I’d love to think that he learns how to control his Asura powers and, I so wish the HE had thought to teach him how to do so earlier. I mean, imagine how that would have turned out for everyone and most especially him!
Knowing Ying Yuan, I think he’d want to learn how to control his powers as a way to never lose control again more than not wanting to be able to access them. You are so right about the timing - he had too much happening which contributed to his momentary lose of control.
It's not that he becomes 'evil' exactly but that he has a lot of power that he's gained through his father's lineage from all the dark arts that Xuan Ye had practiced. And since this is in contrast to the powers that his godly side has, it takes over mainly because he has no practice keeping them under control. He was never taught how to manage these powers, only constantly told never to let them out.
For eg, the spells that Xuan Ye used absorbed energy from others so the powers associated with it are darker than the powers deities gain through cultivation etc.
You know, it just struck me that Ying Yuan's fight with Xuan Ye is literally about YY's fight with his demon. It was the one thing that YY was afraid of all his life - his parentage and what if he lost control of the Asura part of him.

Ditto. Tbh, I don't even think about the cgi - like it just doesn't register when I am immersed in the scene because whatever is happening is so interesting.
It was the same when I saw The Untamed - another one where I saw so many comments about the cgi and it was a complete non-issue as far as I was/am concerned. It's another drama that has had such an effect on me. I am not a critic and watch dramas for the story and the characters :)

Honestly!!!!! I was completely floored by Xuan Ye's entrance! The way he just stamps his sword on the ground, wraps his hands around the hilt, raises his head and subtly raises his eyebrow! Wah!!! And even if he didn't look different with his white hair, it was so clear that he is different from Ying Yuan with his attitude and demeanor

I think it is for the very reason that you pointed out about the defiance of logic with the 'no love rule' that I found the heaven realm to be so interesting :) The rule was made precisely because ONE (albeit powerful) person fell to its clutches so to speak and, it was kept standing because she happened to be related to the heavenly emperor, which imho, made him too shortsighted to see the ludicrosity in it all. Broadly speaking, it had nothing to do with the safety of the realms or anything that noble. It IS absurd and ridiculous when you think about it but oh so true to real life! People make up rules that defy logic many a times just because they were personally affected by something and then make themselves believe that they are doing it for the greater good. Such is human nature :) And as always, just because a rule has been made, does not mean it must be followed. Immortals are human too despite how they came to be and that is what is shown here with their pettiness and cattiness and imperfections and blatant disregard for rules.
Ying Deng took the cake when it came to characters with feelings of self-entitlement and narcissism! I am not surprised you were annoyed. Again, goes to show that the heaven realm has it's share of office politics :))

I love his palace (and GouDan abode) and found it such a refreshing change from the usual golds and whites! And, you are right about it fitting his character - I found it interesting that Yu Mo called it extravagant or some such when he first sneaked in as that is not what comes to mind exactly :)
- Ying Yuan's palace looks so damn pretty! And when the camera pans out every time he's playing chess, the imagery is so beautiful. The peace and calm it exudes....
- I think HQ's actor is one good looking guy and has so much of screen presence. I loved him as Star Mosha in L&R and he's great here too. I saw some fanfics about Star Mosha and Si Feng and that was quite ...enlightening.
- OH I need fanfic for Ying Yuan and Yan Dan!!!!!! :(((((((
