It’s a comment I see so often and (perhaps not in all cases but in many) I can only put it down to a form of…
This is an interesting perspective! I have heard this being said in patriarchal households - you are a woman and you should only be seen and not heard (which is something I have been told personally). I will be sure to discuss this topic with friends who are also drama lovers like me when I meet them next. So thank you for that 🙂
To me personally, a high pitched voice or someone speaking in an excited or enthusiastic or loud tone (male or female) is difficult to tolerate simply because my hearing is pretty sensitive and it triggers me sometimes, and I believe that this also might be what people are trying to say but end up with the generalization that a voice is “annoying “.
Not sure why some not happy this … me.. love it and looking forward….I had wish for fast forward… wanted…
I concur! I am enjoying this drama and Allen Ren's character quite a bit! He's quite the dashing hero! And it's such a light hearted drama after a series of super heavy ones in while. I also like that it's neither too historical nor modern but a mix of both which is helping me ease out of all the historical costume dramas I've been bingeing on into modern ones without the massive time jump and accompanying whiplash hahahaha :)
I was thinking the same especially cos I just finished The Blue Whisper and Forever and Ever and just started…
You have a good point there! I never would have thought of how he needed to have a strong voice to command his army! I wonder how I'll feel once they show his back-story about his life as a general as I have just gotten used to it now in his republican avatar.

Heyyy!!!!! I thought of you as I was watching Forever and Ever :)) Was thinking of messaging you once I watched One and Only, which I have been putting aside for a while now cos I know I'll need the space to deal with the feels :( But I am glad I watched Forever and Ever first - I think it will help with when I watch One and Only in the sense that they are completely separate from each other and not a continuation/reincarnation per se :) Btw, I cried my eyes out at Mei Xing/Wenxing's scenes :((((
You know, once I crossed the first episode and got into the current era where is he out of the General's attire and into the Republican setting, his voice has grown on me. Actually, I wasn't too comfortable with his voice in Forever and Ever as it seemed too flat compared to his expressions. I don't know how to explain it but his inflections just fell off at the end while his gaze said so much. But here, I see a difference as it's a lot less monotone I feel. He suits these sorts of powerful characters cos his gaze and stance are quite intense and I have grown to like the contrast with that and his soft voice. And I am enjoying the dynamics with the FL lol! She's hilarious and comic timing is great. And he with his serious, straight face is funny!
I just looked up the VA for Zhou Sheng Chen's voice in One and Only and I love him! I can recognize him anywhere as I love his voice for Lan Wangji :)))
Enjoying this drama so far. But Ren Jia Lun's voice really puts me off. His small and mono tone-ish voice makes…
I was thinking the same especially cos I just finished The Blue Whisper and Forever and Ever and just started this. BIG difference in the way his voice affects his characterization, unfortunately.
Then, I try to convince myself that there might be generals irl who are monotone and deadpan lol.
Same. At one point he said to his father Asura Clan was destroyed because of his obsession but then everyone treats…
I actually gathered that it might be about personal taste and not that you didn’t get the plot a split second after I posted my comment 🙈🙈 I tend to run my mouth anytime YY is mentioned so I apologize for making you read all that hahahha 😅🙈😂
But, it is interesting what you said about wanting YY to be vengeful and less holy. DFQC from LBFaD comes to mind (and nope, this is not a promotion- just an observation of difference between characters ☺️). He was someone who held grudges and blamed his father for how he turned out and yet, where it mattered he wasn’t any less ‘good’. However, he was miserable most of his life unlike YY. I wonder if YY fell into the “ignorance is bliss” category - he didn’t ever realise that he needed to hold grudges as, unlike DFQC’s father, the the HE was consistently kind to YY and so YY didn’t ever feel the need to blame or seek vengeance and even followed the HE’s directive of punishing immortals that fall in love etc. It’s an intriguing thought on how being raised differently can influence how you think even though both scenarios are abusive in similar ways.
Lovely comment @JollyGolly.😊I have to say that this comment section has added so much value to this drama for…
I prefer to say "sensualizing" lol! He's a piece of art and such a pleasure to the eyes! I know we see a lot of beautiful and well-crafted bodies in the creative industry (all genders inclusive), but there is just something about him that's very raw and earthy which could also be thanks to the role he's playing. Not sure if I would've felt this way if he was a buttoned up college kid who's all soft and tender for his girl lol. And, it's honestly a breath of fresh air :)
PS: I am annoyed that I can't use smilies on the laptop! 'lol' just doesn't cut it when I want to insert a smilie face with actual emotions!

“Old Man” 🤣🤣
The Asura bloodline was seen as a curse because of what it stood for ie deceit and cruelty. Xuan Ye gained his powers by feeding on the power of immortals and other beings which goes against what the heavenly realm stands for which is protecting the realms and all those that exist within. He then tricks the Primordial Lord to gain the Jade artifact just for the purpose of extending his lifespan. And I believe this is what made the Heavenly Emperor oh so biased against the Asuras also considering that Ran Qing was his sister. So, the conditioning of Ying Yuan into thinking his birth was a sin was cruel yes, but understandable. And one of the reasons why I love Ying Yuan so much IS the fact that he found his truth irrespective of what he was brought up to believe and did not blame the HE emperor or his parents and/or turn into someone like HQ, who blamed the world for his perceived misfortune and turned into a bitter and vengeful person. YY first “broke” the rule of not falling in love which was created by his mother and then bravely faced his demons in the form of (fighting) his father and broke free from from all his shackles. It’s not easy breaking free from childhood conditioning let alone after 10000+ years!!!
You are perfectly justified in your anger though 🥰
So you're telling me YY was born from a powerful Asura and Heavenly Official and you didn't let him use the Asura…
I am curious - are you speaking from the drama’s perspective or as a viewer?
I only ask because I completely get it from the drama’s perspective. And as a viewer, I’d love to see another drama with YY accessing his Asura powers in addition to his deity ones and generally being a kick-ass immortal 😀😎
