So I can't comment here. I got told off because I was posting spoilers about the synopsis. I am still pretty peeved over it. People pr trolls have been here and now that Bai is here; whatever i posted can't be considered spoilers.
This is my opinion only, it's ok if you're against me, The Double+ Love Like a Galaxy+ Scarlet Heart of Korea…
It does not.
The Double had revenge and a much more vindictive female lead. And a more powerful Duke. He also used the FL for absolutely ages.
LLTG had a strong supoort and strong family backing. Plusa deranged ML.
Scarlet is completely different.
This drama doesn't even have any revengeful FL. She is just trying to survive. The male lead here is very emotionally open to the FL. The others had Mzl where you had to pry their emotions out of them.
Fine fine. The episode just aired. I thought she died since the show is all about killing.
I was just told off a month ago for even talking about the written synopsis and I was told off for telling people that it was spoilers. I mean its the synopsis for crying out loud.
So everyone's interpretation of what is acceptable is individual.
I just started this drama. The director is so good. The actors are so good.
Then how come its being filmed in an old fashioned style and the cliched expressions and moves? It would be like a child's play for the experienced cast.
Is it supposed to be like this? This is a honest question because both the director writer have done dramas I've watched before. Its purposely done and I wonder why.
Lol. If you think of it as a good 7.7 or 7.8 drama. And that its ending in 34 episodes then it gets better. Thats…
Ah. Its sedate. I think the chemistry in The Double was more intense. However since I'm not watching it for the romance it doesn't bother me. I still like the drama but the FL's plastic surgery is distracting me.
Ah well. My weekend is almost over so no dramas on the weekday. I go back to my ebooks. I think you'll drop it. It really doesn't upset me as not everyone has the same taste. I don't have anything to watch at present. There are 2 dramas which I am procrastinating to watch. The Princess Royal and Under the Queen's umbrella. Have you watched them?

Before anyone gets huffy. The pacing is good. The storytelling flows. The acting is good but 8.8 is perfection and I am not rating it yet. 2 of my favourite characters have left the scene. Then a reappearance of someone from ep 1 is expanded. And there is no 3rd or 4th couple yet.
on episode 8 and it still feels overrated 🤦♂️ maybe it will get better so I'll keep watching..
Lol. If you think of it as a good 7.7 or 7.8 drama. And that its ending in 34 episodes then it gets better. Thats because you're 1/3 done.
Go skip to some Kdrama. Or Culinary War for a break. Then you only have to watch ep 9-16. Then stop. Then wait till ep 24 airs then watch.
4 lots of 8 episodes binge. Gives you time to do other things. I am over at Love Your Enemy then something Lady Ok. I will come back when ep 24 airs. I have a busy week comimg up. That's why I like that its only 34 episodes.
I’m enjoying this a lot & it’s in my top 10 all time c-drama list. If it can stick the landing then it might…
Its the execution that makes the difference. I read some books several times. The stories are the same but the writer has a talent. The director made the whole project gel. I do like the costumes and lighting as well.
I just binged it about a day or so ago.The plot itself is not new but when it has great directing, costume and…
Argh. Now you're stressing me out. Just fyi I am not a fan of the main actors. I stayed purely because of the director and the acting. Their acting is good. But overall its the vibe I like and I also don't like historical. In fact I won't watch them because they keep killing characters.
Look. I stand and by my comment about ep 1. If you don't like the vibe by ep 1 then I think you can go to another modern drama. Historical drama-wise its a strong ep 1.
I have started and dropped about 5 dramas this Dec by the way based on their episode 1.
i’d like to hear the opinions of people who don’t like this that much before i start it so please reply if…
If you start it by looking for the bad then I'd say it would dectract. That is because it then becomes an ongoing irritant. I didn't like my recently completed dramas because of various idiotic director's preference. One was the over 20 hair ornaments, another because one of the main secondary couple's looks. I clarify that by saying that it was the shoulders. All the other males were tall, broad shoulders strapping fighters and the director must have purposely chosen an old looking, narrow shouldered actor and styled him older. The sctor himself looks fine in modern clothing.
Bad? I tell you what's bad. This drama screams that you're in for a ride? Right? Then they fleshed out the secondary characters. They casted really good actors. No wooden face acting here. I am on literal tetherhooks who they are going to kill off. Honest fear. I really like the supporting characters.
Its got a very strong first episode. One of the most memorable I've seen for a long time. Watch that. If the vibe, cinematography, acting and costumes doesn't grab you then move on to another drama.
Your complaint might not be my complaint. You're too vague. Unless you're a glass half empty person for your drama's expectations.
is this overrated or something 8.8 is unbelievable 😳 i dont think its that good 😛 should i try? 🤔
I just binged it about a day or so ago.
The plot itself is not new but when it has great directing, costume and good acting? Great cinematography; way better than the last several ones I've seen. Man they went on a great casting spree and the secondary characters have enough personalities.
Entertainment and engagement wise its been one of the best ones this year. Note that I didn't say the best but I will have to say the directing and execution of the plot lines? Excellent; truly excellent. I don't think I've wasted my time. If that is any help.
I am usually super critical and nitpicking. However it was engrossing and I wanted to catch up. I don't even have time to binge watching anything else.
And oh yeah the fight scenes choreographer is not bad. Its quite good.
This director done a lot of mini series, and it’s quite good. This is his first full length drama, and the quality…
I went back to his credits and Familiar Stranger stood put. I don't watch web dramas much but this popped up on my newsfeed. The story was nonsense but i finished it because the flow was so good. Another story which I didn't finish was Butterflied Lovers.
Both stood out because of the way it was presented. Some directors are just draggy aren't they? Those 2 dramas were beautiful on screen although the plots themselves were terrible.
I think the director makes the story more beautiful. I sometimes watch the last 2 episodes of a drama and I can see the style or pacing. The pacing here is brisk. I don't even normally like this actor. His features are too sharp and he is more slim vs having an atheltic physique. His voice is also dubbed.
The dramas props and costumes are lovely though. Looks to be good quality anf in good taste. No OTT army uniforms.
This drama is just lovely to watch. I am not saying the plot is terribly orginal but the storytelling here is excellent. The actors can act so I can just focus on my entertainment.
I mean there are scenes that traumatise me ie the Lu Zheng one. That was terrible.
Then we had the helptul soldiers and farmers scenes. I chuckled a lot when the very fast moving farmers came. Man that has been one of the funniest " helpful sidekicks " scenes I've seen in a while.
Wow. I just finished ep 1. I had no information and literally just checked it out because I heard the directing and writing is good.
Wow. Is this a Cdrama? Really? Is this a high budget drama? I didn't think the male lead was so popular. Is it the leading actress?
I think I wasn't expecting it to be so well done. Even the transformation part is so classy.
The vibe has high drama, tragedy and tears all over episode 1 but am totally sucked in. No wonder it had good feedback. I cannot recall any recent impactful ep 1.

I wouldn't be starting this drama. Thanks. Honestly.

And now the suffering for previews starts. I am extremely hapoy its only 34 episodes.
No matter how much I like the lead I really REALLY Wu Shan. I hope he gets more roles.
The Duke of Jing here and the trusty aide Shuge in Brocade Oddsey is doing my head in. One is trusty worthy and wise then this is pathetic and weak.
Thanks.
