About to head on to Ep20 and ngl, all the 'close calls' for main characters getting hurt and the last second saves are getting a bit old. It is okay for main characters to get hurt, it's actually good for a story and character development, any writer should know that. But it's 39 eps long, so there is time still, and I'm hoping to see some escalation in the plot regarding actual character danger and risk. I'd really like to see things get hectic for all three main characters. Come on Luoyang, give us some real suspense.
Additionally, Liu Ran is finally starting to get on my nerves. I ignored her for the most part, but then when she was in more scenes, I thought there was some point to her character, and that her untimely appearances and nagging would contribute to the plot, but she's turning out to be a bit of an outdated typical female hindrance character. The onus for that is on the author of the original book I suppose. Nothing against the actress, she's nailing the role for what it is.
I'd like to see more fight/action scenes with Yue though, she's good at those scenes, as is Gao Bingzhu, but he needs to go rogue/wild again, he's too refined right now, I'm keen to see him throw down again. Baili's character development is being heavily stifled by the awkward side romance. One minute he's unraveling a major conspiracy, the next he's dealing with trivial domestic issues.
But there is still time, 39 eps and over all, still not a bad watch. Will keep going, will hope it gets better.
Ok, I can't do this anymore.I'm not a big fan of Chinese dramas specially historical ones, and believe me, no…
Yeah, 50 eps at once sounds like a lot...at once. ๐ But when you think about, almost all (western) TV shows with four or five seasons run up that number, sometimes more if there are more seasons. But I understand what you mean. I remember the time way back when a single season of a show was 24 eps and I was like ๐ฉ I'd suggest you just treat it like there are seasons. If you break it up in 13 or so binge eps, then it's somewhere average in season viewing, and breaking it up at eps 13/26/40 and then watching the remaining eps, maybe a month or more apart, it'll be like you're watching a show airing in parts. And those particular episode breaks leave a sort of 'open cliffhanger' vibe. Maybe it would build your anticipation ๐
I'm a bit disappointed, this is my first SDC, but I feel like the judging is very skewed towards who they think…
I'm over here wondering how people like Nelson and Zyko dancing when I find them so lacking and this comment is so far in the opposite direction ๐ as someone who isn't Chinese and likes dance [excluding all opinions on my preference of best captain and the show itself], I feel like some of the foreign dancers are great, but many of them are pretty bleh. It's no good to think they're great just because they're foreign. A lot of the Chinese dancers are better, and some of the foreign ones are. I think that the foreign judges made some bad choices in the group battles specifically because they favoured the foreign dancers. But it's all just opinion. Sat's eliminations are gonna be harsh, and I'm expecting to see a lot of foreign dancers I don't find impressive make it through. But that's just how it is ๐คทโโ
The conversations are entertaining and all that, but the editing is awful. Whoever thought long moments of no audio and random sound effects was a good idea needs to stop.
Couldnโt agree more! I cannot understand their decision and at some point I felt bad for the team that put in…
Yeaaah, I remember that, Liangliang even said "they're looking for techniques incorporated" as if SDC is a variety talent show, cause you know, in the street dance scene, apparently how you set up your stage matters ๐ Dianmen also 'won' over MT-Pop, I didn't agree with that judgement either, the late roll and wave movements weren't over all more impressive than MT-Pop's dancing imo. And then later when Nelson was as stiff as hell in his popping, suddenly the very stiff movements were favoured. The judging was off the mark majority of the time.
not sure if this needs to be pointed out but: the whole show consists of foreigners. i think you rather mean that…
Disagreeing with them because of their judging mentality๐not because they're foreign. Them being foreign just happens to be a good way to refer to them collectively, because they all happen to be foreign this year.

Yep, at some points there was a clear difference between dancing and gimmick and origin 'status' of the dancers. For example, they chose Kenken's choreography over Taotao's, and Momo's fan and chair scenario impressed them more than the over all atmosphere of Brandon's aggressive choreography. The King battles were some of the most disappointing. The best, clearest decision the judges made in EP2 was Yixing's final victory for the the 5v5. These are just my opinions though.
True! I hope another judges who is active in street dancing will join on the next episode. I don't hate them but…
I don't have anything against them personally either. But they should have been judging based on dancing and concept (aka gimmick), not just concept alone. The past two episodes they've heavily favoured the gimmicky side of performances in most battles, ignoring the actual technical flow, atmosphere and detail in the dance routines, especially the group synchronicity and difficulty. As a fan of dance itself (all Captains aside), I was getting pretty annoyed with those judges ๐ Glad they're gone!
Good opening ep. The battle atmosphere felt a little formal at certain points and the new judges don't look like they actually enjoy watching dancing ๐ but over all a great start to the season. Good twist to dancer selection. Probably should expect more twists along the way, which will be fun. Looking forward to episode 2.
