The scenario, shots and acting are great, but the editing... is really terrible. It's a first for me to be so…
The style of filming in ep 6 is intended to feel that way, uneven, out of sync, because JW is a character that feels very disjointed from the beginning. His feelings, his actions and his reactions are 'broken' because of what he's dealing with, and we see JH trying to navigate it and we as an audience are trying to navigate it. In order to bring us into the feeling, the cuts between good and bad, hot and cold, and intimacy and separation are meant to make us feel all over the place. When someone's emotions are so unstable (and medicated on top of it), even happy moments can feel sad, and sad moments can feel painful but still good in a way that's bittersweet or euphoric or exaggerated, and precious time spent together with someone can feel like a blur, too distant, too close, moving too fast or too slow.
I personally feel like we were mostly in JH's pov until the bit at the end when they finally went surfing, and at that moment, we're pulled under with the current, into the dangerous water in those beautiful ocean shots, dragged right in to the turbulence of JW's feelings. I LOVE it......
I'm probably the only one with this opinion, but for me this show peaked around episode 5 and after that I kept watching and wondering when the show would reach the arc in which the point made itself known. But it seemed the arc came and went and I felt nothing, I was actually pretty bored. Over all, it felt like an exercise in how to waste 10+ hours of screen time. It's probably just down to taste of course, and the point of this drama, which was mostly to do with this kid getting a second chance and discovering himself while learning some moving life lesson, is not for me. I liked Phupha (Earth) though. Underutilized character.
I really enjoyed this, enough that I even reviewed it and would recc it to others. It seems to be underrated if you ask me. Watch this BL guys, it's a short, sweet treat with good chemistry.
PS: I like how both the ML's are trying so hard to give off 'I love you bro, no homo' vibes at first, while actually having a healthy amount of chemistry/ust from the very beginning.
the skam parallels are strong... the same iconic pose in the poster + one of MLs have a mental issue w an attached…
The filming style as well, I mentioned in an earlier comment, is very European in general, and I love it. But yeah, I agree some elements feel remnant of the style and story of Skam, but like in the different Skam shows, the story is changed here and there so it's still very interesting. Fun.
What man uses bubble bath? Should have been clear water. *wink*
I'm just glad they actually showed his hair getting wet. In other shows they only get wet up to their collar bones so their hair stays 'perfect', like that's normal when bathing. 😂
The play fighting thing is pretty lame, it's empty, lazy filler when writers don't know how to bring their characters physically closer, lacks imagination. On a better note, the 'Can I kiss you line?' is underrated and under used and so many shows miss the opportunity to apply it in order to set the right mood and course for a pairing. I was actually hoping Gun would ask, especially since Laem avoided kissing a few times.
This show feels pretty slice of life though, which is noice for a change.
I like his other name more, Laem, but yeah he's cute, self-assured and straightforward, which is good, refreshing. He stands out and stands up and isn't meek. Ep 4 now, this show is good so far. Glad I decided to watch it.
Still the K-bls are getting lower ratings than the Thai BLs !! It should be more than a 8.1 according to me
Maybe it's because Thai BL's are doing the so called R18 thing, which attracts a lot of attention I've noticed. But I dunno. But personally, I'll take a show that gives me quality couple chemistry and organic relationship development over 'steamy' scenes any day. Less appearance pageantry is also welcome.
It's interesting you point this out, because to me, this filming/editing style and their interactions feel comfortable…
But after the kiss there was a whole lot to be interpreted in the looks they shared. The style of growing attraction and intimacy is far more subtle in this (which I love) and both male leads are reserved (which I love too). From my perspective, I felt like JW was uncertain of how his actions were received because they'd both been drinking when they kissed, and with each time they crossed paths after that, before the train meeting, he was trying to get an idea of whether JH was feeling negatively or positively about it. Continuously, JH kept making eye contact with him though, which was important. Then, in the cafeteria, when JP talked to JW so boldly and basically made it seem like JH had been saying good things about him, notice that after JW walked away, he turned around a looked and nodded, smiled a bit. To me, that was a turning point where he gained more confidence, took it as a positive interaction and decided that his interest and further pursuit of JH would not be unwelcome.
I also think it was implied that JW was aware of JH's movements, knowing where his dorm and work place are, and that's how he found him at the train station and then showed up after JH's shift in Ep4.
I have really been enjoying this so far, but I found the last ep a bit baffling. It’s unclear how the awkwardness…
It's interesting you point this out, because to me, this filming/editing style and their interactions feel comfortable and appealing, the pacing in scenes between the ML's and even the other characters as well feel pretty natural. And I love the lack of excess music and drawn out 'moments'. I was actually wondering if it's got any European influence, and then I checked and saw that it's got a non-Korean person involved in the directing and screenwriting. I don't know who that dude is or if he has any impact on the style of the show, but I really like this so far. It had me from episode one.

I LOVE it......
I'll stop now.
That might explain the soft, quietish Isak vibe he has going on.
I liked Phupha (Earth) though. Underutilized character.

This is just my view point though.
