Agree about Susu and Bobo. Then you see all the clips of skin ship they just dropping in at the end. I don't know…
Things turned out well and quite healthy for BLB at least, despite the small pushes for ratings. Considering western dating shows though, this is still tame and tasteful. There's no ugly shock factor nonsense in the filming.
As for His Man, imo s01 was okay and less predictable. the contestants are very very shallow though, but they still seemed like they were trying to make earnest choices. In S02 the whole thing started to feel staged very quickly and it was also filmed and then marketed in a specific way to lean into the k BL drama feel, that had ppl 'shipping' as if they were fictional characters and not real people. Also, unlike in BLB where the guys recognised and understood and discussed logical feelings and the lack thereof, in HM S02, the shallowness of the Korean aesthetic culture seemed to factor in more than real feelings. It felt like a k drama by the time I opted out.
I finally tried to watch this, managed a little more than half of the first ep and I literally just can't with this show π I'm going no further. The frequency of snorting and cringe whenever they said 'alpha', just, I can't πππ they need to keep that stuff off televised media π
Ngl, ep 2 was pretty heavy on the tropes but still not bad to watch at all. I'm really enjoying all the character interactions. In this ep, I liked the bar scene the most, the way Phaya interjected himself into the situation with the drinks thing. He was being a bit of a dick, but not in a terrible way. It was funny and smooth and jealously petty all at once.
BLB pre-production meeting: From the back of the table: Wait, wait, so we're not actually eliminating anyone?? Another someone: No, it's just a fake out to make the contestants emotional and vulnerable so they'll feel feels and express themselves hella. We can't actually send someone home, this is not Survivor. Pfft. From the back of the table: ...??? Someone: Oooookay, so episode 9... what do we do? Something to do with sharing their feelings more? Someone else: Sounds good. Another someone: Yep. Others: Okay / Yeah. / Sure. / Why Not. / That should work. From the back of the table: *sighs* Okay, fine, but, like, lets also give them alcohol maybe, you know, to change things up a bit. Everyone else: .....
Weeks later during filming: Entire crew: Well, shi-
Ahem, this doesn't actually feel like a dating show, not really, and actually that is better I think. Dating shows often feel shallow, but these guys really went and spilled their emotional guts and I reckon they will have some lasting friendships with each other, if not romantic relationships, after this. I find Eri has been the most likeable and just generally all around genuine person here, so I'm glad he gets to walk away with a friendship like the one he has with Bobo, because it's awesome. And unlike His Man S02, I actually intend to watch this to the end because it feels more real and not 'shipped' and staged like a bizarre K-drama.
The Susu liking Bobo thing came out of left field though, did not see that coming at all.
Every now and then I go back and watch clips of ep 5 and 7 just because I randomly recall that even though the actual story of Big Dragon was a mess, the chemistry between MosBank was off the charts.
Brilliant episode. Really fantastic pacing. Both MLs and Phojai were fantastic in this ep, but I like Gee too. I also think the dialogue is well done and the build up is interesting. Touches are normal when they're normal and then emphasised only when it matters, and not in an overkill way either. So even though I skipped the singing and despite Mhok not believably driving that car with his eyes off the road so long π it was still aces.
Glad to read a review like this, because you're right about a show hitting high reviews based on ship hype. With…
Yeah, exactly. I think objectivity is important. It's like, I'm not a fan of OffGun, but Not Me was a good show. And even though I am a fan of MosBank, I can plainly admit Bad Dragon had some major flaws and issues, and when Sunset Vibes drops, if it's a mess, I'm still gonna' like MosBank, but I'll be honest about my opinion on the show. It's fine to be a fan of a ship or an actor/actress or whatever, but people shouldn't convince themselves that everything their faves do passes muster and make excuses for bad content. Imo α(ββΈβΌβΆ)α
i know this show is going to be super hyped and high rated no matter if it's good or not because it's off gun…
Glad to read a review like this, because you're right about a show hitting high reviews based on ship hype. With shows like The Sign and Last Twilight dropping such great first eps, what you've described here sounds mediocre and rushed for such a hyped show, especially to be making basic continuity mistakes. I haven't watched ep 1 yet but I'm in no hurry since I'm not a fan of the ship either. I don't mind them, but that's about it. And the trailer also gave me 'meh' vibes. Maybe I'll wait for a few eps before I bother.
what is this good night thing... idont exactly get it! saw it other thai shows as well
Is it a thing? I haven't noticed anything, I just thought it was adorable in this show how Mhok waited to see if Day would check, and then it was cute that after he teased him he made a point of saying 'good night' himself, as if to make it up to him, that was sweet and funny. Is 'good night' a new trend? Thai BL's love their trends π
Nice nice. Seriously, it's great to see a more mature and serious storyline in a BL that is directed and acted well. I just commented somewhere on this site other day that a BL story should have a plot which may include a love story, but not just be a love story which eclipses the story plot entirely. I feel like this first episode was giving the former vibes, which was nice to watch. I can't say I'm sold on the supernatural angle though, the water scene had me squinting like 'wtf' because I thought the psychic thing was the extent of it from the tags but then, well, the water scene lol but it's not a dealbreaker for me.
Extra Notes: - Chart would make an awful cop, he has 'sell out his partner' and 'stab a colleague in the back' written all over his shady ass. - Fun dynamic between Phaya and Tharn, it'll be good to watch it develop further - Yai's body deserves individual kudos, because DAYUM. - I look forward to seeing absolutely NO UNIVERSITY UNIFORMS in this, fingers crossed.

But that is just my opinion.
