complete disaster. And to everyone's redemption, I guess it was inevitable, because these pairings are predefined, so fans would be disappointed or unhappy if the didn't end up together, which, they really shouldn't, not one of them imo. I don't know if I'll make it to then end of this show tbh π«€

Third comment on this topic, it seems a bit of a sticking point. But I said what I said π I'm answering you though, because I agree with what you mentioned about 'certain places'. In this series however, while the majority of the cast hang out in Yo's bar, there is no evidence, and it's not implied, that they met at Yo's bar, which would be a plausible 'certain place' for people of the LGBTQ+ community to hang out and meet and become good friends over some time. But if they met in that bar, it would mean they wouldn't have been friends for all that long considering their ages. To me, it feels iffy, a little heavy handed. But anyway. I think when Cheum's brother suddenly decided to flip his script that's when I was like 'ok, then' but I moved on from it and just thought 'sure, okay'.
It might come from making comparisons to western LGBTQ+ shows; so I need to suspend that disbelief in many BL's π it's all good.
If anything I think Mew is Joker because if you look at Top's relationship trends, it checks out? Just an assumption…
I had said 'if you get my drift' but the comments so far makes me wonder if anyone got my drift. π What exactly do you mean by Mew should have been the Joker? I don't get your drift either π
Ep 9 imo: almost caught up. Best scene this ep was between Sand and Nick, it's good they're friends, although I think Nick is pushing it by calling himself a 'very decent person'. Nick still doesn't seem to know exactly what he's doing, but bless the smol thing, he's trying. Sand is also proving to be dumb in his choice making, but at least he's aware of it.
I can't say I feel bad for Mew at all, he's been pretty stupid about his choices from the start, but he kind of admitted it in this episode. Top is still a bad choice, even though he seems to have basically made it to the end of his fast track on the redemption arc trail. zoom zoom. He's a good guy now apparently. Just the nicest most goody goody ever. π I haven't watched 10 yet tho, will the predictable arrival of the ex complete his good guy arc when Top reveals an innocent reason for calling up his ex and continues to chase after the token virgin? I guess I'll find out.
The talk with Mew and Ray resolved itself suspiciously smoothly as well. I'd been wondering why Mew didn't just say "I'm not attracted to you." from the start, because that's the long and short of it and it's a totally valid reason to not be interested in someone. But at least it seems that after he beat all the way around the bush with determination, he was happy to foist Ray onto Sand first chance he got π loophole taken advantage of Mew, well done.
As for boundaries, Mew's parents, Ray and Top certainly used those minimally in this ep.
Boston doesn't really bear mentioning, he is who he is and I don't think he's pretended to be anything else, so more power to him. Best to avoid that sort of person though if someone can't handle their way of doing thing.
I hope this is out soon. I feel like MosBank are currently the closest thing to MaxTul we'll get in BL for a while. They have natural comfortable chemistry, they just need a better script and a better director and they're aces.
Ep 8 imo: Messy messy messy. I'd already suspended my disbelief of the unrealistic amount of gay people popping up in a limited social circle, so I'm not even surprised by that anymore. I'm willing to believe the show is taking place in a version of events with sexual fluidity. Which is great.
It does appear that Top is blazing the redemption arc trail though, which is also unrealistic. Too fast, too easy, too smooth imo. Boston and Ray's behaviour makes more sense. But they only have limited eps, so I get it. They need at least one couple to come out of this in a 'romantic' light. Top took that drink to the face like a pro though. If that'd been me, I would have smacked Mew right into Ray. Mew and Ray, I realised at some point, were meant to be dressed as Joker and Harley Quin. And all I could think was, they should both have been dressed as Harley Quin, there is no Joker in that 'relationship', if you get my drift. π sns
I don't even know what Nick is doing, and neither does Nick, so. Sand is a bro.
Despite any intentional humor, I laugh a lot while watching this. The first four episodes dragged, but 5 through 7 so far (I haven't caught up to date yet) have been much more entertaining. I was kind of wondering if Mew and Top were gonna end up in a "Jessie Reyez, Do you Love Her' scenario after the reveal, that they'd have some really unhealthy relationship issues or something, but Mew still seems to be pretty gullible and easily lead, albeit on a 'safer' sort of ground, and Top is going through a predictable redemption arc (or so it seems). I guess I'll see where it goes.
I have to mention the 'shaving scene' though with Ray and Sand, because wtf? They couldn't use an empty razor and actually make it touch the dude's face? It was distractingly funny to watch Sand do...whatever he was doing to the shaving creamπ I liked how Mew 'this is Sparta'd Boston into the pool too π Sand is still the only one I like though.
Overall it's kicked up several notches, I intend to keep watching.
Well I knew I liked Sand, but episode 5 confirmed it. When his mother called him 'gangly' I lol'd. Ep 5 was probably the most entertaining episode so far imo.
Does anyone else find it a little hard to take Japanese BL's seriously? I can't help but laugh because the scenarios in Japanese BL's (BL manga too) are so ridiculous. Just watched episode one, might take a while to pick this up again.
Just got to ep 3 today, sure the acting is fine, everyone's doing well. Admittedly though, not a likeable set of characters. So far I only like Sand as a character π but that has nothing to do with the acting, they're all pulling their weight.
Maybe it's not a coma and there's some supernatural element in play? I guess I'll see.

Still only like Sand as a character tbh.
