After some time, I've decided this pairing of ML's were wasted on this show. Maybe like some other BL actor pairs, they will appear in a different show in future, something better quality.
Basically; It's very aesthetically pleasing and soft and sweet and funny and stuff and it stayed in all the safe zones and checked all the primary boxes for a good normal love story. Nothing too dramatically angsty happens and it has all the makings for something lovey dovey and healthy with an established relationship vibe. The dialogue is quite nice too. And all of that is great, I usually enjoy it, EXCEPT the two ML's don't follow through at all imo.I think they came across better without any couple actions, because they look great individually and they acted well individually, but having to hug or kiss each other they just looked stiff and uncomfortable. And they hugged a lot, and oftentimes it just felt out of place, i.e: forced.
Their best, more natural moments were in the first ep, the first 'tester' lean in and ep 10 where they held hands to leave the bathroom together. That was the height of it.
PS: The second pairing is far better, thank you Won Tae Min, for being awesome with actually getting into the character of Hotae and depicting his interest and feelings for Donghee so well even without many physical scenes and less screen time.
The comments here are so chaotic and extreme in both directions. Tropes exist for a reason though, and so do stereotypes. I think it depends on how these things are depicted that determines whether they're good to watch or not. I think this show is truly a gem on all fronts. For anyone interested, here's how I see it is;
JW is struggling with PTSD, and meds don't solve everything, but even so, he's been off his meds which is not helping his situation. He plainly said to his shrink he hasn't even picked up his prescription in a month. So he's trying to deal with it and he's under a lot of pressure with a lot of trash people around him making his life difficult, and imo, he's trying not drag JH into it because JW can't guarantee he won't end up hurting him. But the surfing trip and them sleeping together already caused JH to be emotionally invested, so he's getting hurt emotionally now anyway.
JH however, is both fantastic for wanting to be so determined and loyal, but also a little naive to think that love and feelings trump all else. But he seems to be a very adaptive, levelheaded and strong willed character and he's also reasonable and logical. He's says JW might be confused, and maybe he's thinking it's about the fact that they're both guys because he doesn't know JW's deeper issues, but I think those positive traits will pay off for JH in the end and he will not be easily pushed aside.
TH is just a shitty friend. These are not uncommon, dime a dozen. Money makes people funny too. And he's so plainly jealous of JW for having so much 'fortune and privilege' and he's getting nastier about it and once he finds out JW's not straight, I'm guessing he's going to be even worse. If the writers some how turn him around , I'd be surprised.
EJ is the same if you ask me. From my perspective she's just a 'gold digger' for lack of a better term. JW is the 'it' guy socially and he's rich and she doesn't want to let that go. She also has a high opinion of herself, so since she had him before, she feels entitled to him. She hasn't actually shown any signs of really liking him, or even any real emotion besides getting jealous and angry, so her feelings are very shallow. He's been very direct with her too, but she won't quit. Again, this type of behaviour is not uncommon. Also, some women really struggle to accept their male partners being gay, or bi, and especially if they choose a man over them. It can sometimes be homophobia or being personally offended/insulted, but it can also be affected by culture, and I think this show is touching on that too.
The cultural thing also impacts the whole 'senior' and 'junior' thing. In some places, to some people, that kind of tradition still matters despite the year we live in and progression of the world. They had a similar show down in Young Royals season 2, when a younger student challenged the senior respect tradition in his very traditional school, and upset many people, and that's a Swedish show. So it's still happening in different parts of the world where people think they need to be respected just because they're older.
This show is touching on quite a few existing stereotypes and tropes, sure, but they're doing it SO WELL. I'm here for it.
For anyone wondering about JH's accident, I'll leave my assumption under a spoiler.
He probably fractured his neck. It's a very dangerous injury and can lead to paralysis or death, but not always, depends on severity and also which part of the spine is injured. It also takes approx a month to 6 weeks (sometimes longer) to heal. It can happen when surfing, especially if the waves tossed him and his surf board hit him in the head in the turbulence.
I'm curious about the accident? They didn't mention what actually happened right...or did I just miss it?

DAYUM, this show has not only raised the bar, IT'S BECOMING THE WHOLE STANDARD. If it hits you in the feels, you know it's damn good. And I like my entertainment with a side of angst, thanks.
PS: Eun Ji is not just a clown, she is THE WHOLE CIRCUS.
