I find all the comments here so interesting to read and wanted to throw my thoughts into the void about MX (copied…
Very good points! The fact that we are debating so much about MX is proof that this character was well written. She is certainly not one dimensional! I’m one of those who do not like MX but I enjoy watching her. There are things that I can admire about her, and other things that I absolutely deplore. Ultimately there’s a reason why I keep watching this show, and it’s all the characters, putting together a very messy yet incredibly engaging show.
Ep 30 was a little draggy but necessary to reveal more of CWD to MX. Glad that her misunderstandings of him were being cleared up gradually. Respect for CWD - no wonder he treasured his men more than his life! FY was as whiny and self-victimizing as usual - all her should haves, could haves, would haves…I may not be impressed with her character but I think the actress WYW did a great job, portraying someone totally different from the roles she usually plays. WJG and WY - not much to say about them this time…WJG still as useless as ever. So happy that FY was there to remind him of that! Kind of hoping that WY will do the his usual thing and sabotage WJG, while helping CWD with MX indirectly 😁
I don’t like MX not because of how she’s treating CWD but because she seems capable of betraying anybody.…
You dislike MX more than me 😆 You’re right about separating the characters from the actors playing them. I think they all did well including Wang Yu Wen (FY). She usually plays stronger FLs so FY’s character is different for her.

Yeah, we knew the show was going to throw all sorts of obstacles and forced circumstances in their way. I would have preferred it if MX tried harder to tell FY herself instead of expecting WJG to man up. I know she tried at the restaurant but given her character, she should be straight with FY from the beginning. When FY teased her about the fugitive that she and FY indirectly saved by being there,, that would have been a perfect opportunity. I guess we would not have a story then lol Also all our analysis of MX’s motivations and reasons has led me to think that she is not that unlikable 😁
The most valuable player in episode 29 was BFY! I honestly didn't think she would be hard core team Mo Xi when…
Yup FY deserved brownie points for sure. Totally pointed out what a coward WJG turned out to be, always promising but never delivering. MX told CWD that she would be faithful by his side if he brings FY back to WJG. So CWD was working on that only to find out that MX was planning to betray him anyway.

That’s the contradictory part for me. She could have told FY after WJG was safely out of the city. FY would never have judged her for saving a fugitive. Yes FY was a little sad when WJG broke the engagement but she herself said that she did not know him well enough to be devastated. Yet another opportunity to fess up. When WJG came back and said that FY could join the nunnery for a couple of years, MX refused and yet threw temper tantrums, insisting that WJG do something because she would never give him up. I do see your points about her giving up her happiness for FY at times. I guess we just have to agree to disagree on whether MX is liable or not 😁

My issue with MX started when she was unnecessarily dishonest with FY way before the marriage thing. Totally agree that she is not malicious and I can understand how she has grown up to be adaptable to survive. I just don’t like how easily she can say she would never let anyone bully FY and yet sneak around with WJG behind her back, or how easily she called CWD her friend and yet made use of him constantly knowing that he liked her.

She’s never been honest with FY about WJG from the beginning and before the whole connection between WJG and FY started. It was WIG who tried to tell FY but kept getting interrupted. She’s really only put FY first after she thought WJG was dead. With CWD, it was not only to save FY but also to save herself. Ultimately I don’t think she’s that selfless whereas I can claim that FY has always been selfless.

You’re right, she has helped them but she was unnecessarily deceitful towards FY for her personal gain. When FY was happily anticipating being the Wan family’s daughter in law, she was meeting with WJG secretly telling him that he was the only thing that she would not give up to FY. When she rescued WJG, she told him that she would not hold him obligated to marrying her and yet, she was the one constantly in his face telling him that he owed her and he had to marry and be responsible for her. As for CWD, we don’t need to go into how she’s constantly stringing him along with the intention of betraying him. I know a lot of her behavior could be explained by her need to survive given her upbringing and that she was still young. I’m ok with her doing what she needs to do but her ability to change positions upon whim rub me the wrong way.

She lied to FY from the beginning about WJG, before they even found about FY’s engagement to him and the whole mess started. For someone who was so special to her and treated her so sincerely, MX has not behaved the same way towards FY. I guess for the last episode, it would be irrational for her to think that WJG chose to save FY instead of her just because he mistakenly grabbed FY’s hand.. She might be jealous because FY ended up being the one who got rescued and MX saying that WGY was meant to be with FY anyway was really her way of consoling herself. MX has grown up to be resilient and adaptable. That’s good but overall I suppose I prefer my FL to be more honorable which maybe is too much to ask of a 17 year old.

With CWD, true she does not have to be loyal to him but she is all so wishy washy with him. She helped him and then harmed him. She’s a pliable person and I guess I prefer her to have stronger values. FY may be frail but she has a strong moral compass. I can understand why and how MX has grown up to learn to adapt to the circumstances but it doesn’t mean that I have to like her.

I guess it depends on the definition of betrayal. She lied to FY so much about WJG even when she didn’t need to. She either gave up on WJG or cannot let him go depending on the circumstances. In the latest case, she e didn’t even seem that heartbroken over him since according to her, he was meant to be FY’s anyway. She is not a trustworthy person to me, a very gray character. Usually I enjoy shows with gray protagonists but her inconsistencies especially when it comes to FY made me dislike her.
