Why don't you look at the ratings instead of comments. 7.9 is a very good rating. And comments on MDL are mixed…
I decided to stop at ep 5 because it was a struggle to watch, the show is all over the place. Also, half through a series and still not looking up, usually means it won't and the ongoing comments seem to confirm that. So it's a no from me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
WELP I haven't watched the latest two episodes and I came here to check out the comments to see if I should keep going and yeah, nope, I'm dropping this. Sounds like it is actually the mess it was shaping up to be when I was still watching. RIP King's fantastic footwear.
I don't think it's on Netflix, you can find it officially on LineTV (VPN needed if you're not from Thailand) and some unofficial hosting sites like Dramacool.
I've just rewatched this series (because it's my fave and I still think it's one of the best BL series) and I wanted to leave this comment here about Korn's actions in this second season.
I'd still recc TWM and The Next Chapter to anyone, MaxTul® are unrivaled in BL imo and this show still holds up today.
glad you pointed out uea's personality. like what is up with his sense of entitlement. also, how did he make it…
It's beyond entitlement at this point, he's acting like he's doing King a favour just by existing. Unfortunately King is acting like Uea is doing him a favour too. Which, just, it's a no from me. I think the problem with Uea as a 'victim' character is that he acts like a pretentious jerk outside of the trauma story line. Hard to like a character with an attitude like that and harder to sympathize.
I'm just rewatching TWM and The Next Chapter and wondering whether I'd ever see Maxtul® on screen together in a drama again (hopefully a TWM third part) but if this really happens, even though Manner of Death is not my fave show, I will definitely absolutely positively watch this show. Let's have it!
Beginning of the Episode: King: I was a good boy, can I get a reward? Uea: No, that's how it's supposed to be, not taking advantage of me. Me: EVERYBODY LIKED THAT!
End of the Episode: Me: Okay then...
Preview of Next Episode: Me: What is even happening???
On another note, some great shots of King's leather boots early on in the ep, very, very nice. I am really glad those takeaway coffee cups are empty AF though, or else there'd be coffee, like, just everywhere (including on those fantastic shoes) with the way man's handling that cup. I forgive him for his weak prop use though, because his awesome bomber jacket compensated for about 25% of whatever this episode was actually trying to achieve. 100 points to the wardrobe department!
Uea's mother has selective deafness, I think that's pretty clear by now. She didn't hear him yell because she…
Hm, maybe I will give Taxi Driver a skip. I still haven't even been able to finish Bad & Crazy, something about the story lines of the Korean 'fast paced' action dramas are more miss than hit. Although Extracurricular was fantastic! For me, a show has to have a good all around on at least a basic level, in whatever genre it is. Liking at least one MC is also important, if I like no one, I watch nothing. I'm so picky, I know that.
Amazingly, I've somehow managed to overlook Theory of Love about thirty times. But maybe this will be the time I actually try it. I just finished Blueming (which, not tropey and really healthy, straightforward communication and conflict resolution, looking forward to season 2) and I've got My Secret Love lined up, which is a newish Thai drama, so not sure how that'll go xD
AToTS I have also skipped over many times, the poster image always looked too bland. Also, when I see so many characters I get tense about second and third and fourth pairs. I can handle a second pair, but if there are too many pairs, I lose interest real fast. So, serious question, in AToTS and MC, how many pairings are there. My Secret Love also has many people on the poster, so my expectations aren't high.
The Devil Judge, I looked at it. I like the write up and skimmed the comments. Not bad. Seems like no romance, but strong bromance. Yeah, I'll be adding that to my list. WoH is a no no for me, I don't like the actor, the one from Advance Bravely, I can't look past him. So I'll steer clear of that many episodes of him. AB was difficult enough for me 😂 I have heard that it's more BL-ish than TU though, that they pushed the margin, lucky for the fans hehe. And yeah, and drew too much attention. But even though I won't watch it, I don't want to view the show in a bad light, you know? Same as I won't blame Addicted and the TU actor fanfic drama that drew too much attention to the BL/slash scene in China. I'll just be over here waiting, but assuming I may never get to see Immorality and the TGCF Eternal Faith adaptation because of the ban, but I have my hope. 🥹 Chen Fei Yu 🥹 A live action HuaCheng 🥹 hopefully one day.
