Li Ni is the grandson of the emperor, who is now dead cause that general who is playing golf rebeled and almost…
Makes sense, real history prevails over fiction.
The situations in the mentioned novels are as follows:
1. Eight Treasures Trousseau The Emperor only has one son, borne by the Empress. He is named the Crown Prince. Inner palace schemes from the Empress ensured that the Emperor did not have another heir. The Crown Prince has no talent and is often overshadowed by his cousins (there are two, one of them is the ML of the novel), who are junwangs (Princes of the second rank. The Emperor's brother's sons would get these titles). He is also lustful and drinks a lot. His Crown Princess also schemed against him, making sure he would not have any heir, including with her as well. Not sure of her real intentions in doing so. But she gets pregnant, because the Emperor one day raped her when both were drunk. Since the Empress couldn't control her son's inner palace, the Crown Princess ended up getting pregnant with the Emperor's seed. The Crown Prince dies, schemed by one of his cousins (not ML, the other cousin). The Crown Princess is about to give birth to the "Crown Prince's heir", but the "Crown Prince's heir" will be in an awkward position once he is born. So the Emperor decided to write an edict to name the "Crown Prince's heir" as the heir to the throne. However, as soon as the "Crown Prince's heir" was born, thunders stuck in some important places. Some other places caught fires and all (schemes, of course, but well concealed). This made the Emperor feel that the heavens were against him for committing such great sin by getting his daughter-in-law pregnant with his own seed. So he decided to not name the "Crown Prince's heir" as the heir to the throne for now. Maybe in the future, but that future was never to come.
2. Jin Wang Dotes on His Concubine
This is simple. The Crown Prince already has a son who is in his teens. The Crown Prince, again, is very untalented. But his son is very clever and often makes up for his father's incompetence. The Emperor even often thought of passing the throne directly to this grandson of his. But the Crown Prince gets schemed on and loses his title as the crown prince. This puts the Crown Prince's heir in an awkward position again. I only read this novel up until this point... so not sure how it all turned out. But I do know that ML, Jin Wang (or Prince Jin, if you may), who is one of the Crown Prince's younger brothers, succeeds to the throne in the end.
I just rewatched episode 1 and noticed General Pei saying that the Crown Prince's son is only the eldest son. In that case, he was not even named the heir? And they talk about Consort Xiao, not the Crown Princess. So the surviving son of the Crown Prince is not even the legitimate son born to the Crown Princess? In that case, won't that put him in an even awkward position?
Well, anyway, we know from the trailer that Li Ni's father will take over the throne and will name Li Ni as his successor.
For those who want to watch it on YouTube like me. Wonderland of love is on you tube for those who want to watch…
I just saw. It's on YoYo channel. Subs are good, too.
Meanwhile, Viki still hasn't uploaded a single episode. They are uploading first two episodes tomorrow. So much for paying for the Viki pass subscription just to watch WOL, but they are this slow in uploading.

I think, from all the novels I read that are set in ancient China, if a crown prince dies before he is named emperor, then his heir cannot be considered an heir to the throne because he is not even considered an Imperial Prince, just an heir to the Crown Prince. Unless the previous Emperor wrote an edict naming the Crown Prince's heir to succeed the throne after him, the Crown Prince's heir's position would be considered super awkward. For this case, I will refer you to two novels:
1. Eight Treasures Trousseau. 2. Jin Wang Dotes on His Concubine.
If you ask me, Prince Liang has more legitimacy to the throne than the Crown Prince's heir, because he is, at least, an Imperial Prince, the late Emperor's son last living son.
Li Ni is the grandson of the emperor, who is now dead cause that general who is playing golf rebeled and almost…
Li Ni is an Imperial Grandson = Emperor's Grandson. Since the Emperor is dead, even the Crown Prince is dead, the only Imperial Prince alive is Li Ni's father. The Crown Prince's heir is, however, still alive. So, when General Pei wanted Li Ni to assume the role of the Crown Prince, with his father as the Emperor, Li Ni refuses. The Crown Prince's heir is the Imperial Grandson they are all looking for now. The current emperor is the General Sun who rebelled.

Xu Kai didn't have hot chemistry with FL in Ancient Love Poetry. It was also one of his best dramas, especially in terms of acting. There's also Lingjian Mountain...

Finally found someone who also does not connect with Ren Jialun, like me. I really want to watch his dramas, but something about him just turns me off.
I've posted this comment below for someone who was asking the same question. I'm posting here again:
I read that since Xu Kai was born and raised in Shenzhen, he is very fluent in Cantonese. He is, however, not very fluent in Standard Chinese, but he is getting there as he is dubbing for his dramas in modern setting. It is understandable for Xu Kai to not dub for his historical setting dramas, since most Chinese actors and actresses, who are fluent in Standard Chinese, also find it hard to dub for their own historical setting dramas, much less Xu Kai, who is not that fluent.
Xu Kai did his own dubbing for Yang Hua in She and Her Perfect Husband. If you compare, Li Ni's voice does not match with Yang Hua's. It does, however, match with Lu Sicheng from Falling Into Your Smile. Xu Kai did not dub for Lu Sicheng.
I really do love political schemes.

I'm sure this drama deserves more.
The Crown Prince's heir is the Imperial Grandson they are all looking for now.
The current emperor is the General Sun who rebelled.
Also, please remove that 1-star rating for whatever drama if it didn't deserve that lol.
People recognize quality, and naturally, the ratings will change.
