It is disgusting and I am glad that the show changed it. It's bad enough seeing him eat dirt...I was really bothered during the scene when Chen Lian made Uncle De eat dog poop. That bit where Ouyang barked to express the sorry state that he was in, I thought was a good scene.

That's true! Pan Er and Yin Zhang do have a more complicated relationshipn where Pan Er seems like the mother most times and she feels like she owes Yin Zhang because of her sister. Yin Zhang probably thinks Pan Er should give her everything because of that.

I was actually surprised to see how much Chen Lian was affected by Zhaodi. That boy is in love.... I guess I meant out of character in the sense that she has never really displayed street smarts until now. So like you said - we are finally seeing more growth now!

Yeah, I think there is definitely a blood feud betwen the fathers but I hope ZPE and GQF will display their usual matured and rational thinking, and move past that whole mess of their older generation.
Past dialogues implied that if Qianfan acknowledge his father and the family Xiao, they will get punished for deceiving the emperor. Maybe if they get into the emperor's favor, he will look past it. Perhaps that's why Minister Xiao was busy praising Qianfan in front of the emperor, and using the Empress, which we know he supports, to get the Emperor to give Qianfan important assignments.
You made a good point about the Empress being the start of it all...that would be one loose end that I hope the show ties up nicely!
Other loose ends like Gao Hui - not sure, maybe she will be part of Puyang Xu's take down (I hope so!), and I strongly suspect Sanniang's son will return. It won't be a true happy ending if things fon't come full circle for Sanniang!

I have to admit - that was a bit of a whiplash moment for me. It seemed out of her character. At first, I thought Hao hao will rescue her but turned out that Yin Zhang can take care of herself...I guess maybe these next few episodes will be a turning point in Yin Zhang's character growth!