I won't try to recc anything to you since you're list is longer than mine, I assume you've probably watched anything I can mention xD
Uea's mother has selective deafness, I think that's pretty clear by now. She didn't hear him yell because she…
That's a lot of assuming for viewers to do about Uea's home and neighbourhood circumstances after 4 episodes though, hence me thinking the writing of the script is poor. And the sister was present for the mother's abuse, they showed that, which is why I said she may be stupid, asking him to visit home when she could go and see him or meet him somewhere for his birthday. Basic reasoning is lacking in a part of the plot that is supposed to be taken seriously.
As for the tropes, I know Thai BL runs the gamut on that front. I don't go into the shows expecting my mind to be blown or anything and if a trope isn't over done, it doesn't even annoy me. Like Bad Buddy, there were tropes in there too, but the show wasn't over saturated with it. I skip and drop more and more Thai BL though because after they've produced SO MUCH all these years, you'd think they'd realize they can be more realistic and natural in their presentation of the stories and characters. I Told Sunset About You was okay, but I dropped the sequel, it got too boring.
My first specifically Thai BL was Together With Me, I randomly came across it and decided to watch it years ago, I had no expectations otherwise, and I was pleasantly surprised by the chemistry of the main pairing, the humor and overall acting of the entire cast. It was good enough to make the director drawbacks, tropes and minimal budget seem minor. Since then, despite the budgets, character 'attractiveness', sexy scenes and aesthetics having more and more focus, the actual stories get weaker and weaker.
The mafia and bad boy plots are definitely overkill lately, just terrible in some cases 😂 but they don't bother me half as much as the simp meets entitled brat trope. If King keeps this up, I will def drop the show.
Btw, I see you've watch Taxi Driver, I've been considering watching it, would you recc it?
So, my interest has begun to dwindle. With all the poor directing, the camera man's reflection in the bathroom mirror and the shallow tropeyness and disconnected editing of the scenes and the 'plot', there doesn't seem to be much to stick around for.
I mean, they stare at each other a lot, for like, no reason, and their sexy scenes are borderline awkward more often that not, also ill timed. As for the flashback scene of Uea and his uncle, how exactly his literally loud shouting and crying was unheard by even the neighbours, let alone his trash mom not hearing it, baffles me. Even her angrily storming into his room to see why he was making a noise to yell at him would have made more sense than no one hearing that ruckus. The whole thing lost me a little. Especially when in contrast, in the present day scene he quietly says 'let go of me' instead of yelling 'get your mothereffing hands off me' to make Uncle pervo back off. Although Uncle pervo is very brazen and doesn't seem to be shy about his grabby hands. Why's he so ballsy? Does trash mom know about Uncle Pervo? Does cute, but possibly stupid, sister know? Wtaf? I didn't read the book or whatever came first, but yeesh. Who wrote this script?
Well at least Uea's orange T-shirt matched King's decor very nicely when he randomly avoided the couch and lied down on the floor for no apparent reason. The set and costume designers have their ducks in a row. Very aesthetically on point, despite not making sense.
Also, I'm just gonna' say it. I don't like Uea, his personality is off putting, his trauma storyline notwithstanding. And from the preview, it seems King's gonna' start simping for him. In general, I don't like the simp trope, but it's always worse when the person being simped over isn't worthy of it.
Finally, a highlight! King actually ran a hand through his hair! It was a breakthrough scene if you ask me. Most natural scene yet. But his footwear didn't feature enough, although they looked quite nice when he nearly fell after punching Pock. It didn't look like a very hard punch, but Uea claimed it was and he did blow on King's knuckles to sooth the pain...because that's apparently a thing. King seemed to apply this technique to Uea's bruises too. Hm.
There is some serious characterization whiplash going on here. Same goes for the scene tone changes, going from lighthearted to heavy way too suddenly. So yeah, a bit all over the place. Some amusingly redundant scenes made me laugh though, like King wanting to Dry Uea's hair. Like, seriously? Man, that hair is DRYYYY. Not even all that product made it look wet. And when King barely touched Gun's head, he be like 'YO, WHY YOU HIT ME?' haha. what? No, come on, those scenes are weak. The whole club scene was weak actually. Also, not sure if Pock wants to get Uea back, beat him up or assault him. Whiplash all up and down.
On a pleasant note, the actor who plays King is ten kinds of fine. The only thing more attractive than him are his shoes. Dayum, his footwear is fantastic. Needs more focus in the scenes. I'll keep watching, I don't hate it...yet.
This got pulled because they tried to make there own version of top gun and the actual chinese airforce watched…
I don't even know how true this is, but seriously, Top Gun; Maverick specifically is one of the best movies of the last decade. Even if Born to Fly is super accurate or whatever with great CGI, it's not gonna' be Top Gun on any level. Still would give it a watch I guess.
