5.5/10The "sacrifice thing" is overused in this drama... lack of ideas. I think this drama should be finished…
Problem is that it's not the sacrificing thing I have a problem with it's the lack of repercussions that makes there sacrifice seems so anticlimactic. The drama didn't use this trope effectively, in my opinion. Eternal Love did much better in this department.
Very good, but the romance seems fake, no chemistry between the leads. One minute she pretends to love him for…
I had this struggle too! Everything was too fast paced for me without any proper explanations, so I had a very hard time in believing in their 'love'. Also their kiss scenes are just lip touches. 🤦♀️ Dilraba and Rue Jia Le are unfortunately a miss for me, couldn't feel the heat from their chemistry between these two. Everything from there just kinda made me rather detached when it came to their love. I preferred San Yu and Lin Shu more. Or Lin Hao Qing 😍 If you can get past the lack of foundation for their relationship, I found part 2 much more enjoyable to watch.
Respect! I concur with the issues that you argue make Lin Haoqing and Yunhe so incompatible are directly related…
I love your insights! Reminds me of when I was watching TLB. I understood that drama better because I had read the manhua before hand. With your explanation of their relationship based on the novel, I can now understand more of the scenes in the drama better. The novel based on your explanation sounds like their relationship is more well rounded and darker, which better contrast their struggles to highlight their happiness and love maybe (my biggest complaint with the drama is that when someone dies it seemed to be so easy for them to be revived or at least the costs of sacrificing themselves were too easily overcome - not sure I'm explaining that properly sorry. :( Oh and the lack of proper battle scenes haha) . I definitely need to read this novel now! I think the novel version of Lin Hoaqing sounds even more interesting than the drama version. Please do leave your discussion here above in a full review, I think it would be very helpful to others too. :)
I want to give Allen Ren some love for his portrayal of our “Big Tailed Fish”. 😍❤️ I just finished…
Respect! I concur with the issues that you argue make Lin Haoqing and Yunhe so incompatible are directly related to their shared dark history. I also agree that they are two too similar people that would not suite each other because they are so calculative and manipulative not just towards others, but also towards each other (there relationship is too fraught with lies and deceit). Theirs is an imperfect relationship, irrespective of whether it's sibling or romantic. I understand especially when you point out that to balance out Yunhe's more cunning and calculative nature, she naturally gravitates towards those that are direct and guileless. She can love them without conditions because they come to her with only priceless friendship and love. In return she can trust them to keep her love safe and not use it against her. I understand and love the whole opposites attract but here unfortunately I just found myself plagued by second male lead syndrome. I just did not find Chang Yi as compelling as Lin Haoqing, which I think was further not helped by the lack of proper healthy relationship development between Chang Yi and Yunhe (things do get better towards the end but I just wasn't feeling it). I just don't feel like the two ever got a proper chance to sort out their issues (she lied and used him at the start; he imprisoned her to keep her with him and as 'revenge' for using him). I didn't feel like there was ever a moment where they properly confessed their feelings to each other (or at least I didn't feel like there was any particularly impactful scene as I don't remember seeing one - I could be wrong so feel free to point one out to me and I'd be happy to go back and watch it).
I started watching them both at the same time but ended up finishing WRTW before I came back to finish watching…
Absolutely! If you like the dramas you mention, I don't see why you won't like the Blue Whisperer. They are all Xianxia which is the same genre as TBW. They are all similar, especially Ashes of Love - although there is no pearl that keeps the fl from falling in love, there is a mermaid pearl involved here. ;) Romance is perhaps more prominent in TBW than in WRTW as it is much more fast paced and central to the characterisations of Ji Yunhe and Chang Yi (ie. love and hate are two sides of the same coin), but the plot line doesn't suffer from excessive 'fan service' (this is what I call pure romantic fluff that has no contribution to the plot).
Yes it's on Viki, brilliant. Once I'm finished with WRTW I'm straight into this one. Gotta love Netflix and Viki,…
I started watching them both at the same time but ended up finishing WRTW before I came back to finish watching this drama. I think it's really hard to compare the two as they're from such different genres. The contrast between the two I feel is that Blue Whisper has terrible battle/fight scenes compared to WRTW. I've been lately in the mood for Wuxia so I would say I like WRTW more especially cause it's a slow burner romance. Blue Whisper feels like it depends too much on the main leads chemistry and their ' love' too much instead of developing their relationship (didn't help for me that they seem to be in love within less than 5 episodes). I love the CGI fantasy Xianxia elements in Blue Whisper though. WRTW became too much a palace political drama in the middle to end instead of focusing on the Wuxia or jianghu elements, which made me interested in the drama in the first place. I do love political intrigue and palace dramas, but just felt WRTW could have gone a different route to be more interesting at least for me. Blue Whisper Part 1 was great for world building but plot wise was too slow paced, as it felt like they were laying out things for Part 2 which I enjoyed more than Part 1. Each has good and bad points, hopefully you'll like Blue Whisper too. I did in the end, although it took me awhile to finish watching, unlike WRTW which kept me engaged and eager for nearly every episode.
The second review was 3 days after airing - how did they watch it all?
If I hated something I honestly don't think I'd want to dwell on it to the point that I would make a review, seems such a waste of time and energy to write about hate. There’s enough hate in the world without me adding to it. Kudos to the haters 😂🤦♀️

Lol I rewatched the first scene were she's trying to escape and I feel like the subs are quite good. I mean some small things will always get lost in translation, but overall the quality is excellent.👍 Honestly, I'll always disagree with some translations just cause I understand the mandarin and sometimes find translators forget to add more nuance to their translations. 😅

I tried it back then but it messed up my computer. Also didn't work much at least that's what I felt. Any particular Adblock extension you would recommend?
I can put in a request for a change, but they have turned down some of my previous requests. We see how it goes.
Interesting 🤔 Glad you were able to get ahold of somebody! Lol there are quite a few edits that are needed for this page. Just saw that they called Ning Xi Yu the ‘Disciple of Ning Qing’, 🤦♀️
Good to watch (there are plot holes but if your forgiving it's a good drama), lots of romance (and angst), chemistry…
Yes! FL keeps a lot of secrets from the ML and purposefully breaks his heart to drive him away, so ML becomes vengeful (but still in love with her) and breaks her heart. There are a bunch of other things that come between them like Lin Cang Lan, Lin Hao Qing, Shunde, Bitter Frost Poison, etc. Honestly don't want to give away too much, but you'll understand when you watch it. The ML and FL have more of a big breakup before they patch things up in the end. Not sure what you mean by small breakups but Li She and San Yue do break up for a bit too.
Am I the only one who thinks that Cristy Gao did an excellent job with her portrayals of Shunde and Ning Xi Yu. Was blown away by the juxtaposition of the two characters! Also side note, they should really change her from 'Disciple of Ning Qing' (it's wrong) to Former Wanhua Valley Master or Master of Ning Qing.
I think I've found another trope which I'm unable to digest: student-teacher relationships. Makes me so uncomfortable…
Their student-teacher relationship was twisted from the start. He absolutely doesn't love Shunde in any sense and essentially keeps her around because of her 'face'. Shunde's love for him is just sad. The slightly uncomfortable student-teacher relationship for me was when Lin Hao Qing had to raise Ji Yunhe and essentially became her shifu until she got her memory back.
If you can get past the lack of foundation for their relationship, I found part 2 much more enjoyable to watch.
