So, basically only the main couple get the happy ending in the novel.

For Xianxias, I usually wait for the drama to finish airing, confirm it is a HE, and then proceed to binge-watch. Will be doing the same for this one too.

I've liked Vin Zhang in both costumes and modern dramas. Bai Jingting, however, is the other way around for me. I couldn't get into any of his modern dramas because of his looks, but I liked him a lot in the two costume dramas (Destined & New Life Begins) I've watched. I guess it comes down to "each to their own".

A lot of people were involved, sure, hence announcing a decree that the Empress and Qing Wang would pray for the Emperor Emeritus' health after he abdicates, and the Empress would eventually follow the Emperor upon his death. The people involved in the conspiracy are conspiring against the Empress and Qing Wang, and by this move, he is taking them out of the picture. Qing Wang would still be alive, but by then, the new Emperor would already establish himself strongly. And with Duke Ding still alive, Qing Wang would not dare to attempt at rebellion.

Have you watched ep 33? The Emperor knows the Empress was plotting against him before Duke Ding was being escorted back to the capital. He knows they are scheming for power and bringing back Duke Ding to safeguard him was his countermeasure.

I think the solution I offered is way more easier to apply. There's nothing easy about the Emperor's long scheme that came with way too many risks, uncertainties, causalities.

I think, the fact that he called back Duke Ding as a preventive measure means that he knows the scheming is running deep. His scheme, in response to the Empress' schemes, comes with way too many risks. Meanwhile, the solution I offered comes with least number of risks, and also provide with a swift resolution.

I get what you are saying, but given the context, the Emperor definitely wanted the Crown Prince to succeed, especially given that he already discovered the fact that the Empress is poisoning him and is scheming for power... all this before he called for Duke Ding to go back to the capital.

For those wondering why Ji Yong sometimes addresses Song Mo as 'Mantis Song', there's a Chinese proverb that goes like this: "Mantis stalks Cicada unaware of the Oriole behind."

Basically, he is implying that while SM is targeting people to bring justice to his uncle, he is unaware that more powerful people are painting a target on his back.

Ep 32, I feel like there is huge plothole that needs to be addressed. All this scheming by the Emperor and everyone else, there's one simple solution: The Emperor could have abdicated and crown the Crown Prince as the Emperor. He could also decree that he is going to some mountain to recuperate, and have the Empress and Qing Wang pray for his health in the Imperial Moesuleum with loyal Imperial Guard strictly guarding them. And that once the Emperor dies, the Empress will follow him.

All this, he could have done while keeping his best friend, Duke Ding, alive and well. Duke Ding would also definitely be loyal to the new Emperor. A lot of lives would be spared and, of course, the Imperial Family will keep their dignity. 😑

Yes, I'm not ep 32, and I get it. But it's still not much, considering the fact that the Dou family does not have any heirs, and they will fall once his younger brother is also dead.

Both are very good, but I was pissed off by The Double's pathetic ending, which was only saved by the last minute shot extra episode (they only filmed it 1 week before the last episode was supposed to air after seeing the exceptional response the drama was getting; they probably figured the viewers would be royally pissed at the ending). Meanwhile, I'm hearing very positive feedback on Blossom's ending.

Finally catching up on the drama:

On ep 27, Dou Shishou and Grand Princess conversation; I don't understand Dou Shishou's ambition... I mean I get wanting to elevate your Dou family, but for how long? The Dou family has no heirs, and the two brothers (FL's father and DSS) are already old. Once they are gone, there's no Dou family. It's already fallen before it can stand on top. I really don't get how elevating his already falling family will justify his actions for himself.

Well, when they sign him up, they put in considerable amount of money to train him, then put in a lot of resources to plan for him and bring him up to where he is now. So, obviously, they are going to milk him and recover what they deem fit from him before his contract is up for renewal. Then they can re-negotiate the terms of the contract.
Also, you need understand that this contract of 80-20 deal was signed by Li Yunrui himself. I don't think they are taking advantage of him if he agreed to the terms of the contract and signed on the dotted lines with sound mind.
