Depicting something that happens in reality in a positive way is not promoting anything, it's exactly that: depicting. It's a different realistic aspect of life being portrayed through a fictional story, that's what many movies and series are. Now, if the show was glorifying that teacher/students relationships are just fantastic and should be the done thing, then it'd be problematic. Also, age and how the relationship develops are factors, both of which check out as being on the level in this BL.
Alternatively, if it's portrayed negatively in any BLs, that would be just as acceptable and realistic too, depending on how the story is written.
The main couple is giving me predatory / grooming vibes but I don't mind because in the gay reality, this is a…
Are people complaining? I haven't read comments further down, and I didn't really care in the show because Lu Hui is a high school senior. I can't believe people still whine about this stuff as if they live under a rock. Irl, and excluding specifically dubious exceptions, on average, 16 and 17 year old's have consenting sex with older people regularly, not even just in 'the gay reality', it happens with straight people too, it happens with all types of people at that age, occupations/status often notwithstanding. Most late aged teens aren't sleeping with other teenagers, that's reality. Imo, this is not the 'gasp' topic that so many people make it out to be.
Despite this not actually being a bad BL objectively, to me personally, it's so simple and pleasant and nice that it's actually dull. I cannot continue. At episode 5 I'm already zoning out. Don't be discouraged though, if basic 'nice' is your thing you'll enjoy it.
Finished watching this. Pretty much what's on the tin really. I enjoyed it well enough, first GL I've actually completed. It could have been more and this and more that, add in whatever adjectives you usually would for a romance/historical drama with some angst about how it could be improved, but as it stood, and despite some extra bits that felt a bit random and drawn out, it was fine as it was. If MDL allowed, I'd give it a 7.7 at least, but I'll settle for a 7.5 since it's not quite an 8. Overall, I don't regret watching it, even with the auto translate sub, it was interesting and the FLs were both very likeable. I watched it for Max, I stayed for the story.
My side opinion on the visuals: Suwanna was by the most attractive woman in the show. The actress has lovely features. I don't even remember her in Step by Step though. Weird.
I really want to start on this but I would like to know if there's a BL element to it? I have not seen a BL drama…
Just wear your no-homo goggles, the show is meant to be platonic bromance originally, so your goggles don't even need to be very thick. You'll be fine.
I don't watch that many Chinese dramas but this one was so good. Can anyone else recommed me similar dramas like…
The Spirealm is excellent.
But for suggestions, in the line of mystery and crime in a Cn censored BL, you're just in time, Justice In The Dark (which was nixed from airing a few years ago) is about to drop outside of China in it's full form, the complete 30 episode series (not just the 8 episodes we got and were left hanging by in the past). So that's gonna be great. https://kisskh.at/search?q=justice+in+the+dark
And bromance so good you could swear they're meant to be in love, with some action and some mystery, The Devil Judge is a big winner. https://kisskh.at/62087-the-demon-judge
Or you could just watch The Spirealm again, we've all been down that road.
as someone who watched the whole thing; trust me, the rest is worth it. I admit ep 8 and the island scenes were…
But, the point is, does it get any less predictable? They're obvs going to battle it out together, a team of four, against the final 'boss' after all making up, as if Fadel and Bison shouldn't hate and have killed (or at least hurt and ditched) Kant and Style with cold objectivity for their betrayal. Nah, the whole 'everything is beautiful and nothing hurts' style ending is not for me in a show like this. I liked the parts I did watch. Glad it was good for other though. It certainly had many highs and was a nice step away from the usual.
I'm gonna have to assume the rest didn't go totally down hill because I stopped at ep8 when the predictable dropped in and the direction of the show became obvs. Now I have no draw to go back so I dropped it. I didn't hate the 8 eps I did watch though, it was fun! They started out real well and doing something different, which was nice before the inevitable 'everything works out for the best' started to set in. Fun while it lasted.
Note: Farm was a university student when he met Bright. Not a minor.
The first scene with Farm is literally all of them on their first day after university 'initiation. And yes, the relationship was toxic, TWM is a BL from before everything became a trigger for sensitive viewers and needed to be sugar coated and layered in long stares and glowy filters. Unhealthy relationships happen regularly irl and it's good for variety that some BLs once represented that. Over all, what happened with Bright was Farm' s character arc and his bad experience went on to be the catalyst for his personal damage in S02. It was a specific character build, not meant to be viewed positively.
Have you watched season 2? She hasn’t been around for ages. Why would they bring her character back. A bit random,…
I did watch season 2 and was also disappointed she wasn't in it, her not being in it also had nothing to do with writing her out, her character was still very relevant and could easily have come back, so no, not random. I'm just disappointed, again.
Yes, it's number 2 on my personal all time fave BL Asian shows (as seen on my profile) and number 2 on my recc list of BLs worth watching. https://kisskh.at/list/4Ko6OAK4
Bromance is a legally obligatory term they have to use because of China's ban on gay media. The producers do their best to portray the non platonic relationship of the ML's without any overtly non platonic scenes in order to pass censorship (which The Spirealm did not hence it's not viewable in China). So it is not bromance. People who insist it's bromance are wearing their no-homo goggles to censor themselves while watching, or, they require physically obvious scenes to be satisfied. You can watch and determine how you feel. The show is good any which way ✌️

I guess I'll come back to check when it's halfway through airing or summat.
