I really want to like it but it was way too rushed and had a really weird flow imo... Idk, I'm not gonna drop…
Yes, there were things happening in the first ep that should have been in the second, for better storytelling. I don't know if they wanted to tease the viewers so they'll tune in next week for part two, but it totally ruins the flow and the natural progression. And because of the bad editing, it left us feeling as if scenes were out of sequence.
I really thought they'd drag out the 'hate' phase a lot longer. The change happened so fast that I kept waiting…
That's usually my problem with enemies-to-lovers storylines, and this was no exception. Too fast, with too little in the way of transition or some major event/info that will drastically change one person's opinion of the other. Almost fist-fighting one day, then seriously flirting the next morning with no clues as to how or why. It's just not convincing. A good example of a credible progressive enemies-to-lovers transition is We Best Love: No. 1 For You. They got it right. I can't think of a good BL example of the major event transition rn, but the classic story is of course Pride and Prejudice. It's hard to do this kind of storyline in a short format, but it could still have been done better than this. The first episode should have been about them starting to warm to each other, and then the caring-when-sick and getting flustered and secretly attracted scenes should appear in the second half, not the first. And the bad editing didn't help. Also, Ake just seems like a bad egg and we still have no reason to like him, so the fact that Tue suddenly does is kind of a head-scratcher.
wait there is episode 2 ? Here it only says 1 episode
It's one long 2-hour special split into four half-hour parts. So when some people say "episode 1" they really mean "part 1", but on this site "one episode" means the entire thing.
Damnn, he lost, haha Don't get me wrong, I'm all in for BL, but I was kind of rooting for Mob. I wouldn't mind…
Yes, this was a drama where I strangely rooted for him to EVADE the romance! Maybe because I really wanted him to be ace. And also it was a bit weird because he was obviously totally against it in his internal monologue, but what he said and did was the opposite, so it came across as if he was under a spell or something.
The pacing was a mess. They went from hating each other to liking each other in the blink of an eye lol I didn't…
True, I often feel that way with enemies-to-lovers stories (the transition from one to the other is seldom convincing), but here the pacing was definitely off too. The script wasn't bad per se, but there were some odd time jumps and a lack of continuity.
I've submitted the character names, but I don't think they accept a synopsis that doesn't come from an official source. Which is a shame, because the current synopsis is almost impossible to understand.
??? You like that the bullies have a reason for beating up people?? OK. I'm missing something. There's actually…
I think Near *did* hear what they were saying, and got very afraid, because he knows that if they think he did, they are going to do much worse to him than they have before. So yes, he was trying to pretend he didn't hear them, but the thing is that they wouldn't have stopped even if he had said he didn't -- they wouldn't believe him. They would beat him up pre-emptively, because they are bullies and don't like him to begin with. (It's possible that he didn't hear what they were saying, because it would be pretty stupid of him to walk onto the scene if he did, he should have waited or made a noise farther away to make them shut up. But that could be due to him not realizing in time, or being in a hurry for his part-time job, or just lazy writing.)
I and close family members of mine have been bullied in school, and if you are an insecure, physically weaker, easily frightened introvert, with nobody likely to intervene on your behalf, and especially when you're ganged up on, it's not at all unusual to be unable to talk (or fight) back when you're targeted. Because even if you do, you run the risk of making it worse. Being terrified does that to people. It's also the reason why a lot of r*pe and assault victims get paralysed and unable to defend themselves (which of course is later used against them, "but why didn't she/he say no or fight back, surely the aggressor would have politely backed off immediately" -- uh, no, they wouldn't have...)
Just finished the first episode. I was hoping for this to be good and I'm not disappointed!! The characters are…
They're getting better -- I can recall decent female characters in some recent good-quality BL dramas (1000 Stars, Cherry Magic, ITSAY, Lovely Writer...) -- if they are present at all. The occasional total absence of female characters (beyond background noise) is also a bit weird, but I'd take no females over crazy/stupid/evil females any day. I suppose the crazy fujoshis/Y-girls are supposed to represent the audience, but I must say I don't feel particularly represented.
As for the bullying, the stilted conversation between the school officials about the bullying was pretty badly acted and heavy-handed and felt like an insertion purely to avoid being seen as "promoting" bullying behaviour from the series producers...
Oh, so they released part 1 on Saturday and parts 2-4 yesterday or today? That's an unusual way to do it... And then they will release the full 2-hr version in June?
Ah, yes, I see them now! There was only one episode there when I watched it on Saturday, and the WeTV site says "one episode every Monday", so I assumed that meant one episode/part per week. Maybe there was something wrong with the site when I watched it -- using a VPN can sometimes cause sites to not load properly.
After watching the first episode I think I kinda get the synopsis now... well for the most part at least.
Yes, I kind of get it too. I think the gist of it is something like:
"Thong Fah/Sky is a boy who is devastated after recently losing his father. The person who has helped him through it is his childhood friend Paper. They have always been there for each other, but suddenly their relationship begins to develop into something more -- until one day, when it breaks them apart.
Jeno gets assaulted by his ex-boyfriend, which makes him lose his faith in love -- until he meets Chris. Chris tries to get Jeno to open his heart once again.
Meanwhile, tensions are rising in their high school until an incident occurs.
When you have lost the thing you wanted most, will there be a second chance?"
This is of course pure guesswork, cobbled together after watching the first episode and trying to puzzle out what the machine translations say. I guess we'll see if I got any of it right... LOL
