So much like Pride and Prejudice for Kang Ning and Chai An. I thought this show adapted well, incorporating the cultural aspects because, in Chinese society, it is all about the family and not usually individual choices. Featuring the mothers and the daughters, with everyone assessing one another, judging, and taking sides.
It was a lovely messy affair to watch.

Lu Yu Xiao - I remember her from Blossoms in Adversity. Can't believe she is doing a lead role in a big production.…
Agree with @Chanel13, she was excellent in MJTY!

I don't think Madam Du cares since she openly said she wished she had another son to marry her. But I don't know about Du...he is quite calculative and particular like Kang Ning said.

🤣 Madame Li softened a bit. I only watched ep 9 so far. Ep 10 will have to wait till tonight. It better be…
It was satisfying! I thought Kang Ning was a little heartless, but I am glad that she and Chai An were able to honestly express their feelings about their families, and Kang Ning was able to tell him how prejudiced he was.

I guess so since they have to show what happened with the older sister.

Hasn’t that childhood friend already appeared. I don’t think she has any more plot left.
I am enjoying it, especially since the show is more of a satirical depiction of the way people think and behave at that time. Characters like the mother and the spineless husband now just make me laugh.

The scheming is fun, especially with people playing double agents and external/internal collusion.

The first couple Chai An and Kang Ning are perfect for each other. I enjoyed their romance - I liked the bit of slow burn but appreciate that it was moving along nicely. It's a good pace since we have other couples that we need to root for as well.

Give it a try - if you can stand the screechy mother who really was not that bad in the end. because her love for her daughters, redeemed her, then I think you might enjoy the rest of the episodes.

We are still pretty early in the show, so who knows what's to come.

Still at work. How were episodes 9 and 10 ?
You will enjoy the episodes. Ep 9 was a little stressful for me since I was rooting for the couple so much, but Ep 10 was very satisfying!

In the end it was Chai An’s good deeds that helped him.

Yes, karma will bite but it will also reward :D

Ep 9 and 10 were so much fun with all the scheming on behalf of the couple. It was also a little stressful wondering if they would ever get together! I love Chai An's smile when he finally got his wish ā¤ļø

Oh good, it would be nice to avoid that kind of trouble.

That's what I thought too. The childhood friend was Liu Ba Niang.

Looks like the oldest sister is still the wisest. I still ship her with Du Yang Xi.
Edit after ep 9 - she is also the most calculating. I’m a little annoyed at her. How dare she stand between our couple?

As a long time cdrama watcher, Im really enjoying this show. With Kang Ning and Chai An trying to outwit each…
I see both the mother and the spineless husband as caricatures, satirical portrayals of that period, and societal thinking. That's how I can tolerate them :D

Yeah, there are still the other couples to root for!

I think so, too. Of course, like any other show, there will be frustrating scenes, and we will want to vent, but there were and will be heart-fluttering moments. There will also be satisfying moments when we finally see our battling couple get married. I can't wait!

It's good to see that you are enjoying the show too.
I am surprised that this comment section is so controversial - it's like many of these commenters have never watched a historical drama :D

The show is most enjoyable when Kang Ning and Chai An are battling wits and actually talking to each other. It's better when they pull in other smart people who are good at scheming. I like that Liu Ba Niang - too bad Chai An and Kang Ning have no brothers that I can ship her with.
