I understand what you mean, personally I also wouldn't have a problem with the presence of a straight couple in…
Oh I get it, I have my fandoms outside of BL where I get super fucking mad if they screw things up in the adaptations, but if it's not done badly, if they actually bring quality, I don't mind. Do you have any idea how many changes have been made to Deadpool in the movie adaptations versus the comic? (probably not) but while I still love comic Deadpool more, I also love the movies because the adaptations were done so well, no matter how much major shit they changed and left out (and they changed and left out A LOT), the movies are still amazing. This is also the reason I can enjoy certain well done censored BL's that come out of China, because it's gotta be about quality imo. If they change something, don't eff it up. And the start of this BL is giving something quality. Do the webtoon readers disagree? ML casting, acting, pacing? All good so far, nay?
Also, the comments I see here are not saying 'why is a non canon main couple being written in while a canon main couple is removed', the comments are complaining because it's a straight couple replacing it, so if it were a gay couple, it wouldn't be snowing in the comments? Nah man. As you mentioned, as long as the main BL couple is prioritized, then the writers are doing their job, for all the rest, there's the ff button or the drop option.
Some ๐คกs through the years: We don't want to see gay people love stories in our shows! Other ๐คกs in modern times: We don't want to see straight people love stories in our shows!
You're the SAME kinda problem people. lol What world ya'll living in? You want inclusive sexuality, this is it. Gay people exist and so do straight people. ๐๐๐๐ GMMTV BLs may make every male in their series gay but that's their (bad) creative choice. There's a ff button if ya'll don't want to see side couples, (BL/GL/BG/pineapples and pens/whatever the fuck else) just ff. These comment sections are always snowing.
Korn, by far. He is a big, physically imposing man with a heart bigger than his physique. His love for Knock is…
Ah, yes, no I would not have recommended for you to watch it. I recall from previous messages you do not like Thai BLs. Your comment just reminded me of Pond, who, yes, has improved, but he is still being wasted on GMMTV's puerile and asinine BLs, like We Are (ugh).
In FUTS, I agree, Neo was hilarious, his laugh was particularly infectious. He too, is wasted by GMMTV. As for BL lengths, (specifically Thai), honestly, they could all be summed up in six 40 min eps, but depending on the viewers preferences, the filler is welcomed or not. I'm the former for TWM, I didn't mind the filler.
Korn, by far. He is a big, physically imposing man with a heart bigger than his physique. His love for Knock is…
"He is a big, physically imposing man with a heart bigger than his physique. His love for Knock is never in doubt." ~~ I'm a fan of Max (as Korn) to be sure (hence the reason I come back to TWM from time to time), and I agree with this description, but this description also brings to mind the BL actor Pond Naravit, especially in his role in Never Let Me Go. He is big guy, 6ft, imposing, but in NLMG he is dedicated to his partner through a lot of shit and he comes across as being soft in many ways, and willing to be hurt for his partner no matter how he is treated sometimes. Totally different types of BLs with different stories, TWM being more realistic and a much better BL, but both entertaining. Max is the better actor of the two, but Pond has potential (that GMMTV will probably waste).
Well, that was something. It was a VERY overdramatic love story with these two ML characters who (in the case of Cir especially) didn't really seem to have much reason to fall so desperately, crazy in love with Phu, other than having a fucked up home life so he just latched on to the first lost soul who defended him? Or they were soulmates? But okay, that's fine, it was entertaining all the same. That trade war shit though, in the last episode, was super whack, made less sense than the trade war that Trump started, and the 'resolution' was whack too. Nice to see Mick at least.
As for the supernatural element, if it weren't for bro who hears people's thoughts, I would honestly have just pegged Cir for having D.I.D, but again, sure, it wasn't terrible, with the whole parallel universe thing, it didn't end up being an overbearing or too irritating facet of the story. This show managed to be entertaining and well enough acted that I have no regrets 10 episodes later.
It was still a better love story than Twilight, and definitely a better love story than LitA, and that OST is noice, it's going on the OST list on my profile for sure. 7.5.
It's so weird, isn't it? I don't understand what they're doing. They didn't to this to the Spirealm, they didn't…
" It might even be counterproductive as it might incite others to do the same with their shelved BL adaptations." ~~ THIS. People should not encourage and support this shit. For the sake of money, all those production companies who don't care about the story integrity will sell out. I'm not even interested in the currently fully filmed TGCF drama (due to my disinterest in the current MLs casting) that's being held back but if that get's butchered and released with HuaLian's relationship stripped to nothing, that'll be awful.
It's so weird, isn't it? I don't understand what they're doing. They didn't to this to the Spirealm, they didn't…
"Otherwise, the right course of action would have been to insist on buying the original version." ~~ exactly, if they cared about the integrity of the original show and cared about it getting aired as it was/should be to go against China's homophobic government, they wouldn't have bought it all hacked up like shit and de-gayed. I really don't think I'll be watching this. Wasted, honestly.
As for the non homophobic platforms, I feel like they might have turned it down BECAUSE it's been hacked up. I mean, why wouldn't they have taken it in the first place like they did for TS and Blue Canvas? The whole thing seems like the company that produced JitD were more than willing to go along with the no-homo agenda, which is pathetic. I feel bad for the actors wasted efforts, but the hacked up version of this isn't worth watching imo.
It's so weird, isn't it? I don't understand what they're doing. They didn't to this to the Spirealm, they didn't…
The Spirealm we got lucky because all 78 shortened eps dropped and were already distributed and well watched by the time the re-release came. Also, TS producers were smart to sell to platforms with no underlining homophobic agendas and Blue Canvas too. For all Japan has a booming 'yaoi' industry and they do the occasional BL, like SK, they're pretty homophobic at the core of the country, so they must have been happy to buy JitD as de-gayed as possible from China. Figured they'd make money on it whether it was BL or not. But I'm seriously thinking about nixing it from my list of things to watch. Such BS.
