Yes! I can totally get why she wanted to be a writer. Her imagination and brilliant mind was out of this world.

I also believe that HQ didn't want to kill YY initially BUT Ying Deng was a wild card. I don't see how HQ could have used her for his needs because she was too focussed on YY - while HQ's aim was bigger than that. Some of HQ's desire to oust the HE began with HIS obsession and envy of YY right? The fact that HE accepted YY despite him being an Asura descendent and also giving him the Sovereign Lord title etc. So, to me, it felt like HQ didn't want to bother himself with Ying Deng. I wouldn't be surprised if HQ, in his twisted way, wanted YY to be with Ying Deng as well considering how he himself got together with someone who was equally crafty and obsessive.

Maybe cos he realized that she was too obsessed with YY to be of any use to him?

HQ was actually thinking of 'recruiting' YD when he found out that she was brilliant eh! Like how anyone significant in the heaven realm and was involved in the demon-god scuffle seemed to be a member of HQ's party - Sixuan, TZQ, the immortal attendants. What a schemer!

Absolutely! Especially cos I don't understand what is being said I automatically focused on the subtitles a lot during my first watch and realized I've missed soo many of these subtle scenes that give so much to the drama :)

So, YD actually placed bets on her performance at the divine exams and then used the artifacts she won to bribe the curator into using the hall to prepare and practice for the play she wrote! My god she's a brilliant strategist hahahaha!

In Ep 2 as YD is complaining about YY to Zhixi and Lu Ming, we can see the the exact moment Lu Ming catches good feelings for YY :) No wonder he was supportive of his best friend's relationship and was the first to even suggest that she use the power of seduction to win YY over!

Oh yes, that's true! That would definitely have also been an impetus for him to decide that building the barrier with his primordial spirit was the best choice at that given moment..

The way I understood it is that Asuras are not innately evil but Xuan Ye practiced dark arts (the Eternal Darkness that absorbs the cultivated power of others and the the Universal Enchantment which absorbs the spiritual powers, etc) to keep growing his powers and was aiming to get the Purple Jade artifact from RanQing to use it to absorb the life essence (as opposed to spiritual) of others which would extend his life-span as Asuras could not attain immortality through cultivation (unlike spirits or other beings). Since Ying Yuan was a direct blood relation of Xuan Ye, these powers Xuan Ye got through his practice got transferred to him. The Heavenly Emperor had transferred a sliver of his primordial spirit to Ying Yuan to keep these Asura powers in check as being a baby, he wouldn't know how not to unconsciously summon them etc. And growing up, he never cultivated in a way to suppress or actively control his Asura powers and practice only divinity - which is probably why when the high priest used his divine power and cultivation to invoke the part of his primordial spirit that suppressed these powers, Ying Yuan went haywire. Especially cos he was already weak from having lost his own immortal spirit and the sword wraith had earlier made Ying Yuan unwittingly do the spell to activate the power of Eternal Darkness when he was mortal.

I'd like to think that if he hadn't been impulsive and decided he was a threat to everyone and did what he always did (ie: selflessly sacrifice himself and his needs for the sake of keeping everyone else safe), he would have found a way to control these powers and remain who he was all along. And Yan Dan would have used her amazing brain and figured out how to build that barrier without having to use Ying Yuan's primordial spirit. Ying Yuan's moral barometer was so on point and he had a clear understanding of what was good and what wasn't as seen from his acceptance of spirits etc but I think the fact that he had hurt Yan Dan of all people while he was momentarily out of control triggered him. :)

Another one! This was said by the high priest of the Asuras before he died. I felt he was referring to HQ too for believing that his version of the truth is reality. HQ had a chance to redeem himself and become a beloved god as he had a good friend in YY and so many people who thought he was benevolent and kind.

Youku really played well when they made people buy what they claimed to be the final episodes and then drop the bomb that this isn't the end lol. I am curious to know if this strategy worked well for them though
