Most bad ratings of FIYS debuted with comments regarding the "plagiarism".
I'm sure people would rate it bad for other reasons, but the hate the drama received was mainly because of that issue. I was watching that drama live when it aired, so I was made aware of it.
I personally don't think FIYS is the best drama ever, but I do think it is a decent drama that entertained me.

I don't know how golden the Douban rating system can be when it considers fat shaming the ML and beauty shaming the FL (they called her 'not beautiful enough for Xianxias') of Ancient Love Poetry as valid reasons for 1 star ratings. It actually debuted with 2.9 rating (iirc) and the ratings got better afterwards. The drama is still highly underrated today if you ask me.

Falling Into Your Smile got bad-rated not because of the quality of the drama nor was it the gaming aspects, but because the author who wrote the source material wrote it based on a real life story of an e-sports couple. This pissed off the Chinese audience and they downrated it.

I've seen this trend from a certain actress' fandom (only crazy fans, mind you).

They usually downrate a certain actor's drama with troves of fake accounts on MDL, even if their favourite actress' drama is not airing. I guess this drama came into their hate radar now because that actress' drama is also currently airing, and has better rating even though this drama is way better than the other. They probably felt threatened by this drama.

I love the actress, so I won't blame her. But her crazy fans (only crazy fans, normal fans are decent) are another thing. I think they are in a serious need for therapy.

They will probably expand on what happened between ZM and CP.

I actually prefer to read spoilers. Unlike most people, spoilers actually make me more excited for the drama. 😅

Finally a Xianxia with a super happy ending?
If yes, it should start a revolution lol. No more last minute happy endings for Xianxias.

TLI and MM are only connected to ALP in the source material.
They are made as standalone series, so you can watch them without having to watch ALP.

MM's ML and FL characters are basically SML and SFL in ALP. MM's ML is a SML in the literal sense that he was in love with ALP's FL.
On the other hand, MM's FL was in love with MM's ML in ALP, but she dies pretty early.

So the one who finished off all immortals in the Divine Realm was our FL as Chaos Pearl?

Good to see some love for ALP here. It's an underrated gem and deserves at least an 8.8 rating, especially considering some of the Xianxia dramas that can barely hold a candle to it getting 8.6-8.7 ratings.

A pity, lots of haters spam rated it down.

Like really, why should only MLs be cold and direct in rejecting SFLs' advances while FLs always choose to maintain a certain kind of ambiguity with SMLs? It really pisses me off.

I think there are a few movies/dramas that surpass the original novel version. The Prestige comes to mind.

There are a few c-dramas that actually were a bit better than the original novels. Best example would be 'Time and Him Are Just Right'. The original novel was simply unreadable. It was adapted well.

There's another adaption, Outlander tv series, which is kind of a mixed bag. Of the 7 seasons released, I felt 3 of them were better than the original novel, while the other 4 seasons successfully managed to piss me off lol. It's a wild ride, nonetheless. One of the very few romance novels adapted as a drama series in the west.

Finally a FL who is so crystal clear in drawing boundaries with SML leaving nothing vague or ambiguous to exist between them. Finally a FL who would stand on ML's side unconditionally and would retaliate against SML if he were to hurt ML.

Wish more C & K drama FLs are like Mu Xuan Ling.

Sorry, not sorry, for the expletives. lol! I've been waiting for a FL like Mu Xuan Ling all this time since I started watching C & K dramas, so I'm a bit excited here.

Ah, that explains his comment: "Why does he (ML) get everything good?" after his meeting with the FL. I thought he only met the FL for the first time and he's already enamored by her?

Thanks for clarifying this, I had to keep the drama on hold because I saw the OP's comment and felt that I could not continue watching this drama knowing that the FL would help SML even though he is causing the downfall of their family. I would have resume watching this drama right away if not for already starting my 3rd re-watch of My Dear Guardian. I'll get back to this once I'm done with the re-watch.

Btw, I think I've seen you in the As Beautiful As You drama comments section when it was airing.

Started watching this, and I'm on ep 11. Although I'm loving it, the constant loud, and unrelated, background music when people are just speaking normally is very very distracting. And this happens a lot.