Apparently all the relationship development related scenes have been cut from the release of the original 8 eps and I'm really considering not even bothering continuing to watch this if it's gonna go on in that vein. I might as well drop it, because if it's just a non BL crime drama I can watch plenty of those elsewhere lol what a waste. They didn't even hack and strip Blue Canvas of My Youthful Days when they re-released it, and that's an actual BL. Wtf.
Like everyone, the first time I watched it, I was p.o'd about what Korn did, not only because it was obvs a sh*t thing to do, but also because it was very ooc for him. So at some point in the past, I ended up complaining to a writer friend of mine about it, and they said that when they watched it, their opinion was that from the perspective of writers, the season wasn't about Korn (or Yihwa's) actions so much as it was about Knock (and Cho's) REACTIONS to it.
They said it was likely that the point of only waiting until the end of the season to reveal the full scope of what happened to Korn (which Korn frustratingly only alludes to ONCE in Ep 11 when talking to Farm) or what Yihwa actually did, was for viewers to see just how dedicated Knock and Cho were to Korn and Yihwa, where even when thinking they'd been betrayed in such a terrible way, they both forgave and accepted Korn and Yihwa back. Especially since in TWM and BR, Korn seemed like such a shiny example of a partner and in BR Yihwa played so hard to get with Cho but fell so hard for him and seemed so dedicated.
So yeah, it was ooc for Korn with regards to S01, but for whatever reason, thinking of it from a perspective of revealing Knock's full dedication and love for Korn, kind of makes Knock seem like less of an a-hole, which he'd steadily been before.
I'd still recc TWM and The Next Chapter to anyone, MaxTulยฎ are unrivaled in BL imo and this show still holds up today.
If the director is as you said, then I feel this production is going to be in trouble. Unless they get a god level…
Ah okay, at least the author filled in some kind of info for the whole 'criminal' aspect, it's not totally random lol, like just making him a 'bad boy' for the sake of being a bad boy. So unoriginal. If he's a criminal I wanna see him being a criminal, you know?? The BL is always great and all but ffs, step up to the plot and follow through at least.
Once again I agree, this will be a step back if it's too poorly done. Tropey can survive if the tropes are at least 60% well executed ๐ If Pond is still studying and that's hindering him, then we'll wait and see, let him do what he's gotta do. With the right script, these two could be an even better watch that NLMG, even FUTS was deeper and better written than We Are, I'd hate to see them go even more backwards. Fingers crossed for sure๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค
Also, fingers crossed for changing that awful hairstyle. They need to style his hair like this https://i.pinimg.com/736x/f8/28/e5/f828e5031cc820170bb13f5208b59601.jpg especially now with the undercut he's just done, that'll look 'bad ass' and not like toy Lego hair stuck on his head. Who is in charge of these decisions???๐ญ๐
If the director is as you said, then I feel this production is going to be in trouble. Unless they get a god level…
I dunno whether to laugh or cry at how you describe this novel, it truly sounds like an exercise in patience to read it! How'd you get through it?? And how can someone write a character as a mafioso and then just glaze it over completely except for a default reminder ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ I REALLY hope they adapt the script better and add in at least some darker tones, depth and seriousness, or it's going to be super weak sauce.
Yes, NLMG was great, with dark tones but also many other elements that came together well, I also like the LUT choice, not that overly bright and happy and white washed lighting, it was suitable for the story. I agree a good script and a good director can save Me and Thee, just like how it did for TWM, which turned out great as a series. Compared to the shitty novel, the adaptation was miles and miles and miles better. But the current director for this, well, I don't got much hope. I will, like you, end up watching it for the ship (I mean, I suffered through We Are, so I'm sure I'll manage) but it'd be a waste of PondPhuwin, who we know can do so much better.
This is one of Japan's rare better BLs, they've taken a step away from their usual tropey way of doing things too, which for me was a pleasure to watch, because I drop a lot of JBLs that usually bore me. It's also only the 2nd JBL to go on my BL recc list. 8.5/10
It's actually not that deep. Gao Dawei is actually just a plot device created for the series, he doesn't exist…
Yep, all the doors in the series are in the novel, but there are some differences here and there. Also, just so there is no misunderstanding, I'll say again, there is no 12th door. Each player only strictly has to clear 11 of their own official doors. Any extra doors we see them enter in the series or read about the characters doing in the novel, are other peoples doors they enter to gain experience and 'farm' for useful items. When Qiushi gets to his final door, it is the 11th door, and then he exits the world of the doors.
The doors were likely changed due to censorship and maybe budget limitations. But I'd assume it's predominantly due to censorship, some things that happen in the doors involve more obvious relationship development between Nanzhu and Qiushi, so they probably skirted around it in certain ways.
If the director is as you said, then I feel this production is going to be in trouble. Unless they get a god level…
Just my opinion, but the original Thai novels for these adaptations are usually not very good, so watching the adaptations is always risky for what quality of content we'll get, but yeah, the director doesn't seem to have any previous work that I personally like. That just speaks for me though, not anyone else. But I would also be glad to be free of the 'school' era, and I'd also like a more serious story with darker tones considering there's 'mafia' involved, even with the humor included.
On a separate note, you actually just managed to make me more wary of watching it lol. If they make Pond the bottom character I will end up dropping it, no matter how much I like the pair. I'm a simple, old school, traditional slash fan, I like what I like. And in my fiction pairs, I prefer a fixed preset, if you know what I mean ๐