I don't think it was an accident, especially with how he followed him down into the subway and sat across from him. JW knows where JH's dorm and workplace are, if he was interested in finding him, it wouldn't have been difficult. Just like how he shows up at the end of ep 4, first claiming he was going to the dorm, but then he admits he'd seen JH working and decided to be waiting for him.
Interesting … never thought of this before, I was always sure Jihyun is the first guy Jaewon fell in love with.…
I expect so. I don't think he's even ashamed or feels weird about it because he's not exactly subtle around Ji Hyun sometimes. To me, he just seems (justifiably) wary of his a-hole friends finding out. He's surrounded by some trash people afterall, even his mother and father seem to be crappy toward him. I also think he already told his psychiatrist because she didn't even hesitate to suggest he make the relationship deeper between him and his 'new friend', despite the fact that he was talking about a guy, and he didn't seem uncomfortable with her suggestion either.
Of course 'deeper' is open to interpretation, she could be meaning they should be BFF's, although no really, right? 😂

I think it's possible he told her directly before going to the military that he is, or was discovering at the time, that he was gay. To me she seems to be in denial, purposely avoiding facing it because she can't accept it. In ep 2 when they talk on the beach, I felt like he was clearly not talking about the thing of her 'cheating'. It was like two different convos. He even says 'do you think I can't say it?' And he says that he never told anyone why they broke up, even though everyone seems to know the rumour that she cheated. He also says he's being courteous for her sake, and she just kept avoiding it. She can't deal.
I'm a little surprised by by a rating of only 8. This series so far surpasses any other shows out there right…
I think some people are struggling with getting into the film and story style which is causing some negativity. It's a pity, but I hope people ignore the rating and watch it anyway because it's AMAZING.
I'm sure they've taken reference from SKAM. Like Even is bipolar and has manic episodes and Isak eventually becomes…
Yeah, I'd say it's definitely inspired by SKAM, probably specifically the original Norwegian one because there are many parallels between Evan/Isak and Jae Won and Ji Hyun so far. But I like how the writers have also set out to make it different, make it stand out on its own by changing/adapting those key SKAM moments. And I love the surfing theme and the music too. I really like that despite the clear influence, the actors are bringing their own intense chemistry to the story. They are so great together, so natural. I don't know if we'll ever get an actual SK SKAM in future, like we did from multiple countries, but if not, I'll take this in its place!
Oh this was so episode 8-coded! The whole hotel scene gave me the Skam vibes and the shocking ending had the same…
Yes! I was, and we just have to tell ourselves it'll be okay haha I also noticed the hoodie with the denim jacket combo, it gave me Evan feels xD he most often wore the denim jacket with the hoodie like that.
Have you managed to watch it yet, or do you still want spoilers?
Ah okay :) I'm not sure if you're into political/war movies, but basically TL and WY are part of a small group working inside the enemy's camp as non-communists, in order to find an advantage to win for their real side, the communists.
The movie's cinematography keeps the events confusing with a non-linear timeline, and also leaves the viewer unsure which side WY is actually working for. There are some internal conflicts as well, and a great fight scene between Tony and Yibo which ultimately leads to Tony being captured as WY's character is working with the Japanese, one of the high ranking officers of which trusts him a lot.
In the end, when Japan surrenders after defeat in the long run, WY, along with Japanese soldiers are arrested and Tony (along with all Chinese prisoners, are released). Then the 'twist' comes at the end in which WY reveals to the Japanese high ranking officer that he was actually working inside the Japanese camp to bring them down.
WY is then released as well. Neither he nor Tony's characters die.
(since I can see how much you want to watch it, I tried not to over spoil it, just giving you the basic break down of the plot events and answering whether they die! If you want more in depth spoilers, the review section might have it, I have also reviewed this movie. I hope you'll get to see it soon too!)
This was so much better than that 1000 stars show guys, seriously. The acting, story and over all vibe is good in this. Real down to earth stories and scenarios and it was interesting and well acted and not drawn out painfully.
I don't really personally like the ML actors together (Earth & Mix), I feel like their flirting game is on point for sure, but physically I don't think they have good chemistry. But I enjoyed this show.
Just rewatched ep 6, and I wanted to point out that it's still bringing the SKAM vibes at the end, except the roles are reversed, which is keeping it fresh and interesting. Just hang in there guys!
SKAM WTfock was my favorite, and even though I knew it was coming, I still remember how episode 8 hit me in the feels when a similar effed up ending happened right after a really good high moment. It's all a part of the ride.
